I went to a nice resturant last night, and was happy that they are starting to feature some raw dishes, like cucumber bisque with melon pieces. I was so suprised when a woman came in and looked at the menu, and said really loud, "WHERE IS MY SPAGHETTI AND MEATBALLS?!!!" Apparently, they thought it was still the dive that used to be there almost a year ago. I just started laughing uncon

No this isn't advocating anything cooked necessarily. I just found it kind of odd that this berry had that name. Its not baked, and theres no apples. I have had these berries and they don't taste like baked apples either. Also custard apples...i have never tried them, but its not an apple, and no custard.

Aquadecoco, I live in whatcom county in Western washington state. Seattle and vancouver canada are not far away, so one would think some of that culture would spread out around here. One of my neighbors moved up from Santa Barbara california. All she said was that housing was cheap, another person from california said that it was a great place to raise children. Thats fine and all, but I really

CriCri, Thats really difficult sounding. I guess I should feel fortunate that at least some organic foods are available here. Americans must really have it too easy. That we even have the occation to think about such things. I really think that a number of other countries are too hungry to even think about not using pesticides. When I traveled to korea, I cannot recall ever hearing about anythin

Aqua, Its not weird to take care of yourself. Whats weird are people who know better and yet still do things they know are bad for them, and promote it to others. Its not too bad at work, as far as people making light of other peoples habits. Its not really harassing, its more subtle than that. Its the fact that most people just eat incredible amounts of junk. Some KNOW and admit that its not go

Have any of you had indian plums? I ate about a dozen today, they were perfectly ripe. I tried some that were about 50% ripe, and they just tasted awful. I am glad that I gave it a second chance. The taste is unlike any other fruit I have tasted. Sort of like a plum, but not as sweet or overly watery, also quite a bit firmer. Also a slight bitter taste. Its kind of odd however, Its bitter at firs

Bryan, Did you find that age has anything to do with their perceptions? I noticed that younger people are more likely to think they are unbreakable, especially if they are male. Another part of the equation is that they KNOW certain things are bad for them, such as being overweight, smoking, eating junk food, heavy drinking. They do it anyway, the feeling being that those things are 'fun', a

Jodi & prism, Thank you for your reply. Its given me a bit to think about. My brief experience with raw foods has improved my digestion quite a bit. I do tend to eat a lot, but even more so with raw foods. I have a garden now, but its not doing very well, perhaps in the future it will help provide what I need. The produce around here isn't great, even at a food co-op. At least there are wild

Yeah, the theory in TCM is that cooking and digesting are similiar processes. The idea is that it partly digests it. They fully recognize that some nutrients are being lost, but they fully believe that more is gained from the cooking. Cooking also is believed to warm its atmospheric energy. Which sort of makes sense if more is being absorbed in the way of calories. A great point is what if th

I have tried raw veganism, and I have kept it 100% up to three weeks, and then I started getting sick. Some say it was the start of serious detox. That was scary. I know how people can be. I had a friend who said I was critical of him, when in fact I was just answering questions whenever he had them. He said I also made him feel weird about the stuff he was eating, which actually may have be

Troy, Thank you for your private message. I think my gums are doing ok, and even the fine holes are ok, although my supplementation is not as much as it used to be. How long can one continually buy Klamath lake algae, coq10 etc... I dropped a number of supplements, and added trace mineral drops (concentrace)vitamin D(this winter, but recently ran out) and still take coq10, billberry. My diet is

Tropical, Thank you for the information. How does one incorporate coconut oil into a raw lifestyle? I know its used in cooking alot. My experience is that its rather solid at room temp, but liquifies at relatively low temps. Do you know of any spreads or other recipes for raw foodists? thank you, Mislu

My cholestrol and blood lipids have improved, along with weight and blood pressure. I don't describe myself as a vegetarian, and I aspire to raw foodism, although I do tend to cheat quite a bit. Still its much an improvement over what was.

