I buy sunflower seeds and chia seeds by the 5 pound sack. I buy carrots in 10 pound sacks. Frozen blueberries in the largest bags I can get -- usually 3 or 4 pounds. I bought a 10 pound sack of onions once... unfortunately, almost half of them were bad I do buy the large bins of spinach or salad greens (now, my salad greens are growing well in the garden, so only the spinach, until my spinac

We love our dehydrator. Mostly, I use it to 'save' bananas going too ripe, and for making a variety of raw crackers. DH is nearly over his bread addiction, since he can now use dehydrated crackers instead (along with raw 'mayo', etc.). Fresh food is always better. Dehydrated foods can help in the transition, or for saving the harvest (like, your own dried tomatoes! yay!). Some of us are j

If you are having difficulty in drinking greens in a smoothie, I'd recommend Victoria Boutenko's 'recipe' of 60% fruit/40% greens. The fruit overwhelms the greens taste! It's also pretty important to use a powerful blender, as otherwise the texture of the greens won't vanish (ewww). I have a Vitamix. It's over 20 years old, and works fabulous still. They are a solid investment.

For you, it's coffee. For me, it's bread. I don't touch it. Ever. I might have a little cooked something here and there (like, no more than one part of one meal, no more than once a week), but it cannot be wheat! I'm currently sitting at about 95% raw (since a few of the ingredients I use are not strictly raw, 100%)... but I'll allow a little steamed veggies on a rare occasion, etc. I thi

NOTE: Buckwheat sprouts, when they get rather grown, and buckwheat "lettuce", isn't good for you. I think I read that... on this forum? If you are looking for a good protein source, rather than trying to sprout a grain, why not try chia seed and or hemp seed? they both have great protein/essential fatty acid profiles. If you really want to eat quinoa, I think I'd actually cook it

I'd like to suggest that going Raw is not black/white, yes/no, all or nothing., Especially at the beginning, this is a process... you are transitioning into a raw lifestyle. Kevin Gianni has a book, High Raw, where he talks about starting out "thinking like a raw fooder"... in other words, add a lot of healthy, tasty raw food into your daily diet, and whenever you get hungry, ask your

I would suggest adding chia and/or hemp seed to your daily diet, either by throwing a couple of tablespoons into your smoothies, or sprinkling on a salad, or by, with chia seed, making 'pudding' by mixing with water and stirring/shaking for a few minutes. Chia seed, and hemp seed, are great sources of protein and omega 3 & 6, which are essential fatty acids. These make them great to base you

Ah, Southern California sunshine... many was the time I spent, as a youngster, crying in pain from massive, severe sunburns! I'm smarter now. I use coconut oil liberally, before and after exposure. I take Astaxanthin, which helps the body heal UV damage. I don't spend 'too much' time in the noonday sun (though, it is the noonday sun that provides the best Vit D. Paradox, that...), just

IMO, avocados are a great transitional food. I've heard of lots of new raw foodies that eat massive amounts of avocados (2 to 6 per day) at first, then, as they get more comfortable with being raw, and the light feeling it gives (not that heavy, tummy full all the time feeling that SAD gives), the desire/need for the heavy, fatty avocados diminishes. We are all a work in progress. Personally,

As I've been eating more and more raw food, the more I've noticed that I've become sensitive to salt. I generally cut salt in half for recipes. I only use natural himalayan sea salt, and not a lot of that, or Nama Shoyu, or occasionally Braggs. Over time, I've been cutting down, and down, and down... I do agree, a lot of the recipes seem a little over salted, or over sweetened.

Olympia, WA. We'd love to have a raw food place there! Portland, OR is also pretty good... there is a raw food place there, but it's a big city, it could use more. If you love a challenge, go ahead and pick someplace like Aberdeen, WA...

I read Victoria Boutenko's book, Green for Life. I'd flirted with raw for a few years. But until I read that, I never really put down the cooked vegan food and TRIED it seriously. I've been mostly raw (100% most days, 90% a few days, about 25% SAD for a week) since the beginning of February. I've dropped/released 40 pounds, and I look better I do have days when I want to order pizza (ve

Deer antlers fall off. Victoria Boutenko mentions in her books about how closely related we are to chimpanzies, who eat a few insects when they can get them... and she mentions that if there is a small bug or two that end up in her smoothies (from the organic greens), well, no real problem, really. I'm sure I've ingested a few bugs in my time. i wouldn't deliberately, KNOWINGLY, eat ants, a

I love coconut oil! I use it lavishly after being in the sun. And it is the best for my hair, too.

We've built a raised bed garden... out of concrete blocks! The holes make nice 'pockets' for flowers, herbs, etc., and the actual dirt is only 18" across, which means I can reach across it easily. We bought new blocks, but one could easily find salvage ones through craigslist or 2good2toss dot com.
