I think fruit is not the problem, just the mistaken belief that unlimitted and extreme amounts of fruit can be eaten just because fruit is '' natural '', easy to get and simple to prepare, to the detriment of not eating other foods. Small, medium or even large amounts of fruit ( at the approppriate times and for a limited number of people ) seem to be ok in conjuction with a healthy balance

Madinah, there is a difference between a cleansing diet and a long term sustainable diet.People go to health farms and fast, or go on juices and also have really good results.Everyone who goes on restricted diets for a time improves. If you go from a bad diet to a better diet you always improve. The problem arises when the pepole think that becasue they have gotten better they have found the optim

I have eaten fruit and avocados straight from the tree and straight off the ground. I've eaten both tropical fruits ( bananas, papayas, jackfruit, etc.) from organic farms, and apples, pears, apricots, etc. straight from the tree and the ground, and I can tell you that there is more to good health than just food - even tree ripened fruit. I think good quality raw vegeies are more of an issue than

Jalan, what can they say? Most people know very little and just repeat what they hear. In any case, I have learnt a long while back not to discuss, debate, argue or voice my opinion about diet, health, raw foods, etc. with people unless they are interested or want to know. I just keep quiet. On a board like this it's different because we all have the same interests.

If calcium was as simple as having dairy then no one in the western world would be calcium deficient or have osteoporosis. We have an abundance of milk, cheese and yoghurt and just eating it doesn't translate into calcium. I am not in any specific camp any more, but I always ask the calcium dairy people where do the elephants, rhinos, hippos, gorillas, oxen, horses, etc. get their calcium fro

Clank72, I think you are doing fantastically well if you are able to have 5 raw healthy days and then treat yourself the other two days. Why gorge yourself and have 4 tacos. Why not just have one or two tacos every few days and enjoy them and give the chips a miss. Believe it or not, a lot of us were like you at one time or another beating ourselves up if we couldn't be 100% raw. Now I'm only

Natural fruit is natural, but commercial fruit isn't natural. It's bred for it's sugar content and without much fibre which is an integral part of the fruit in nature. Also, if you add the fertilisers from the petrochemical industry as well as being picked unripe there is no guarantee that the fruit is natural, unless it's grown in good soil, and even then it might lack the necessary fibre. The f

To simplify things from a natural health perspective, the simple / simplistic answer would be for your friend to do a combination of the following for 2 -4 weeks and see how she goes; 1. water fast 2. fresh fruit and vegie juice fast ( or diluted with water ) 3. fresh juicy fruit. That should give an indication of where she is at, although we don't know her age, if it's a one off or a conti

Pborst wrote '' generally heavy metals are not a problem in sea vegetables ''. I can't see how anyone can make such a general sweeping statement. For sure in times gone by that was an accurate statement, but nowadays all big cities have sewage outlets where they discharge their effluent. Also, our oceans are big garbage dumps with plastic and whatever is being thrown overboard,as well as the

Being muscular and strong doesn't necessarily equate with living a long life - or being healthy. Many physically fit people drop dead when they are relatively young. On the other hand, being a fat slob isn't a good advertisement for anything. I know young people say ' I'm not worried about how long I live ' , but let's see if they think the same when they get a bit older. For many of us it's n

If vegan diet means going back to nature, how does it equate with sitting in front of a computer, having hot showers, and using electricity generated from coal or nuclear generated electricity which pollutes the planet? Maybe you should find out where your electricity comes from and cut off your electricity. Does it mean eating bananas and other tropical fruits that were grown in far away places

The issue with Graham is that he is recommending his 80/10/10 as the optimum diet for everyone - not just athletes and the super fit who can handle the sugar and are able to eat the volume required and stretch their stomach beyond their normal capacity and still be ok.

Sea vegetables were a big thing in the 1970's, as well as sprouts. We ate dulse and used kelp powder. We also ate alfalfa, mung bean and sprouted soy beans, but for most people they weren't a panacea or a magic bullet, and were of little benefit overall, so it's interesting to see it's now the new in thing - again. Having said that, i have just been to my local HFS and they have dulse in packa

John, you say were are designed as Plant Eaters. DO you believe we Were designed by a creator, or that we have evolved as a plant eater, keeping in mind that there was no other option? I don't know about Chris, but I believe in fasting and juicing, provided people know what they are doing. I also believe in raw cleansing diets and raw diets if they are done correctly ( and that's the problem

Hi John, I'm ready for your challenge, but firstly, are you talking about real people living in the real world as opposed to living in a fantasy world, a tropical paradise where we would all like to be living? Are you talking about people living in the cold Northern and Southern temperate zones where it snows and it's very very cold? Are you talking about people who grew up in cities and h

Angelina Jolie just had a double mastectomy so she doesn't get breast cancer? Some others are coming out - even at 29, to admit to the same procedure because they had a certain gene which the medical fraternity tells them predisposes them to breast cancer!! and the general population thinks it's ok. No wonder it's such a sick world.

Panchito, The rules of the forum are, 1. It's a 100% vegan forum. 2. It's a 50% / 60% + raw food forum. It's not an exclusive 100% raw food forum, so to attack people who don't advocate 100% is not abiding by the rules of the forum.

Panchito, all I asked was a simple question. How long have you been successfully 100% raw? Rather than going on about whether it was about you or not, all you had to do was say 1 year, 5 years, 10 years, etc. What is there to hide? If you have been 100% raw for many many years then we can respect your opinion. The reason I ask is that we see the same pattern over and over. You have 5 minute ra

IN an ideal world no one would be drinking coffee, but we don't live in an ideal world. Some people can drink one or two coffees a day and it doesn't affect them, for others it does and they don't have any. It depends on how it affects you, but it doesn't seem to be compatible with a raw diet as the nervous system becomes extremely sensitive, and the hit of caffeine is such a shock to the system

As far as i am aware, this is a raw vegan site, not an exclusively 100% raw vegan site -at least that was how it was in the past. Unless Prana states otherwise, or states that any mention of cooked food is forbidden, then people wanting to eat a 100% raw or mainly raw vegan diet are still welcome here. Just because a diet is 100% raw vegan doesn't make it a healthy diet. The simplest and easie

Panchito, you are talking about a ' fantasy ' reality. How many people coming on this board live in the tropics? How many of them have had ancestors who have been eating 100% raw fresh natural food from rich soils forever? People on this board are real people who have been eating cooked foods since their birth. Their ancestors have been eating cooked foods for thousands of years. Many people nowa

Where is the fourth column - omnivores? We aren't eating raw meat or whatever? We have knives and forks. We can eat mostly 100% raw and a small amount of fired food, and that experiment has produced many healthy long lived people. Animals can't do experiments and check the results. What if eating 90% of raw and 10% of '' fired foods '' leads to a healthier longer life, does that mean it's wron
