So, I have a cold, and my mom whipped out this book "The Doctor's Book of Food Remedies". The first food it suggests is yogurt! Specifically the Stonyfield brand because Lactobacillus Reuteri has been added to it. Then it goes on to list various fruits and veggies. What do you guys think? I looked at the Stonyfield yogurts in the health food section of Fred Myers today just on a whim

Anyone have experience with these manual juicers? Am looking at both models the J210 & the J500 I'd love to hear about it if so.. And even if you have not, any thoughts? I was considering the Olympus Citrus Press Juicer but I don't know, the reviews are mixed (on discount juicer and amazon.com).

Check out the Blendtec Total Blender Designer Series. I LOVE the interface and how slick it all is, easy to clean carafe, even the base is easy to clean (no physical buttons), This unit is definitly rocking in convenience and design/minimalism/functionality. My only grips is the lid, I don't like the hole in the lid and the plastic piece that fits in the hole gets stuff inside of it. I'm not c

I'm pretty agravated about this splashing effect too, but on the flip side the blendtec design does a good job of getting food down to the blades. I recently bought the designer series model from Blendtec. I'm utterly in love with it, except for the lid. The lid is awful, it's got this gigantic hole with a gripper that fits on top, there are tons of nooks and crannies in this piece for the conten

Hey all, Wondering if anyone has suggestions on a re-usable solution to storing juice & snacks so that it lasts longer (or something similar). Am open to suggestions. A friend of mine who homebrews puts a gas in the bottles, apparently the gas is heavier than air, so it displaces oxygen. But uh I'm not too keen on buying tanks of this gas (I forget which gas) and letting that interact w

Hi all, I'm looking at the EasyGreen automatic sprouters right now to help bump up my nutrition intake and lower the cost of buying sprouted goods such as Wheatgrass at my local store. I'm looking at this because I've never grown anything before. My mom has a raised bed garden in the backyard but it's as far as it gets from the house, and Winter is coming. I like the idea of starting my own ga

@Vegmichelle Huh, have not seen celery with roots yet. I'll have to try that sometimes. @ Workoutman, Yeah, probably not a big deal. @ coco I'm just starting to warm up to celery, it's weird to me to like it now, I think my taste buds are changing from eating more fruits/veggies & my new found love of red peppers (both kinds) and salsa.

Hey guys, This is a silly question, but I read somewhere that Celery is one of the more powerful natural agents for pain relief, and good fiber. Anyways, been making it a point to buy them regularly and I've been munching on them, I'm chomping on one now actually. Thus far I've avoided eating the base of these stalks, the white parts. I'm wondering though, is that the nutritionally good stuff

Order placed for the Sedona. Got an additional $10 off with the youtube promotion code. Kinda neat since the promotion does not apply to the Excalibur and other big ticket items. The only thing that creeps me out is the warning about dehydrating meat, but I don't see myself dehydrating meat often, if ever. I'll take my chances and give this a try. Apparently the Excalibur heat fluctuates from

I'm in the market for a dehydrator as well. I think I'd like to get the Sedona 9 tray, the design has me sold. Since black Friday is almost upon us, anyone know where I would most likely be able to get this baby? Has Tribest done black Friday deals on their products before?

@ BannanaWho I can just add the acv to my green smoothies. So it's like why bother with buying a booklet which I assume has some recipes for using the acv. Thanks for the input all. If the booklets are cheap enough I might check em out just for the heck of it.

Hey all. So I'm just wondering what your experiences & opinions are with Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar in general. Please include how long you have used it when you post. I got a small bottle and am going to experiment. Do any of you drink it straight? Otherwise what is your approach to drinking/eating this stuff. I am reluctant to buy the Bragg informational books when I'm already makin

I'm in Oregon =). There's only one health food store here - Lifesource in Salem the capital of Oregon. I know of two whole foods stores in Portland but yeah that's 45+ minutes drive. Some other stores here in Salem carry organic stuff though like Fred Myers. Should start paying attention to the bulletin boards for co-ops in the area.

Wow. I'm glad I came across this thread. I just discovered mejool dates and am soooo addicted now. Have only been eating them for about a week and a half now. It's like eating honey but in gummie format! Found out they're in the bulk department at my health food store. I've lost some weight and I was already skinny to begin with, so I could use a little more, but yeah I will try to eat more o

Looks at Corathegreen like she's nuts… =P =D. It will be awhile before I part with pizza entirely. I used to live on pizza. I have it far less often now, and I prefer the thinnest crust and more tomato sauce, veggies. I think this is one thing I can't change cold turkey and maintain that indefinitely.

I agree somewhat with Syadasti to some extent but not entirely about the tamper being a crutch for what could be a better designed carafe and vortex. A tamper is probably not necessary if you put things in as you go if you do things in the correct order and in stages. But if you fill up your carafe with dense nutritious food, I have a hard time believing that a blender in the half a grand price r

Yeah like WY said don't get a two speed blender. It is incredibly annoying to have the ingredients splash to the top of the carafe. This means some things like greens get stuck up there and don't get blended. Low to High is easy enough to do on a Vitamix, you don't have a choice if you get a 2 speed blender tho. If it were me shopping for a blender now, I would stick with the Vitamix I have no

I hear you on the pulverizing cell phones hah. It's just amusing advertising. Both Vitamix/Blendtec will result in smooth green smoothies. I think the higher mid range will too but the question is for how long and how much of a hassle is it to do it, will it over-blend the ingredients? The Vitamix Blendtec blenders design don't rely on sharp blades apparently since ice will take away from that so

As far as I can tell they are considered great entry level juicers. Some think it's better to try one of these first to know if they want juicing as part of their lifestyle, then upgrade to a better one. Others would argue that getting a better juicer to begin with would save cash in both cost of the machine and the better juice yield (less waste of produce). The biggest feature of the Jack La

So I picked up some lemongrass, at wholefoods yesterday. Never worked with em before, so I looked em up online. Sounds like part of it is not edible so I want to know more, I had a horrible experience overdosing on ginger a month or two ago so I want to play it safe with the lemongrass. I was thinking it would be better to juice the lemongrass than to blend, but I'd like to know what I need to

Sounds like you've made up your mind to not go for the most expensive blenders. If that is so give it a shot and let us know how you like it. Seems rational going for the next step down from supposedly the best blenders on the market for consumers. I think a number of Vitamix/Blendtec owners wonder if the cost of their blender was really justified even if they do well with harder to blend ing

Coco you're making me want to try a blendtec lol. I wish they had demos where they didn't present, just let people use the top 5 consumer blenders and the top 5 commercial blenders themselves. I'd like to see what the Blend Station Advance or the Quiet One is like in person. Like so see how the Warring blenders do too (the commercial ones).

Paul summed it up well. Don't underestimate the tamper on the Vitamixes tho. Watch this video: How to Make Energy Soup with Kaelash Neels at the Ann Wigmore Institute in Puerto Rico, if you're trying to pack a bunch of good stuff in your blend, it really helps. It's basically plastic, and it's cheap: is hollow inside, but it helps me out a great deal when it comes to avoiding over blending.

Sure, let me know how the Oster works out for you, hope you are satisfied with the purchase. I love my Vitamix don't get me wrong. Considering what I put in my blender I think it serves me well. My experience with immersion blenders w/ prep attatchment and an older Oster model is what prompted me to get a Vitamix. Regardless, a high speed blender is a high speed blender. BTW I believe the ice
