Matt Monarch wrote me an email in or around January of 2007, asking if he could sleep on my couch for a few days, because he didn't have money for a Hotel, as he passed through my city. 3 or 4 years later, he's claiming to be a multi-millionaire? That's an amazing success story, if it's true. He is a strange, strange cat. Bizarre in every way. I think the Raw Food World store is pretty g

I had to add "censored" back to my diet. Not in large doses, but I needed some. I decided it wasn't wise to be sticking to an unproven, dogmatic approach, just because a wrinkly old man with a chiseled chin told me so. I started on a raw food diet when I was 19 years old, and I'm 33 now. 14 years of little tweaks here and there with my diet. I was full-on vegan for the better p

I'm open to anything. I kind of have my doubts about the whole breathetarian thing, but anything's possible. If he found a way to harness the energy of the universe and transform/transmute it into fuel for his body, then that's amazing, and I'd love to see more.

80-10-10 is a high-energy, super cleansing diet, that will make you feel invincible for awhile. Maybe even have a run of several years. After awhile, if you're true to the diet, problems will manifest. You can choose to ignore them, or you can do something about it like I did. I'm unaware of any diet (besides a horrible fast food dominant diet) that ages you faster than 80-10-10. Not a good

Any sort of nut or seed messed up the entire diet of 80-10-10. Eating a handful of nuts will affect your next meal negatively. I avoided nuts and seeds completely, except in the case of flax/hemp oil, but only in the evening, AWAY from any carb meal.

Victoria's science makes no sense. Bless her heart, but she has zero credentials, and while she can talk from experience, any scientific information she throws at you is fluff.

Olive oil is good on a salad, away from carbs. Mix it with any sort of carb, and it becomes a BIG problem.

Protein powder after a workout = bad idea. Grapes. Eat grapes. The sweet varities. #1 food you can consume after a workout. Your body is CRAVING glucose, and grapes are loaded with it. Try grapes after every workout, and let me know your results.

I'm kidding of course, but that was certainly a dickish thing to write, in regards to a very minor typo.

Saw my name mentioned in this thread. Building muscle is pretty easy. Lift heavy weights and eat like a King. I think the whole protein debate has merit when you eat very little raw food, since cooking denatures protein. I see a lot of VERY skinny guys on a raw food diet (or fat ones, who are still shedding lbs from a previous faulty lifestyle). I see a lot of these guys in gyms trying

Pborst, First of all, sorry for the typo. I don't know what got into me. Secondly, I wouldn't mind punching you in the face, if I'm being honest. In fact, I'd really enjoy it.

I love the feeling you get off of any sort of fast. The freedom from digestion gives you so much mental clarity. However, I have the kind of body type, where I lose weight RAPIDLY with any kind of fast -- even a juice fast. The longest water fast I've ever done is a week, and I lost 16 lbs. Went from looking pretty good, to looking unhealthy. I felt great, but looked terrible. I think f

Rawpreston, When bananas are overripe, did you ever notice that they start to smell like liquor? They sugars RAPIDLY ferment once a banana gets ripe, so you have a pretty small window. Fermented foods are great, but not a high calorie fruit. Flooding your body with fermented fruit alcohols is a pretty nifty way to get sick. I consider bananas being overripe when they're heavily spotty an

I've had Raw Cacao Powder from Sunfood.com and compared that with Dark Cocoa Powder. MAJOR difference between the two. It was like the difference between eating a conventional waxed apple and an organic apple picked right off the tree. The best way to make cacao powder is to use a coffee grinder from raw organic cacao beans. But buying it pre-made is a lot more convenient, for sure.

I stay away from bananas these days. They're definitely best when a tiny bit spotty, but there's a very small window between them being underripe and overripe. When they're too starchy, they can cause a lot of digestive distress -- but when they're too ripe, they can really acidify your system and throw you out of balance. I found they're best avoided, unless they're red bananas or wild grow

I've never had success with Quinoa -- either cooked or sprouted. I find it terribly irritating to my digestive tract. But, everyone's built differently. If it feels right for your body now, ride it out. I'm sure further along in your raw journey, you'll likely change your stance. It's certainly a much healthier food than what the majority of people are eating, so you're on the right track.

BackAgain, what's the purpose of your fast? If you rapidly experience deficiency symptoms, then it's probably not a good idea to fast in a weakened state. Are you very thin? As a side note, you can do A LOT better than that Thor's Raw Power protein blend. Buy Nutiva's 50% Hemp Protein, and you have an even better formula than that Thor blend has. His protein blend is Brazil Nut Protein &am

I actually came across a Facebook ad, I think it was, that said "42-year old looks 20!" and it was a link to someone selling something. The guy obviously doesn't look 20. He looks every bit of 42. He just looks GOOD for 42. What I'd like to know, and I'm sure I already know the answer.... how long has he been on 80/10/10? I'm willing to bet he's a complete newbie (less than a few

Rawpreston, I wrote my problems with the 80/10/10 somewhere in one of these threads. I don't feel like going into it again. Do a search and I'm sure you'll find it. Mostly nerve-related problems, and feeling ungrounded, to the point of dysfunctional social isolation.

Oh, and I'm going to attend a Raw event this year, and I'd love to meet some of you. Especially those of you who I've been talking to for years now. What's the big one, and when is it? I've been kind of out of the loop.

Rawpreston, I can't figure out if you're just really curious, or if you're just trying to spark some kind of debate. I'm not interested in debating, friend. Just chatting with likeminded folks. You asked a lot of questions -- I gained the most muscular weight when I switched to the 80-10-10 diet, you're correct. In fact, gaining muscle was a snap on that diet. Eating tons of nuts, seeds,

Back when I was downing 50g of whey protein, 4x a day, I was taking in about 300g of protein per day. This was back a good 11 years ago, however. Forgive me for bouncing around with my weight gain numbers. I didn't write them down officially. Just jogged them to memory. All in all, I gained 45 lbs of muscle on raw foods, after I stripped my "cooked" weight off of me.

"The Fruitarian One" wasn't really a raw foodist when he started posting a lot of his pics online. You can tell when he really started getting into raw foods, because he kept getting skinnier and skinnier. Last I saw of his pics, he looks athletic and fit, but thin. Most raw food vegans tend to be emaciated, and/or extremely thin. I find that most raw foodists switched over becaus

Peder, I switched over to raw foods, from a typical "bodybuilder" diet, so I know what it's like to be concerned about the weight you're losing. In Fact, I went from 200 lbs (with 6% bodyfat), down to 155 at one point! Lost 45 lbs of MUSCLE on a raw food diet initially. What helped me, was finding what raw foods agreed with my digestive system. Smoothies are your best bet for

I was VERY successful short-term on 80/10/10. In fact, my testimonial is featured in the 80/10/10 book. Unfortunately, the long-term benefits didn't match up with the short-term benefits. I suggest 80/10/10 for short durations (Training for a competition, overcoming an illness, a true cleaning program, overcoming candida, etc), but then switching back to a more rounded, balanced approach a

I got the information from Calcium partially from the book, but also from other research I've seen from a bunch of sources. To Horsea, it doesn't matter if you're healthy or not, ingested calcium doesn't do much in the human body, other than causing problems -- especially in large doses. If you're sick or not vitally healthy, then calcium is the least of your concerns. The focus should alw
