Regarding meat, how about the viewpoint that animals suffer and die unnecessarily when we eat meat? I'm not sure that any nutritionists these days will say that meat contains nutrients that a person can't get on a vegan diet - with the exception of B12. Didn't I read that you were back to eating meat? Did you change your mind? Hope so. Best wishes, -Ally

I figure the following 2 questions might be examples of what Nora is referring to when she says nobody can provide enough answers to germ-theory believers to make them see the light: 1. If there are no pathogens, just "eliminative symptoms", then why is it that ONLY people EXPOSED to ebola get ebola-like symptoms (like bleeding from the orifices), and ONLY people EXPOSED to leprosy

I agree with jono that chorella is a good source of iron. Also, seaweeds, sprirulina, and bluegreen algae. I suggest you read the label on those to see how much iron the designated serving size provides. In addition, one of the most concentrated sources of iron is unhulled sesame seeds. They are also one of the most concentrated sources of calcium. Sunflower seeds are also good for iron, b

NNNNNNarz, thanks for the link. I believe we do need to be informed. Sodoffsocks, you are so right! GMO is for Monsanto, not starving people! Longtimeraw, this is not a "hate" message. The simple fact is that the starving people speil that comes from the GMO companies is just part of a very organized and robust PR campaign. Golden rice is the poster child of the PR campaign;

Hi djatchi, Thanks so much for answering my questions. I think your story is absolutely fascinating, and very inspiring. I'm glad to hear you're doing so well. Cameroun sounds beautiful! Even though I personally find bananas to be very good and very healthy, I'm pretty sure I couldn't live just on bananas alone. I've always gotten along really well with fruit, better actually than with

As far as exercise or food,it all kind of seems to go together. If you are eating well, your energy level will be up, making you feel more like you want to exercise. And you will ENJOY exercising more. Then, if you exercise, you will feel more positive and more reinforced for making good food choices. Regular aerobic and/or strenous exercise without good food will surely help make you look

Hey djatchi, where are you from? Your background sounds really interesting. I can't help but be curious about how you happen to be on Wall Street when you came from a family that grows bananas, plantains, and rice. And you have a raw food diet too. That seems really unique, and I think you must have a lot of character. Personally I've never really cared for the taste of sprouted lentils, a

Yeah rawgosia, mmm bananas good! Bananas have always been a staple food for the Polynesians (along with coconuts, taro, and fish), and I'm very pleased to say they're a staple food for me. So djatchi, you think bananas are just for people who are too lazy to fix a "real meal"? LOL! Not everybody gets their bananas off those display trees at the store ya know. SOME people (incl

It may just be that once you learn something you're not supposed to go back. You're supposed to go forward. And it may be too that a lot of the real payoff comes as we get older. Maybe those beautiful people who eat "crap" might look good now, but maybe they won't look or feel so good when they're 50 or more. Maybe the toxins that cause that puffy look are just building up insid

Hi confused, What you're describing has certainly been my own experience. And I don't think it's all in our minds. For myself, I really do look a lot better on raw. No doubt about it. If you're having trouble staying raw because of cravings for cooked food, it seems to me there are usually 2 reasons for that: #1. habit. #2. deficiency. Most likely, the longer you work on it, the bet

I like bananas. I literally grow tons and tons of them. I eat them a lot because they're free. Bananas are one of the few SWEET fruits in the whole world that can be harvested all year (papayas, and maybe jackfruits and mamey sapotes can also be harvested all year, but there's not much else). That being the case, bananas are a staple food for many who live in tropical environment. Humans,

Recent studies are finding that alcohol kills brain cells - even just a little bit of alcohol. If that's true (and I personally believe it is), then even if you're not abusing it, it's abusing YOU! No offense intended to anyone who happens to disagree. Best wishes, -Ally

