I read the article, and on the surface, I don't see fruit, or leafy greens, and in the UK, like in the northern half of the US, vitamin D deficiency is a real concern, if you don't supplement it or do something to make up for the sunshine you aren't getting. Vegetables, while important, are very low in calories. Fruit, while very high in carbs and vitamins, are not the best source of minerals

Okay, I'll go look at the UV-D light and see what name it is... Oh, and no, you aren't supposed to tan with it. Tanning is a response to damage, apparently. You only use it 5 minutes, 3 times a week, and you change the body area you are exposing to it each time, so that it will not damage... Okay, the name.... It's a KBD light, that I got from Sperti Sun Lamp. sperti.com Not the most so

I have a UV-D light. It's not the SunSplash - I found it through naturalnews.com, from an article on vitamin D, and then I did some 'guided Googling', and found this one. (this is all because I can't think of the brand name!) Anyway, since I live in 'sunny' Washington state, I use this light regularly from Fall Equinox until Spring Equinox! My Dear Hubby, who has lived here all his life, an

I will second (third?) the idea that it would be best, if you are transitioning into raw, to stick with just raw early in the day, and save your not-raw items until later. The raw fruit and veggies (not nuts, seeds, or avocado) will digest quickly. The not raw items will take much, much longer to digest. If you eat raw fruit and veggies AFTER not raw items, they will 'gang up' on it, bec

Always eat your fruit whole, so that it has the soluble fibre to keep the sugars from spiking. Dr. Graham suggests blending fruit with celery, to increase the fibre, if you would like. Most 'complex carbs' that people think of are actually irritants, like grains - they irritate the intestines, and many people are allergic to them.

On Dr. Graham's video, High Energy Diet, he talks about starting where you are, and just making some changes - it's a transitional thing. Like, have just fruit for breakfast. Have more fruit for lunch, then maybe a salad. Dinner, have some fruit, have a large salad, and then, if you want it, have some cooked starch OR cooked meat (he mentions chicken). This would be a way to start getti

Fruit is sweet, healthy, delicious, and you can often find it fairly cheap. Bananas are always a good bargain.

...and taking off your shoes and socks costs nothing. Walk around barefoot more. Go outside, let the sunlight shine on your feet for a few minutes, every day that you possibly can. Rubbing alcohol is cheap. After you wash your feet and toes, take a cotton ball, wet it with rubbing alcohol, and wipe the affected toe nail. Walk around barefoot. It may not work as fast as other remedies, b

Raw peanuts can harbor aflatoxin, a mold byproduct that grows on peanuts in storage, which can make you real sick. Well, so can cooked ones, for that matter. Sure, go ahead, eat raw peanuts. Raw peanuts packaged in vegetable oil and salt? sure, sounds really healthy to me... *NOT* A simple search on Google will turn up all kinds of interesting facts about the peanut.

I think the most important thing, concerning nursing a toddler, is your attitude about it. If YOU act like there is something 'wrong' with nursing your toddler, then your child will pick up on that, and might have some later life issues concerning how he/she was parented. If your attitude is loving, nurturing, and natural, then he/she should grow up without any sort of 'issue' concerning being

We put a scoop in our green smoothie. My DH noticed that when we were doing that regularly, a couple of months ago, his and my fingernails actually show a thicker band of growth (weak nails are my bane...), so he asked that we continue the MSM in our smoothies.

I've seen the Prill beads elsewhere. Would they work if I stuck them in the crock of our water dispenser? We get reverse-osmosis water, and the bottle sits on a crock, gravity feed, not a water cooler thing. Would it hurt to have the beads in there all the time? Yes, I should go do my own research, just wondered if anyone knew now.

No dairy. No soy. Stay out of the sauna/hot tub during your menses. Raspberry leaf tea, which you can get from Mountain Rose herbs, or Traditional Medicinals tea co, is supposed to help, along with the other 'women's herbs'... (chaste berries is tapping at my mind, but I'm not sure) there are various blends of herbal teas for us ladies with out of balance cycles. I'd go to mountain rose herb

Some recipes 'assume' that you've soaked/dried the nuts prior to use. Others may be don't believe the soaking theory. For some recipes, the water content of the nuts is important to the texture. Usually, a recipe that calls for soaked nuts wants the wetter texture. Some nuts do not need to be soaked - generally, the really hard shelled varieties seem to not need to be soaked, like macadamias

Wheat berries have gluten. Not good if you have any sort of gluten intolerance - which has been implicated in intestinal disorders. I avoid wheat most of the time.

So, you have a baby, and a toddler. Are you getting enough rest? outdoor exercise? Hormonal changes after childbirth can throw you for a loop. If this continues, you might discuss it with your health care person - though I would hesitate to suggest that you need medication (after my first baby, my dr. put me on tranquilizers! I changed doctors...), you might have something in your brain ch

Doing a Google search for communities shows that you can find one just about anywhere you'd want to live! Me, I'd prefer Oregon - decent climate for growing food year-round, fruit, trees, not too onerous regulatory system, etc. I'd also love to move to Ecuador, which has 12 hours of sunlight each day, year round, lovely weather, lush tropical fruit all year round!

My Dear Hubby had an issue with toe nail fungus (probably related to 12-hour shifts in safety shoes). He's cleared it up with tea tree oil. Apply morning and night to the nail and to the cuticle. Going barefoot more often really helps. Eating raw helps a lot, too.

Actually, yes, I did meet Doug Graham, just a few weeks ago. One of the main reasons that I decided to seriously try 80/10/10 is because the man is truly HEALTHY looking. Some of the other attendees of the retreat I was at, who are also doing either 80/10/10 or similar low-fat/high fruit raw vegan eating styles, looked incredibly healthy (John Kohler, for instance). These are people who have b

Wheatgrass juice was a staple of our rawness when we first started! My DH and I were each drinking about 2-3 ounces per day - on the days when I didn't just cut the wheatgrass and throw it into a green smoothie! I think that WG is a great supplemental juice, for when you need that extra ZING of chlorophyll. It's very healing, as well. Best to take on an empty tummy. We'd cut it with an

Victoria Boutenko, in her book Green for Life, lays out the research that she did on nutritional needs and how our (genetically) closest "wild" relatives eat naturally. ~60% fruit, ~40% greens, with up to 2% seeds, nuts, small insects, rodents, etc. This is also discussed in the 80/10/10 book, which is well worth the investment. We are designed to eat a LOT of fruit, as much gr

1goneraw, I got myself a Kitchen Aid 12-cup food processor, and I truly love it! It's used almost every day. I did invest in a Excalibur 9-tray dehydrator, and it is nice to have that many trays - I can start a large batch of crackers, or dry a large number of tomato halves at once. I don't use it as often as I did when I first started going raw. We eat a lot more fresh fruit now, so the munch
