hey fuzzysox...personally, I don't think of it like that. I think its more a question of overall balance in the diet over time, ya know? Instinctively (or is it more by habit?) I eat more "yin" in the morning - early parts of the day, and more "yang" at night, but that's just me. Truthfully? I don't think in terms of yin and yang at all...lol, but then I don't consciously thin

Recently someone asked of this forum how to balance yin and yang on an all raw plant food diet. This has always interested me too, so I thought I'd share a few things that I've picked up in hopes that it will help others with these questions as well. First of all, the principles of yin and yang are pervasive. They apply all the way up and all the way down. Even a single carrot has a yin side (

Me too. Most fruits and veggies taste way better than they used to and most of the junk that I used to eat tastes like crap. Also, most cooked food makes me feel almost immediately dehydrated. anyone else experience this? khale

Yeah, but their "bottom-line" is unfortunate: "Our bottom line: Our digestive systems have their own enzymes; we don't need to get them from foods. The benefits of raw-foods diets—reduced cholesterol and weight control—can be achieved by eating more vegetables, fruits and whole grains, limiting foods high in saturated and trans fats, and using portion control." Having followed anakens' posts in the past I am confident that she has a reason for making this statement. I'm curious to know what it is. khale

Anaken wrote: "If you think that eating raw cereal in almond milk with a banana is a great way to start the day, power to you. My point was, a better option would be some oranges or grapefruit, followed by some oatmeal (boiled with water)" Why, anaken, would cooked oatmeal be a better option than a raw cereal of sprouted nuts and seeds in almond milk, with or without the banana?

159. Re: Skin!
Some sun would probably help a lot, but since you are short on that I'd recommend aloe vera. The juice of fresh lemon is also great for the skin, but you'd only use this once or twice a week. Also, coconut oil, the really good virgin coconut oil, is excellent for the skin and smells really good, but you may not like that heavy oil on your face. I typically use coconut oil on the weekends or at ni

The enzyme inhibitors are intrinsic to the nut, which means that you'd need to soak the nut, not just remove the skin, to release the inhibitors. khale

anaken wrote: "Also, my guess is leaving out overt fats (especially early on in the first years) would be a terrible idea" I would second that. For one thing, monounsaturated fats are proven helpers in burning excess fat from the body. Most of us, starting out, could stand to burn off some of that excess. For another, its just plain out too abstemious to restrict fat intake to tha

Not at one sitting, but throughout the morning (eating

There are at least two schools of thought represented on this board regarding natural sugars (found in fruit), and both are represented by rather passionate people, so ultimately you'll have to arrive at your own conclusions. I am currently eating much more fruit than I originally thought that I would (though I still tend to avoid it afternoons and evenings excepting orange and lemon juices fo

This IS a boon! It's gotten to the point where I'm shopping all over town for my weekly meals as I get better prices for some things at one place and better for others across town. With very expensive things, such as red bells, I allot less of it for any one meal. In other words one red bell will enhance four meals for me and that way I can justify paying over a dollar for it. Then I try

anaken wrote: "if you give something everything it needs it won't produce it on its own, kind of thinking (this applies to you folks taking enzymes! IMHO that is)" Interesting theory and probably true, but in the case of enzymes it doesn't apply as the enzymes we are allotted at birth do not regenerate and so live food is our primary source of enzymes - and then secondarily supple

I'd wager that EVERYONE on this forum was once carb addicted, and that a large percentage of us are still battling it (me! me!). As Fresh pointed out, in his own inimitable way, there is nothing unique in anything you've said. There needs to be a strong attraction to this diet and lifestyle, and even then, staying motivated is a full-time job - but this is true of any great, and difficult ende

I've finished my first read-through of David Wolfe's Sunfood Diet Success System and thoroughly enjoyed it. Mr. Wolfe has such a youthful and optimistic spirit that its hard to resist, and I like his approach to the diet with its emphasis on leafy greens and the balancing of food types with one another. He also devotes a large portion of the book to the principles of positive thinking, goal setti

my apologies for going too far off the original topic. I am no scientist or statistician, still I think it observably true that minorities of all stripes tend to be less represented in the raw food community, with the exception of women, who are very well represented indeed, and including those who earn below the poverty line. I don't see the harm in asking why this may be so. It is absolut

I don't agree. I think that race, cultural differences and genetics can be useful fields of inquiry regarding diet and other health issues in general. It is NOT racism to recognize that the American Indian is genetically and culturally predisposed to alcoholism, nor is it racist to recognize that the African-American is predisposed to high blood pressure. It is NOT mere profiling to recognize

Raw-dancer: Your past history with an ED IS a red flag for me as well. I don't think there is any way around that. I can understand why you wouldn't want a typical, mainstream, allopathic doc poking around an eating disorder in the context of a raw diet - as they will likely not GET THAT at all, but surely there is someone with a background in healing/cleansing diets who can assist you? I've d

178. Re: figs!
yeah dvdai, I don't know that I'd pay 18 a pound for figs. Luckily, the common variety fig tree is found abundantly in my state and it just so happens to be fig season as we speak. I picked a small container of the first of the ripe ones this past weekend and ate them for dinner; sliced and topped with a fresh, thick almond milk. so good. I don't think I've ever had fresh figs of any other
