Hello Dear Friends, It seems I'm on an unwanted adventure. Recently I noticed a depression in my right breast, so I had a mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy and it is cancer. Tomorrow I meet with the surgeon to plan my care. It's scary, but I eat well and have the loving support of my husband. The UVA Breast Care Center is excellent. I trust that I will be fine in time, but I'm feeling sad ri

RAWLION's "Pumpkin pie" recipe made from kabocha squash, dates, dehydrated butternut squash (to thicken it), the meat from young coconuts, and coconut oil can be a dessert filling in a cone-shaped raw cracker. It's kind of a dessert wrap!

Once I lived in a rented house that had a plum orchard in the back yard and there were about eight different kinds of plum trees. Purple, red, yellow, red and yellow - I only knew their tastes and colors, not their real names, but Oh so delicious! Ahhhhhhhhhh. I LOVE LOVE LOVE plums! And miss having them fresh off the trees. (But there are still a few figs on the tree outside my window - alas n

I had a friend from Mexico who loved nopales. She preferred young, small ones because they were more tender and called them nopalitos.

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH! The vortex of negativity is sucking me in. I want to respond but that would only fuel the fire of negativity. Should not comment further. Must resist... Kryptonite. Noooooooooooo..................

I can't be certain which topics to NOT click on. For example, political comments are off-limits on this site, but they often appear anyway on topics entirely unrelated, so the suggestion not to click on topics is not reliable advice. I have been here for quite a while now, but also don't like the recent trend of political comments, negativity and fear-mongering. Yes, Tamukha, I agree with

You love rats? Hmmm... Well, I guess it's like me saying I love donkeys. People often think it's odd, but I know they're quite lovable. And now I know rats like to be tickled!

Although I understand and appreciate reasons people have for not keeping caged birds as pets, in the past I've had several birds as pets and they can be quite affectionate. I have my doubts about robotic birds satisfying the joy pets bring. As a young girl, we kept a bird for an aunt who lived overseas for a while. It LOVED the old Lawrence Welk show and would loudly match the pitch of a sin

Here are the lyrics to "Plant a Radish". (It's really more of a song about not knowing how your children will turn out, but the first stanza is about radishes!) Plant a radish. Get a radish. Never any doubt. That's why I love vegetables; You know what you're about! Plant a turnip. Get a turnip. Maybe you'll get two. That's why I love vegetables; You know that they'll come

Some of my best memories are of hiking and camping with my family. One day we hiked along the Mississippi river and built a driftwood fire on a sandbar on the river's edge. We got tugboats to toot at us. I remember that from 50 years ago! One vacation my family camped from Louisiana to Colorado and back. Fabulous experiences. When my mother took us to parks we usually brought a sket

Like me, it sounds like you're comfortable with answering a few questions, but it is the argumentative people that are the problem. When they begin with the barrage of questions/statements that is the time to alter the conversation by saying things like: It sounds like we have different opinions, but there are lots of other things to talk about. Did you see the game.... Whoa there. If you

Oh, puhleeze! There's no need for so many discussions to turn contentious. I'm seeing an argumentative trend that I don't like and if that's the way it's going to be around here, I'll opt out until conversations get normal again.

That may be true for him, but to generalize that to all people is goes way too far. I mean... Some people find meaning and fulfillment gardening. Others find it helping make the world a better place. Some find it in relationships or raising a family. Etc. Etc. Etc. Who's to say what is the ONLY real and meaningful life? I like being able to search and find out what that is for mys

When I need to read something like a phone number in small print and don't have my reading glasses on me, I squeeze my fingers together to make a tiny hole that I can look through and I'll be darned if I can't read it!!! Those of you who use reading glasses, take them off, make a tiny opening to see through with your fingers, and try reading some small print. Really. Very strange. Try it a
