Look into these if you haven't already: Cherie Soria's Living Light culinary institute: Matthew Kenney Academy (he is a noted raw food chef): While not a raw chef culinary school, the Natural Gourmet Institute is excellent: A friend of mine attended Natural Gourmet. It was a very good program, she said, and she interned at Greens (famous San Francisco vegetarian restauran

KidRaw's advice is excellent. My husband is an omnivore, and is quite supportive about the way I eat. A big reason is that I don't nag him or push my food on him. If your partner was not a raw foodist when you met it isn't fair, in my opinion. to expect him to change ... or maybe more accurately, to change to suit your timeframe. It is this expectation that is causing the problem, in my opini

Storm and Jinjee's 'Garden Diet' ebook might work. No dehydrator required, no exotic ingredients except for Thai coconuts and you could skip those recipes if you don't have access to them. They also have a ebook called 'Raising raw vegan children' that you might want to look into. I have the 'Garden Diet' book; got it early in my raw journey. I have always liked their ethos (real food, n

One thing you might consider is not making unsolicited pronunciamentos about what you will and won't eat, the raw lifestyle, etc. I'm not saying you did that, but if offered food that you don't want to eat, a simple, 'no thanks' is enough, as opposed to 'I can't eat that, it isn't raw' or 'I only eat raw food'. That can spark a lot of unwanted attention and the wrong kind of interest--like the c

I graduated from a holistic nutrition course a couple of years ago. It was a live class (not online), which was taught over the course of 5 or 6 weekends. We had to do a couple of case studies at the end (where you interview people, ask what they eat and come up with an eating plan for them). There were readings and homework assignments. It was quite a bit cheaper than holistic nutrition cour

Plus, if this stuff is plankton, it's taking food away from whales and other sea animals. They are dependent on this food source; humans shouldn't be taking it from them. Like with krill oil--krill is being harvested in huge amounts to make krill oil, and krill is a major food source for whales. It's not enough that we slaughter them and pollute the ocean where they live, we are also taking th

Hi there, I live in DC too. Don't know if you are aware of it, but there is a very active Northern Virginia raw meetup group (http://www.meetup.com/RawNOVA/); they plan tons of get-togethers, classes, etc. Best of luck in your raw journey. Elizabeth (aka Raw Librarian)

Try adding some avocado (1/4 to 1/2 an avocado is the amount I use), or a couple of tablespoons of hemp seed. I prefer the seed to hemp protein powder because it is less processed. The added (good) fat keeps me satiated.

Here are some. These have lots of color photos. All of these have text, of course; they are recipe books so there are instructions, etc. My listing of these does not indicate that I think they are "the best raw food books", nor is it an exhaustive list. Of the raw books I have examined (and I've examined a lot), these have the most color photos--some of which are rather precious &

Great recipe, Prana! I made it last night. It will definitely be a staple--delicious, easy to make, no exotic ingredients, and no nuts!! Most raw taco recipes use taco 'meat' made from nuts--too much fat and hard to digest (for me at least). Thanks *very much* for posting!

I've been married twice (still married to husband number two). I kept my own name both times. Never a big deal to anyone. Unromantic though it is, a big reason to get married is have some control in legal sitatuions--being able to make decisions for an incapacitated loved one, being able to be there while the loved one is in hospital, making your loved one the beneficiary of your pension/soc

A lot of the things you mention are expensive supplements that are of questionable utility. Never tried a zapper; one of my friends loves hers. YMMV. Zeolite: very $$$, and at least one brand is part of a multilevel marketing scheme. Not as bad as a pyramid scheme, but still, I'd be wary. If the raw almond butter isn't refrigerated, I would seriously doubt that it is raw. Better to mak

I'm using Ultimate Meal because our kitchen is being remodeled and I don't have access to a refrigerator (but I can still use my blender). I have green smoothies every morning for breakfast and thought I would try this as a replacement--I didn't want my greens to start going bad so decided to try this as a substitute. We're keeping the berries in a cooler on our screened in porch. It's prett

I make something like Gilmore Girl's cucumber soup, but the lemon or lime juice is not optional. It gives the soup a really great fresh taste. I also add a bit of hot pepper like jalapeno.

I was asked if this was my restaurant. Nope. My name is Elizabeth Moon and I'm a librarian, like my name sez. If it were mine, I certainly wouldn't hide my ownership, I'd promote it (to get customers and all that ...) The owner is Elizabeth Petty, who has been in the food industry for a long time.

I was born in 1956 and grew up in a suburban environment. My siblings and I heard 'eat a piece of fruit' if we wanted a snack--my parents didn't buy snack food like potato chips. Every so often my parents would make popcorn for us--it was a Big Deal. We also had veggies with meals. However, we also ate a lot of stuff like tuna noodle casserole, meat loaf, and so on. My mom had a meat grinder

Hi Michelle, There is a meetup based in Northern Virginia. They have lots of activities: DC is not NYC or San Francisco in terms of having many raw food restaurants. Java Green in downtown DC has some raw things on the menu, as well as a juice bar (http://www.javagreencafe.com/) Senbeb Cafe is close to the Takoma metro stop (Red Line). The chef, Khepra Anu, is a raw foodist (a
