Last night I had some wonderful wild 'indian plums' it was so great having something so unique and apart from commerical foods. It has such a complex flavor, mostly slightlybittersweet, with a lingering finish. But the season is so short. Right now most of the fruit are drying up and starting to drop on the tree. They are about 1/2 the size of a cherry, with a pit. Anyways I am so annoyed that th

Something positive to add about native americans. I think that we are taking more responsibility for our situation. I read an article about distance running becoming popular again in certain tribes. As an alternative to alcohol, with the benefit of helping to control diabetes as well. Another disease which is a problem for the native american populations.

khale, Yes, there are diseases that tend to run in particular human strains. Northern europeans are more likely to have celiacs disease. Its interesting that you bring up alcohol in relationship to native americans. Its not just genetics, but I think there is also a cultural difference in how one looks at mind alterning substances. Alcohol was just another way to achieve an altered state of mind

Sunshine, Yes, I know what your talking about. I found that I respond more appropriate to situations more of the time then I did in the past. I am also more emotionally stable, the extremes in mood aren't there anymore. But I'm not emotionally dead either! I am much more inclined to say this thing or that thing bothers me, rather than letting someone walk all over me.

Yikes...I just read my previous post. Its definately time I got over it! That compassion/sympathy thing seems to have alot of truth. Except I would call it something else verses compassion. I definately want to be a new person and start fresh, leave the past behind, or at least not have it cripple me anymore.

2227. Goldfish
What is the best living foods for goldfish? I got one of my goldfish an aquatic plant, a guy at a pet shop said they were good for goldfish. I don't think we understood each other very well. I thought I was clear about it being food for the fish...she never touched the plant ever! I think he suggested a plant which will decorate the tank and not disappear from being eaten! Sometime ago I got

La veronique, Yes, I grew up in a very abusive household. More so than the average home I believe. Its probably little wonder that my father joined the military. I grew up packing up and moving about every two years or so to live on another military base. Each time I had to make new friends and say goodbye to the ones I had. Eventually we started living off base, but we still spent quite a bit o

Hello everyone, Thank you for posting. I haven't looked on the board for a few hours, or has it been days? I don't know, but I certainly got more responses than I thought I would, and I am very glad. I am also quite glad to hear some very straightforward and honest replies, and perhaps a more detailed look at my original post that I thought would happen. Its rather suprising. My original post

Its interesting that since I started posting here, and got thinking about raw foods again, I am recalling some painful memories. I found that some of my most painful memories in childhood and teen years have been direcly or indirectly food related. The other painful memories deal with sexuality, but I won't cover those here, as this is a raw food board. My first painful memory was in grade sch

How about transitioning? is it adviseable to eat some amount of cooked food to take on detox at a lower rate? Mine was really really bad, I am not certain I want to take on detox head on.

Rawnoggin, I am glad to hear that you feel so much better with raw. After some thought however, raw may not be a total panecea for all of societies ills. However, it would be interesting to see whats left if a community went raw.

Anuiyu7 Acid on the skin? How could that happen? It sounds curious, but it seems like the body would neutralize the acid, rather than bring it out on the skin. But I suppose its possible. The last time I went raw I remember loosing weight rather rapidly and from very specific areas, often overnight, and where I had lost weight I had a number of very large acne. Its like my body had the means to

David, Its just the concept. I realize that its impossible to set up a city thats absolutely raw, unless it has a high fence, passports, and a meter to test for cooked food kind of like breath meters for alcohol. Even with all that, anyone could start a fire in secret, or smuggle in 'contraband'. All in all it would be rather culty, and ultimately abusive, something not necessary. But the concep

Aqua, I changed the post. I was wondering if it gave too much information. After my original post, I wondered if anyone would be able to figure out who I was talking about. I live in a pretty small town, and it might be easy to figure out.

2237. Raw city
Can you see anytime in the future a complete city that is free from cooked food of any sort? What would that be like? I'm trying to imagine. It would be different, instead of coffe shops, raw juice bars. At night these same juice bars would take the place of regular bars, with a dance floor, music etc. But I'm sure it would be different. The local fast food places might still be open, but having

Its good to hear from you all. I wish I had stayed with the program. Its just that my first experience with detox was just so severe I broke with living foods. I think it was because I didn't have enough faith that what was happening was good overall. But what I remember was like a really bad nightmare, coming home from work feeling extremely tired. Not too unusual for me, so I didn't think anyth

Sunshine, You reminded me of cucumber kimchi, how could i forget! I just love that stuff. I first tried it in Korea along with some other kimchi that isn't usually made in the united states. I tried making my own kimchi, but it didn't turn out the way I thought it would. Gab cousens has a recipe in one of his raw books. What an excellent suggestion!

Bikini, Soaked almonds and cashews, that sounds wonderful! Unfortunately I don't have a dehydrator. Maybe I will check out the raw section at the food co-op and see what is there. That sounds so good!

2241. Cravings
I've really been craving roasted and salted peanuts. Which is kind of odd, as I was certain that I would be craving other things. I thought the craving would go away after eating pecans, but it has not. I am wondering if its the salt. I don't have any sea salt or anything really salty with me at the moment. But is it adviseable to eat salt of anykind? Or is it better to seek out plants which are

I've heard of people adding spirulina and or fresh green juices for added protein. But I don't know if thats the best. When I was weightlifting a number of years ago, I started eating a lot of tofu for protein. But now I know about the phytoestrogens and other problems with soy, I wouldn't do that again. I also added raisins and pine nuts for extra calories, as I kept on loosing weight. Its k

Greenie, I just noticed your comments about roxanne's and other resturants. Thats too bad about roxanne's. I wish they had worked it out, or if not at least saved the resturant. I would feel better knowing its there, even if I don't aways stay raw. Its good that even 'sad'people liked it. I have no clue how that radio guy thought it was all bad. Its too bad about the other raw resturant. The

Aqua, I noticed the same thing. I have given some really nice organic produce for a friend to try, and he seems to really like it, and comments about how good it is. But THEN he says it doesn't matter if its heirloom and organic. He always says that studies prove there is no difference in taste, appearance or nutrition. I ask him where he gets that, and he just says the paper. I would like to kn

aqua, I have heard people in passing mentioning raw foods. Sometimes its from people I didn't know, or don't know very well. In their point of view it had to do with 'dieting' in the sense of something unpleasant to keep track of, depravation, not much fun etc... I suppose that view sort of makes sense from their perspective, as the only raw foods these people eat tend to be salads, mostly lettu

Aqua, I like vancouver because it seems to have a much more conscious approach to eating. I guess its because its a large city and is more likely to have something for everyone. I have seen gluten free resturants, vegetarian & vegan places. But I haven't encountered an all raw resturant. In the San francisco bay area, there were a number of places that served primarily raw, and completel

Aqua, I haven't a clue. I still feel bad, because I know I made a value judgement. In a sense it wasn't personal at all, and not particularly about them either. It just seemed so staged, like someone was shooting a commercial, or a scene from a comedy, like she said it right on cue. Its also just the common thought in the area I was laughing at. For the average person in the county, its not foo