Coco, Thats true, the few TCM practitioners I have spoken to don't generally have the same understanding of a raw food diet as presented on this forum. What is generally discussed is an over consumption of salads, fruit etc. Usually seeds and nuts are not discussed, or things like spirulina or hemp protein etc... I also don't recall any discussion of raw animal products either. These aren't gene

Arugula, Thats very interesting. Is there any information about those studies available at this time? I imagine that shes probably waiting until the study is complete to publish anything. To others on this thread, Yes, people who have studied ahimsa in the Jain religion admit that ahimsa in the absolute sense isn't possible. The immune function killing things is a great example. Its not a

Rob & Arugula, Those were both excellent responses, thank you for caring & sharing. There is one point which people in Traditional Chinese medicine point out. They believe that cooked food is necessary for cold environments, winter time etc. Alot of people live within some zone where its cold enough to need clothing during some part of the year. They think its warming, and helps people a

Mangogirl, I had an interesting experience with spirulina. I had tried it years ago, and just stopped. Then at some point I got a craving for it. At the time I had an overuse syndrome in my hands, which was just so painful at night it woke me up and kept me up for hours. In anycase, after I got the spirulina and ate it, my hand changed a sort of purple-pink color. It kind of freaked me out. It w

Jamied, I think I understand your frustration. There are a lot of things that people do which are less than ideal. What gets me is when people seem to be doing better in life in someway, while they are doing things that I see as wrong. I figure that they are doing other things right, that I am doing wrong. For instance I don't have an intense desire to connect with most people. Sometimes people

M Blondie, I think expressing your concerns are a good thing. I tried the raw vegan diet, and I have some mixed feelings about it. I absolutely loved how it makes breathing incredibly easier. I never thought that I had a problem breathing until I tried raw veganism. Also my sense of smell was drastically heightened, and usually my sense of smell isn't so good. At the time I was living in a big c

Rob, Why do you think a single person left the tropics? What explains the millions of people who do not live in the tropics? People are very skilled at making tools which make our range much larger. People however make plenty of tools, wear clothing, cook, live in houses in the tropics as well. I seem to hear the statement about the tropics being the natural place for humans a lot on raw food we

I have tried the RGLFC plan. It was very interesting. I love the fresh feeling one gets in the mouth from that way of eating. I think its due to all the minerals. I direct a question to anyone who wishes to respond. I often find it confusing how much differing advice there is on the ideal raw food diet. It ranges from fruit only, (sometimes even single fruit diets for months at a time)a mixed

Sapphire, Some members of my direct family are smokers. Actually all of my sisters have smoked at one time. The eldest however has smoked the longest, and still smokes. Unfortunately, it already has negative effects on her children. One had surgery in his ears due to second hand smoke, she tried to smoke outside of the house, in the garage, but she obviously didn't try hard enough. They followed

Sapphire, That doesn't sound so good. I hope you both come to understand each other better. I don't want to imply that you take up bad habits, or tolerate anything you don't want in your life. I think that seeing things in a different light would be of help. I think some time away from her influence would be helpful, at least long enough for you to get more insight. After reading another post, i

Sunraybling, If you have a chance to grow and eat some wild food, I think you will find your raw experience will have a quite a bit more 'spark'. If wild things aren't available, grow some heirloom organic stuff. If you don't have the space, time or energy, I hope your local organic food co-op has some heirloom and wild type food, or 'superfoods' to supplement your experience!

Vickey, I never understood how people can be so ignorant about protein. I can recall when I was in my teenage years I strickly avoided beef, lamb, pork. I wasn't a vegetarian during this time period. But VERY quickly I got alot of strange comments, like "you need protein", as if chicken, fish, eggs, cheese didn't have any. Some people even started calling me vegetarian, for avoiding ma

I would like to know how you make the most of your healthy raw foods lifestyle. This can also include activities or non-activities which are therapeutic or just plain fun! and perhaps have little to do with raw foods directly.

Trinity, Very sweet and also acid fruits are supposed to be really bad for the teeth, especially if its the primary food you eat. I hear wonderful stories about improvements in dental health. After reading some webpages on the subject, some are of the opinion that supplementation with minerals, trace elements and additional therapies to raw food help make improvements happen. Although some fo
