Tonya had an eye job a while back. Her eyes were originally hooded. She had some skin removed from the upper lids. They are unusually and unnaturally rounded now. It looks like she also had something removed from below because there are different contours there now. It is normal to lose bony mass under the eyes, the eyes seem to sink inward with age. But hers seem to have become more promi

"twice a week by jogging or cycling at a moderately strenuous pace, equivalent to at least 65 percent of their maximum aerobic capacity for 30 minutes." I would guess you need equal time with weight-bearing exercise.

Tonya isn't overly active. Neither is she emaciated. I do not think she is very restricted. But she does practice sun protection. That makes a huge difference in the quality of the skin. It is especially evident in people over 40 and 50. I can't tell much from her videos as they are soft focus but from what I can see she is doing good things. I think that exercising is an essential component

Having nice skin in the 70s and 80s and beyond will be nice. All you have to do is use a broad-spectrum sunscreen your entire life (or close to it). If that fails you can do a deep peel or have some deep lasering. Problem solved! The more difficult problem is how to prevent bone loss in the face. The best skin in the world will not cover up the fact that one loses considerable bone mass in

Well, yes, they are selling something: a utopian ideal that doesn't exist. It is not food. It is more like a religion, an all-encompassing lifestyle. I think a lot of the prominent people start out with good intentions but it goes bad after a while. Some of them are really narcissistic, if not outright psychopathic. They are not so different--all cluster B disorders in DSM-IV, and if they a

Dr. Greger has on his site a video that suggests a link between the polyamines spermine and spermidine and cellulite. There is a partial database of the spermine and spermidine contents of foods in this (free) paper: And it seems to me that fruits are lower in these polyamines than vegetables (except for Mango, maybe). Legumes are fairly high in them. This suggests to me that Fruitari

I am still uncomfortable with making it a regular part of my diet. But I do it sometimes. A lot of the good stuff is in the fibers which are removed. I agree it's a good way to get more greens in your diet. But I don't like throwing away the pulp. (actually in my house nothing much is thrown away--it goes into the dogs' food). Also I think it's ok if you are already getting enough fib

Possibly relevant: I just watched a documentary titled "The Pervert's Guide to Ideology" narrated by Slavo Zizek. He had a lot of very interesting and provocative ideas about film as a compass for cultural mores. I recommend it if you like to think deeply. His accent and manner of speech are kind of hard to follow, though. Here is the script: I think his basic message is

I don't believe there is anything magical about achieving a particular macronutrient ratio. I do believe that there is something to be said for limiting excess fats. I am not convinced that there is a need to seek many fat sources far beyond one's requirements. Even relatively unprocessed monounsaturated fats are atherogenic. On a diet that limits fats deliberately, there are not many calor

We are supposed to exercise for 3 hours per day including weight-bearing exercise. That is what makes our bodies happy. Hardly anybody does. I feel that eating grains is not as bad as not exercising. But most people are living lives that do not allow for that kind of time investment. Ideally we'd eat right and exercise enough.

La Veronique! I lurked now and then. But my brain was too mushy to post. I was giving all of my intellect to my job. Now I can see that many of the people in highly visible positions are fighting and fragmented. There are huge egos at stake! I think a lot of people have emotional and financial investments that are resting on untenable positions. There is some ugly stuff. It is unfortunate b

>I think this forum is the premier raw vegan forum in the entire universe. I agree. CoconutCream is great! Prana is great! John Rose is great! And many others are also great! And also very handsome and/or beautiful on the outside, too! I used to post here a lot as Arugula. I learned a lot. Then I got busy with work. Now I am less busy with work and have more time to think about

> I have a negative body complex I don't know what this means but I don't like the sound of it. Was this reader lady's heart pure? Was she trying to sell you something? When I was younger I did not like grapefruit but now I crave it. Especially the ruby red ones. But the best-tasting one I ever had was a white one from a friend's backyard. Does this mean I have negative body complex,

I like to watch the videos of raw foodists who are working in their $50-$100K high-end kitchens with the gleaming granite or quartz countertops and their stainless appliances and their top-of-the-line cabinets, etc. Meanwhile my countertop is on its last leg (butcher block). Seams are splitting and the sink is pulling apart from the countertop. Wood is gorgeous and biodegradable but I killed i

I don't think he is dumb at all. I think he figured out a way to get a lot of money from dumb people--tell them what they want to hear. He is laughing all the way to the bank. I doubt seriously that he eats like that or believes 1/100 of what he writes. He believes in money, though!

I would not say science has lost its way, but I will say that there is a lot of corruption in the health field. In academia, it is publish or perish. If you receive funding from a lobbyist or some drug company, you have to write a paper showing that the thing they try to promote works if you wish to continue to receive funding. There researchers who have the luxury of doing something real

Some of them are getting frozen. Some get their whole bodies frozen, and others, just their heads. So yeah, some of them do have that intention. But mostly they are funding research projects that torture nematodes, yeasts, rodents, monkeys, and dogs. They are trying to figure out gene therapies or other things to make them live longer, and then trying to figure out if it works with people, too

I think there is great beauty in meeting all of your body's food needs. If you read the books available at the National Academies Press, they tell a beautiful story of how the RDAs were developed. It was a long, hard, thorny, and difficult road, full of countless researchers who devoted the best years of their lives in search of a way to make people healthier. Sometimes they go down the wron

Google just started a company called Calico to defeat aging and death. What do you do when you have more money than you could ever spend in a lifetime? Find a way to live even longer. I think they would like to have alternatives to eating well. But I also think that the smart ones are eating very high quality produce, and a lot of it. I doubt they are 100% raw or 100% vegan but I strongly s
