I was curious about your statement in another post about not washing greens for 4 years. I was hoping you can enlighten me on this practice. How did you decide not to wash them? I'm just curious to see what I can learn from it. Thanks, Mona

Thanks for the great suggestions, everyone. The mother-in-law is looking into seeing if they can prepare raw food for me, but I'm now willing to not eat and just talk to everyone. Also, my daughter and I decided we're going to enjoy making a raw dinner together. I'm more into eating in than eating out anyway. I decided the time I can spend with her is more precious than the food.

I'm visiting my daughter in the Boston area and her mother-in-law wants the family to go to a chinese restaurant for mother's day. She's made it clear that that's where we're going even though she knows I'm a raw foodist. Well, there won't be anything for me to eat and I'm trying to decide if I should bring my own food or not eat. What do you do in these situations? Any suggestions?

I figured I could gather some and clean them really well by soaking them in water for about 5 minutes then rinsing well. In Panama, I pick culantro which is a wild green I eat and I just wash it off and eat it with no problems. Mostly it's my daughter who is having the problems with dandelions being soiled by dogs. I really appreciate everyones input. What I'm gathering from you, I can pick

I was wondering about dogs. Is there a way to get the dog urine off?

I see a lot of wild dandelions growing in lawns and was wondering if the leaves are edible. Are they similar to what we buy? Has anyone here eaten them?

Hi Earthangel and everyone, I'm having a great time with my grans. They're young--4, 2 years and 1 1/2 months--but fun. We've been playing and reading a lot. It makes me sad to see them eat SAD but they do eat lots of bananas and are trying the fruit I bring. I think eating SAD corrupts the taste buds. If they tried mangos and cantalope before cereal, etc, they might have liked it. They

Noelle, Sharrhan, and Jgunn, I'm going to be visiting my daughter in Malden and a couple of friends in Cambridge from May 1-18. How about getting together? I would love to meet other raw foodists. There aren't any where I live. Mona

Hi Earthangel, I'm ready. I'm thinking about eating today instead of fasting. I have lots of food I gotta eat before I leave. Hate to see food spoil. Sorry you won't be there. I'd love to meet you. Don't know how often I can write, because I'll be super busy with grandchildren. Yeah!! I feel that way now, I wonder if I'll feel the same way after a week, ha ha.:-) all my best, Mon

Noelle, Good luck. I've tried everything suggested above and gained weight in my stomache only. Maybe because you're young, it will be different for you. I still exercise regularly. It makes me feel better. My weight is now stablized but it's lower than I want it to be. Someone said that once you get all or most of the toxins out, you'll start gaining weight. That could be. I'm still wa

Hi everyone, I'm going to Boston next week for about 18 days and hope to meet up with a couple of you there. If you don't know who I am, I keep a diary, so you can check it out. I'm in need of meeting another raw foodist face to face because I'm the only one in town that I know of. Always my best to you, Mona We need to share our problems to find our solutions.

Hi everyone, Well, I went out to a birthday dinner with friends and my husband at an Indian restaurant and ate cooked food. The people who invited us never had Indian food before. We had a lot of fun, great conversation, lots of laughter. I knew I was going to eat it. It was thur night and I knew I would fast fri. The fast went well. I had a headache from the food, got really tired ye

Hi Mia, I had a few minutes so I thought I'd read your diary. Very interesting. It's tough going through transition. I've been in transition for almost 3 years! I'm still addicted to lots of food, I just don't eat them often anymore. Doesn't mean the addiction is gone though. I love raw tahini, too. I can easily eat a whole jar in one sitting. Don't get it very often, though. Good thing

Hi earth angel and everyone, Sorry I've been mostly without a computer. My monitor died and hasn't gone to the shop yet or been replaced. So, I either use my hubby's computer or the one at the university. Therefor I'm not on-line very often right now. Earth angel, what's that you have on your face? Can't quite make it out. Great picture, though. I've been doing well, eating wise.

