amazi, Broccoli sprouts are fine and I consider them a food. H. pylori responds favorably to antibiotics, so maybe look into a natural ones?

Water, moderate exercise, rest. Rest being the most important--you seem high energy, and that can wear a system out. Hope everything gets moving soon

Brendan, It's inconvenient, but unfortunately true, that most veggies should not be washed until ready to use. Obviously, if you are going to be using large amounts whithin two days of purchase, you can prep several pounds of leafy greens, say, immediately and wrap them in clean dishcloths or paper towels and put into those plastic bags or into large glass lidded bowls that can be refrigera

Mindy, Maybe don't mix sweets and fat? Do either almonds or dates, not at the same time. If it's evening where you are, prolly nuts are a better choice, as dates are energizing and you are likely not running a marathon after midnight

Huh, that stuff by description looks like authentic Willard Water, Prana. I take WW and have experienced many subtle health benefits from it. My houseplants like it, too! You've recommended the probiotic supplement from this company, I think, and I am hoping to try it when I need to restock on probiotics. Thanks for posting these things coco, maybe do give a detoxifying product a consid

fruitylou, Define "worse." Yesterday on the national news--I think it was NBC--they had a map showing that only four states haven't presented with any flu cases; the chyron said that the flu is reaching epidemic proportions. The confirmed case states were a red color, and the non-confirmed were yellow. We like our scary color coding systems here. Now, I don't watch the news very

Prana, LOL about Captain Picard! And taking a page out of his book: rab, you wish to go to bed at 10 p.m. to be better rested? Make it so.

mindy, Mostly greens in an initial phase should be fine, but be sure to eat complex starchy carbs, as Prana advises, in the other part of the day in sufficient amounts to maintain glucose.

Pleas stop, I'm gonna hurl! It is interesting that these articles never consider that these foods may never be necessary because the human may not persist long enough . . .

Note: the fired nurse who has never had a flu shot has never been sick enough to take more than a few days off work. We really need to resume teaching science in our nation's schools. I wonder at people's not knowing that you cannot vaccinate effectively against influenza because it mutates too rapidly, and also not knowing that it doesn't like cold. I learned this as a child, in scho

mindy, Welcome! I agree with much of what everyone else says. I will say this: Every body responds differently to going cold turkey, regardless of what one is leaving behind, so proceed with attentiveness to what your body is telling you at all times. I would recommend easing into this, as you have pre-existing conditions and are eating SAD, rather than, if I don't mistake you, a "

Dee, Please think about why you are doing this. If it's to get as healthy as possible so your kids have their mom, and your husband has his wife, for many decades to come, that is a good reason. If it's to set an example for your family about what IS and ISN'T food, that's a good reason. You may have other reasons than those, but the point is that they should be serious and have more weight

Panchito, I have heard about this trend, but reading just this: "In-vitro burger" made me want to retch. Upon reading the whole article, I am feeling decidely queasy. The inevitable comment underneath that reads, "Soylent Green is people," made me laugh, though! Thanks for posting?

I am not a big fan of 30BAD Sucks, because the entire premise is based on ad hominem and it pervades every thread and I don't think that's healthy behavior for most 80-10-10 apostates to engage in. High fruit doesn't work for you, and you resent being unable to discuss it with the gurus, OK. But constant mocking and venting helps how?

michele, This in drnicki's response stands out: QuoteStress-reduction was also important, as the cortisol release during the stress response causes us to gain weight. Are you familiar with Brendan Brazier? He is a big proponent of the hypothesis that stress will counteract much of the effects of good diet if the stress is not addressed.

kwan, Eh, I think Graham is subtly criticizing the zealots with that statement from last summer, and warning them that their zealotry isn't doing any favors for the spread of raw vegetarianism. Factions gonna faction. Or something.

Panchito, that's one of the most amazingly effective messages I've ever seen. I can only imagine the blowback from the people this is directed at as this thing circulates! We need to be more vocal about this stuff.

coco, I hear you, though I am not as sensitive as this. Charcoal, definitely, and open the windows whenever possible--I know this is rough when it's winter outside--and maybe consider getting candles that could purify the air. Whoever invented AXE Body Spray, undoubtedly what junior is spritzing himself with, should meet with Biblical justice in the afterlife.

Yesterday, I visited a forum for vegetarian athletes and there was a several-years-old thread from the moderator about "hidden" animal products in apparently benign foods and products. One poster after another posted links showing that industrial use of animal by-products is more widespread than even I suspected--and I keep a pretty strict household. Frightening!

This thread is fascinating! Thanks to all for their contributions--long have I thought that sedentariness is as directly linked to Americans' poor health as diet, and what is being posted here seems to bolster this hypothesis.

80/10/10 does include a large variety of leafy greens, and in greater volumes than the SAD, way greater. One should be mindful of the ned to assess one's responses to a regimen, and to be willing to alter the regimen sensibly to one's needs. I am glad this old thread was revived for newer members to consider, but it does make me miss Anaken's thoughtful presence on these boards . . .
