Bryan Regarding the Vita-Prep 3, Waring XTreme, & K-Tec Total blenders (and any others of equal power).......... I'm not talking about blending reasonable amounts of ice or frozen fruits in a smoothie where the ratio of frozen product to liquid medium is at least 3 to 1.. I'm talking about ratios of 2 to 1 and less..In almost every post that I've read where someone trashed their expe

For those of you who insist on putting large quantities of frozen fruit (or ice) that are also sized large (ie. 1' x 1' ice cubes, or 1' slices of frozen bananas) into your blenders; take a suggestion from a chef & use a bar blender instead of your food blender or food processor.. Bar blenders are designed with blades that will efficiently break down ice & frozen fruit; but only if the

I may be incorrect, but I believe from my personal experience that RawGuru is an internet facilitator.. In other words they have an agreement with a company, or companies that actually have a warehouse with the products that we raw foodists are ordering & purchasing from them.. In March 2007 I ordered a Blend Tec blender, an Excalibur 9-tray dehydrator, & a Samson juicer; as well as

The motor in the Vita-Prep 3 is designed & manufactured by the company that builds them (not Vita-Mix) to withstand continuous everyday usage under heavy loads without failing..These types of motors are aimed at restaurant kitchens, caterers, juice bars, etc.. Serious raw foodists who are prepping food for themselves & their families purchase the Vita-Prep 3 as it is the least expensiv

Prism How long did you take the Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar before eliminating it from your diet??.. In what form were the vitamin-C & magnesium oxide that you took??.. Do you think fresh orange, or other citrus juices could be substituted for the vitamin-C??.. Thanks, Bruce

Rawmichelle Look for a used Oster Osterizer blender at flea markets, yard sales, thrift stores, etc.. As long as you do not overload the motor by putting too many hard-to-chop ingredients into the carafe before turning on the blender; & as long as there are sufficient liquids with the ingredients to allow them to move about the carafe efficiently, they will perform most tasks that a mor

LikeItOrNot High-powered blenders are designed for commercial restaurants, juice bars, & caterers who overwhelmingly do not want glass carafes for safety reasons.. In a busy commercial environment the probability of a glass carafe being broken is so great that manufacturers stopped using glass decades ago for all blenders not destined for home use.. Manufacturing a plastic carafe cos

pradiata You are correct in assuming that minimal force should be used when turning the cranks on the various spiral slicers..A good rule of thumb with the blades of these slicers is to replace them on a fairly regular basis.. For example, if using the machine once a week for 52 weeks a year, then I would replace the bades every 2-3 years..If used 2-3 days per week for 52 weeks a year, then

Lorretta Bron, the French makers of mandolines, also make a horizontal turning slicer that is manufactured from stainless steel..It is very expensive, at around $500 USD.. It will accomidate veggies that are approximately 50% larger in diameter & in length then the Benriner horizontal turning slicer will.. Having used these machines in commercial kitchens, I have elected to purchase

WY When I first started my backyard organic garden I added as much compost & soil ammendents to the soil as I possibly could.. Check out all of the smaller home & garden type stores in your area for broken bags & bales of compost, mulch, peat moss, rock powders, lime, manures, etc.. Check your local stables for horse manure & bedding..Sometimes they'll give it away for th

pradiata One of the great things about owning a more powerful blender is it's ability to pulverise seeds without having to grind them in a previous step with a coffee bean grinder.. After getting my Vita-Prep 3 I seldom found myself picking strawberry or blueberry seeds from between my teeth this summer.. My Oster Osterizer would not pulverise these seeds no matter how long I let the ble

cocoa_nibs Tell your husband that, YES!!, you need a blender as well as a food processor in your raw kitchen.. Each will perform tasks that the other WILL do, although will not do as well for one reason or another.. If a Vita-Mix blender is currently not in the budget, be assured that an older Oster Osterizer blender will do a fine job in the interim; as long as you have sufficient liqui

Sakti Benriner makes two models of turning slicers.. One is vertical & the other is horizontal.. The horizontal model costs approximately $15-20 more then does the vertical model.. I have both; inherited the vertical after purchasing the horizontal.. I also own & use a Bron mandoline.. I prefer the horozontal as I believe it is slightly better designed & constructed.

wrenbrrd I have a Ronco round dehydrator that I paid $79.99, plus S&H, for about 15 years ago.. Used it maybe 10 times, & it's been stored in the attic in it's box for over a decade.. Completely forgot about it until reading a post recently about round dehydrators on another forum several weeks ago.. It doesn't have any non-stick sheets with it, so you would have to improvise

The reason I ask is as follows: Years ago I read an article by Yvon Chouinard, the founder of Patagonia Clothing Company, in Climbing Magazine..In the article he was talking about his latest expedition to try & climb Mt. Everest, & how he had enjoyed the trip so much more than his previous one..

happyway The main differences between bar blenders & food blenders are in the size of the carafe, the design of the blades, & the power of the motor.. The carafes are generally 32 oz in capacity..Some of the more recent offerings in bar blenders have larger carafes..These are seen in very busy bars where a large number of the same drinks will be prepared at the same time, for instan

WY My feelings as a chef is that no individual raw eater will possibly NEED the capacity & power offered by a 20.5 amp blender with a 96 oz carafe.. If you were preparing foods for a large number of people for a party, or if your family consisted of at least 4 adult eaters that were ALL raw; then perhaps a home cook MIGHT need such a machine.. Even so, careful use of your time with a

WY How many raw foodists really NEED blenders that put out the power from a 20 amp motor??.. I can only see two areas in life where such powerful blenders will be needed.. First in busy restaurants / juice bars where TIME is at a premium..Here, being able to throw whole fruits & veggies into the blender's carafe; & just "Letting 'Er Rip", that would be a huge advantage.

Libra As to chemicals leaching into our foods as the result of blending; I have to say that this will be the least of my health concerns; at least until I am a LOT healthier than I am currently!!.. Perhaps in the busiest of juice bars or restaurants where the fruits & veggies are tossed into the carafe whole & the power cranked on??.. I can't imagine the noise that it puts out!!.. I'll also bet it needs an enclosure in order for the noise output to be tolerable??.. Thanks for the blender reviews lately.
