I think cooked foods have their place as do raw foods. Raw foods as Cook & Potter suggest have a much stronger association with cancer prevention than cooked foods do. That said, baby, bathwater. querticin lycopene, other nutrients are better absorbed cooked than raw. ... ouch... whoops I just got hit in the head with a biophoton but I'm still not crazy enough to vote Republican. if you are under $500, get a Dynablend and an Omega 8004. If I were limited to $500, I would put the blender and juicer ahead of the dehydrator, food processor and stand mixer (all of which I own)... and make good. Juicer and blender first. Everything else is secondary. And now I will not show a gratuitious picture of David Wolfe just to piss off Harley..... you can thank me later.. } Pau

I'm afraid I'm going to have to take Chris's side in this though he once raked on me. Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina, two Canadian vegan RDs have written a book called Becoming Raw in which they look at the pros and the cons . And cooked food has its place. It enables eating some foods that could not otherwise be eaten by humans (e.g. most beans except lentils and mung beans and another few

decide on a budget, get both a juicer and blender. If you decide you have a price point, let us know your budget. If you have $1000, get a Vitamix and an Omega 8004 (less than $1000 total). Tried and true and you'll keep them for 10 years plus with the Vitamix under warranty 1/2 that time and the Omega all of that time with 5 years to go. Just my thought. It should never be juicer vs. b

Thanks John for clarifying. I purchased my Super Angel through Harvest Essentials some years ago. I registered mine through US Juicers.com and have purchased two additional juicing screens, a blank plate and a fruit screen with larger holes for about $400. I ordered the additional screens from USjuicers.com. I have spoken with reps from US juicers.com over the phone regarding both the product

If I wanted to go with a blender with a glass carafe, I would go with a Tribest Dynablend for $189. John Kohler has a good video about the pros and cons. I'll stick with Vitamix.

That information is not correct. The company offers a 1 year warranty (in the US) on screens, and I have seen no wear on my screen at all in the time I have used it. It offers 10 years on the motor, augers (twin gears). See page 20. Most of the wear is going to be on the augers and motor which are fully covered for 10 years. It's true John has had issues with the company. I haven't and

Agree with Sproutarian man, for me it's the Super Angel. No BPA contact surfaces, high yield, easy to clean, complete stainless steel, 10 year warranty. Except for price, it's just about perfect. I think if it were under $700 it would be. At $1000 it's a very good juicer but not a value. At $700 it would be a value.

Thoughts on oil, there are some definite negatives to oils in general compared to high fat whole foods like olives, avocadoes, nuts and seeds. The oils have no fiber and are more calorically dense. But is abstenence better than moderation or a low limit? The dose makes the poison, right? What is the trade off? What are the pros of oils to help assess it in context instead of just looking a

It's November 2013 and I still use my Super Angel 5500 daily. It was $1000 when I bought it, and the best the $1000 I've ever spent, ever. The pulp is Norwalk dry, the company solid, the cleaning easy. This is a no brainer. If you want a premium no plastic juicer, get the Super Angel. You will not regret it. Paul and yeah it's still better than the Green Star Elite and worth the e

Vitamix has issued a voluntary recall for its low-profile 64 oz carafe that is used in the Vitamix Pro 300 and Vitamix Prof 750. Click on the second link below to learn whether or not you are affected. The first link is just a news story from the Consumer Product Safety Commision, the second is Vitamix's link to learn more about the recall. 18 blade breakages have been reported but no injuries. T

I don't think I said sea vegetables were 100 percent ok (hijiki, arsenic, remember???). Or that fruits and vegetables were generally "deficient". There are lead and cadmium in some sea vegetables. But in reviewing the literature on hijiki, the authors I looked at said that the arsenic in hijiki was something of an anomoly in that generally heavy metals were only present in trace leve

Generally, heavy metals are not a problem in sea vegetables. Arsenic in hijiki is the exception. Back in 2004, the Canadians and the British issued warnings on hijiki consumption based on high levels of inorganic arsenic above daily safety tolerances. It's too bad because hijiki had a very mild flavor. I use arame instead now. It's similar and is even milder. I talked with Chris (powerl

If reading about sea vegetables has taught me anything, there is both promise and peril and one really needs to know what one is doing with these magnificient foods. To assure adequate iodine intake from a natural whole food source, I use dulse flakes two to three times per week and then check once a year or more if needed on my blood levels and thyroid levels using directlabs.com My f

A friend of mine on DrFuhrman.com was kind enough to forward us a new beta version of a juice calculator. You just select the fruit or vegetable you want to juice put in the quantity and it will give you the nutritional value of the juice. You can add ingredients with different sizes. It will tell you the pulp value as well. What I do not understand is how they know which nutrients w

I think my main concern about poppy seed sprouts is the concern about poppy seeds. They can cause false positive results on drug tests due to small amounts of opiods. Not enough to get you high but enough to cause a false postive result . Also, you do need some science to show that it helps with anxiety.

I support pot legalization. That said, if you are working at a job or driving after toking, that puts you at risk. I agree with Raw Lion and other commenters that a holistic approach is the best way to address anxiety.

Clank, I think you have to make up your mind about your situation. I'm not pushing supplements. The article I attached discusses yoga, and some other things you have tried. The question you have to ask is whether or not just eating healthy in and of itself it going to treat anxiety? Eating healthy is essential. But you have indicated you have already tried meditation, and exercise which

It's not all or nothing. The whole point of the integrative management of anxiety article I attached is that the author. Dr. James Lake, is that he looked at both medicinal, herbal and other therapeutic approaches, e.g. yoga. Fwiw, kava is not a drug but an herb, one used by South Pacific islanders for a long time without reports of adverse effect. Theanine is a non-essential amino acid natur