I really enjoyed my first juice fast. I'd probably do it now just using fresh squeezed organic fruit juices, but the first time I did it, I used mostly bottled juices and also some herb tea. It was great. Mainly my advice would be to stick with organic as much as possible. Also plan carefully for breaking your juice fast, because once you start eating again, you may find you have a BIG app

Hi alive!, I tried soaking the wild rice too, with the same results. I wonder if some brands are raw and some are not (?) Please let us know if you happen to find a legal source for unsterilized rice. I'd like to get some too! -Ally

Hi alive! and Funky Rob, According to the agricultural extension service in my state, and according to a phone conversation with a rep from Lundberg rice in California, it's illegal to buy and sell rice in the US unless it's been sterilized (that's why it won't sprout). Even certified organic rice is sterilized - probably by heating it, but DEFINITELY NOT by irradiating it since that's not al

My daughter-in-law is Japanese, born and raised in Japan. Her family grows all their own vegetables and rice, and her mother is an excellent cook. She says the Nama Shoyu and all the other shoyus are made from fermented, cooked soybeans; and she says the only difference between the Nama Shoyu and other shoyus is that the Nama Shoyu is not boiled (pasteurized) again after it is fermented, but the

I agree with summer that this forum is really helpful for staying raw. With winter coming on, I think it becomes a little harder to stay 100% raw - not just because there is less raw variety available, but also because maybe there's an instinct to eat more when the weather starts cooling off. So far I'm still staying 100% raw, and I think it's helping me that I've added sprouted wheat to my

Hi Rosemary, Have you tried calendula gel or calendula cream from the health food store? My grandson has exzema, and the calendula seems to work really well to prevent it and to heal exzema patches. It also helps keep down the itching. The calendula doesn't work so well if the exzema has become seriously infected. I think maybe the gel is a little stronger than the cream. That may be good

According to an article in Target News (July 11, 2005, by Jessica Fraser), a large amount of evidence is accumulating to suggest that exposure to the sun actually PREVENTS many cancers. The reasoning is that exposure causes our bodies to produce vitamin D3, which is not actually a vitamin, but a steroid hormone "that can drastically improve your immune system". D3 may also inhibit

I've been doing the yoga asanas (postures) about an hour every morning for 20 years this coming January. I learned yoga from Iyengar's book, Light on Yoga. I believe Iyengar is in his 70s or 80s by now, and he is considered by many to be the greatest hatha yogi alive today. His instructions are very clear and helpful and include even the breathing for each asana. In addition to the asanas,

Hi confuzed, It never hurts to be skeptical, and I'm glad you were, because it gave me the opportunity to post about organic rules! Keep in mind though that there is always such a thing as human error, and even human greed. If you see any produce in a store that's labeled organic, but you are suspicious about it, you do have the legal right to ask the produce manager to show you the certi

Hi LaVeronique, Once you're feeling a little better, you might consider starting some kind of regular stretching program. Almost every yoga posture stretches the back from some angle or another, and builds those muscles while using them in the stretch. Once those muscles have the ability to remain strong in a stretch, there is much less likelihood of straining your back from reaching or what

Hi LaVeronique, Thanks for the question. The reason the sign was in the produce section was that the people who worked in the store don't understand the rules. Unfortunately, many people who manage or own a health food store don't know anything about the rules for organic, and once false information starts going around, people pick up on it whether it's true or not. The rules requirin

Dear Confuzed, Please read what I wrote in Goldsplinter's recent thread, "Anyone notice the difference after turning to 100% organic..." I outlined some of the rules for organic certification on Goldsplinter's thread, because unfortunately, you are not the only one who is in the dark. I am a retired certified organic farmer (certified for 8 years) and a former treasurer for H

As a former treasurer for Hawaii Organic Certification Agency, and as a certified organic farmer myself for 8 years, I thought I should try to clear up some of the confusion about the labeling for "organic". FRESH RAW PRODUCE labeled ORGANIC is legally required to be grown 100% organically with no exposure to chemicals WHATSOEVER. Where the National Organic Program (NOP) rules tal
