Very, very good question that I've been asking myself lately. I think I could, but there wouldn't be the variety I enjoy now. We have lots and lots of pecan trees as an example, but I've never in my life seen any other nut growing on its own tree. But the vast majority of the foods I eat will grow in my state and the goal of eating as close to home as possible is one I'm definitely inter

you'll need to find "food-grade" essential oils. I know that Young Living Essential Oils carry many "food-grade" oils and you can find them on-line. Food-grade oregano you may be able to find at a health food store as its therapeutic use is well-known. I have a friend who is heavy into aromatherapy and essential oils and we were browsing Young Livings' catalogue recently an

I'd prefer to date someone interested in their own health in every way. Those who still lunch it at McDonalds just don't fit the bill. As I grow older partnership is more important than romance and a strong partnership requires lots of common ground. I don't think food choices are any different from any other. I used to drink like a fish and so tended to have imbibing boyfriends. These days

I'm a high-school drop-out too, but not in the last 20 years...arghhh! fancy schmancy restaurant cook - drunk and drug addict courier - sober tarotist (reader and workshop facilitator) - still sober domestic personal assistant - high on life student of nutrition and natural health - damned near blissful! khale

I bring chunks of melon whole small fruits (apples, oranges, cucumbers) nuts water and usually leave the house with a smoothie in progress I usually finish the workday by 3:00 P.M. so, I come home for "lunch" or grab a salad out somewhere. As Jody pointed out, its really not that different from packing lunch before raw. You'll see. khale

I hope that this will not sound insensitive to the ears of Highly Sensitive People, but I'm not a big fan of therapy. I LOVE psychology, self-help, personal development and all of that, but I personally think ones' own work on oneself is much more effective than hours upon hours upon hours of "talk" therapy. Just from my own experience. Someone should do a book on HUP (Highly Unusual

I cooked for a living for many years, so I'm pretty good with a knife, but to me a mandoline gives the most flexibility your money can buy. You can slice the zucchini as thin or as thick as you like and then use your knife to make either angel hair, fettucine, or "egg" style noodles as you wish. I've had zucchini "pasta" two nights in a row now; once with a red sauce and th

Interesting theory Betty. I scored a 14, but I don't consider myself a "highly sensitive person" really. I KNOW highly sensitive people and I tend to be the calm in their storm, BUT I am a classic introvert and the characteristics are indeed very similar. I require a lot of time alone, dislike large crowds, and tire easily in the company of others...But I have a very high pain thr

I often recommend Gillian McKeiths book, "You Are What You Eat" to ignorant (and by ignorant I mean not in the know concerning food and health), SAD eaters who inquire. Her book is an excellent introduction to the relationship between food and health for newbs. I think sometimes that many of us forget that not all people are foodies or health "nuts" like most of us are. The

133. Re: detox
hi applebaby...congrats on your transition. As already pointed out, a diet of predominately raw plant foods is already cleansing/detoxifying in and of itself, and unless you are ill or having some major health problems, there is no good reason to rush detox. Your body is constantly cleansing itself...its a self-cleaning system. Raw foods help in this process so that it (the body) can do what i

Hey O' Pakd4fun and I will be there! We are driving from Louisiana and will be camping at the provided campsite the entire weekend. (I must admit to envying you David the hotel..lol) We are also planning to tour the Grand Canyon! and to visit Santa Fe, NM. Excellent idea to organize a meet-up. The juice bar noon saturday works for me. We'll rally more support and interest as the Fest gets c

"but do you think sweet fruits like bananas will feed the bacteria?" No. Not if you are raw. If you are eating cooked chocolate, starchy, cooked carbohydrates AND bananas, then maybe...but then it wouldn't be the bananas - it would be the combination. Personally, I would add some spinach or cilantro, or other leafy greens to my banana smoothie to keep it balanced. Do you have a ju

"longjack"? hmmm. i like it already. low-energy, low self-esteem = low libido Suggest that he lighten up on cooked starchy carbohydrates. For stubborn SAD eaters, particularly male SAD eaters, it is easier to take them off of "starches" than meat and fat. And some nutrition experts (and that's raw experts too) say that starchy carbs, such as potatoes, and processed bread

I think that I know what you are saying, but some people place more emphasis on "viable/beneficial" than the ideal of 100%. It all depends on a persons' intentions and goals. Some people like to include herbal therapies and such with their raw diet and are actual

You could dice the MANGO, add some finely chopped CILANTRO, (some fresh lemon or lime juice would be nice), a touch of sea salt, and eat it rolled up in COLLARD leaves. You could make a nut pate' from your ALMONDS and CASHEWS and stuff it into CUCUMBER boats or eat it as a dip w/ sliced cukes, RED BELL PEPPER or roll it up in your GREEN LETTUCE leaves. This would probably be yummy with a fresh

soy milk is not raw. but you can make several types of nut and seed milks from raw nuts and seeds in a jiffy if you have a decent blender. It's just a matter of blending nuts and/or seeds with water and straining out the pulp. Easy and delicious. khale

Aerobic bacteria are bacteria that grow and live in the presence of oxygen. In order to increase aerobic bacteria in the body one needs an oxygen rich internal environment. Exercise is good. Oxygen therapies are available (you'll need to do your own research on this one...but some people actually ingest food-grade hydrogen peroxide for this purpose. Probiotics are helpful. I can clearly "hear" David Wolfe in everything she says. She even quotes him in the youtube videos on Superfoods as "a wise man". Yeah, being a "superhuman" is probably exhausting, I would think. I have a hard enough time maintaining simply human. But I like and admire them both, David Wolfe and Shazzie, and I understand them. Clearly most humans aren't living

Ask anyone the question, "Do you want to be healthy?", and I'll bet you no one will answer, "No." Then why are not more people healthy if a healthy body is an "over-riding vision"? Because the will alone is not sufficient to overcome the forces of habit, consensus, and social expectations

Both peridontal disease and "gaps" between teeth, ie, pulled or missing teeth, can cause floating teeth. This tends to happen as we age, the floating teeth I mean, if we have missing teeth in our head. You'll notice that they tend to be "moving" in the direction of a gap. In my opinion, this is a case for a good dentist. khale