Just take it one day at a time. If you need to take it one hour at a time, "I will not eat cooked food this hour, but fruit instead." Sometimes I have to do that. I'm a nut junky right now. I eat way too much fat. I'm at the end of my third year and still in transision. It takes time. It OK if you eat something cooked once in a while. I still do. You can read my diary and se

Hi everyone, I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to write in a while. I can only give a quick update here. I've been able to keep a one-day-a-week fast. It's been most helpful. Last one was great because I had a terrible headache from eating a vegetarian matzo soup at Passover on Monday night. It was great but reminds me of how I can't eat cooked food. I brought my own apple/beet

Thanks, Sachelle. Evannie is doing really well now. She’s breathing on her own now and my daughter is feeding her. She may not go home from the hospital until sometime next week. My daughter is there all the time and is spending the weekend at the hospital with her. As for me I decided to eat mellons only on Wed last week. That worked really well. I felt good about it and it felt clean

Thanks for the good vibes, Sachelle. I'm sending them back to you so you may always have love and peace in your life. Well, I got really sick with week. I had a terrible sore throat and slight fever. I fasted Wed as usual for the lenten season and felt so much better Thur. I still have a slight sore throat, but I feel much better. My Fri fast went really well, too. It's getting easier.

Welcome Rian1213. What are you eating? Are you fasting again? When I get sick, and I still do, I see it as my body's way of expelling the garbage I put in it. I had a terrible sore throat and fever this week but got well very quickly by fasting for 24 hours. Light headedness is your body's way of telling you to rest. Sleep gives your body a chance to do it's job and heal. Here's a

Hi Sachelle, Thanks for your support. This weeks fasts were easier even though I was tempted to eat yesterday. I just thought of the reason I’m doing it and it kept me strong. I’m not eating as much herbs and salt as I was. I hope that’s a thing of the past right now. I read that garlic reduces thyroxine which contributes to the formation of goiters. At least that’s how I read th

Hi Taylor and Sachelle, I’m still around. I’ve been super busy. I have a midterm this week and have been concentrating on so I realised today that I haven’t written in my journal in over a week. Overeating is still a problem. I still seem to be heavily addicted to food with herbs and salt. Before I started fasting, I was eating more simply, no salt or herbs. Fasting seemed to

Hi Dulset, I put the nuts, usually walnuts and/or almonds, through a blender to grind them. Then, I put them in a container and add the rest of the ingredients to taste. It's really good. ** For some reason, I want to just keep eating all the time, even after I'm full. I seemed to have overeaten several times this week, filling up on Lara Bars. Yikes! I accually gained weight. But I w

I would like to add that besides AA being extremely helpful to the alcoholic, Al-Anon is great for family members. The steps are excellent and a Godsend. Alcoholism runs in my family so I have experience with recovery, too. Like KathyT says, each alcoholic has to hit their own bottom. Some bottoms are higher than others. Also, if a person changes to a raw diet and sticks to it, after sev

Hi Sachelle, I live in Panama. The Carnival parties started yesterday. They'll continue until Wed morning when Lent starts. The whole country shuts down for Carnival. It's really something. I'm staying home where my hubby and I will have our own private party. I love the fact that coconut water has only 42 calories. I drink it all the time. It's better than the water here, which tas

Hi Sachelle, Thank you, for writing. I'm doing great this week. The infection in my sinuses are lessened. It’s not completely healed, but much better. My fast yesterday was easier. I think the weekly fasting is doing what I had hoped. I didn’t get the horrible pain in my head this week like I have in the past. It seems like giving my body a days rest is what it needs. For

Hi Taylor, I think the first day of a fast is the hardest. That’s probably why I have had such a hard time with it. I find the second day easier. *** My sinuses didn’t bother me as much this week. I didn’t get the splitting headache like I usually get. So I think this experiment is helping. I fasted only 22 hours this week. It wasn’t as hard as before. It’s different

I was in such misery when I fasted yesterday I quit at dinner. My head was killing me. My sinus infection was unbearable. I have had chronic sinus problems for about 10 years. Doctors can’t do anything about it. It’s better now that I’m raw. I don’t need Kleenexes all day long. I still have an infection deep inside just below my right eye that I feel all the time. When it’s
