To me the germ "theory" is like the "theory" of evolution. What distinguishes fact from theory is weight of evidence. And the weight of both "theories" belies them as fact. When my father was growing up in the 30s, polio and iron lungs were "aids" of their day. TG for Jonas Salk. Mumps, rubella, rabies, measles, chickenpox, TB (now enjoying a resurgen

Emphasis low oxalic acid greens such as romaine, broccoli, kale, collards, arugula and limit high oxalic acid greens like chard, spinach and beet greens to no more than 1/3 of total greens. Shouldn't be a problem.

Hmmmm... tough for me to believe not meant for humans when they have sustained human growth and development throughout the neolithic era for the last 10,000 years, albeit in cooked form. A little barley, wheat or rye sprouted on a salad or manna bread is fine. I think it's better to have a little diversity in your food choices. That said, I agree it's not essential. I think you are corr

I prefer and purchase organic produce whenever I can. That said, it's a shame if the perception is that trace amounts of pesticides that may be present in conventional produce poses enough of a risk to increase cancer risk. Just to state the obvious, conventional produce also contains the important phytochemicals which there is data to show protects against cancer relative to those who eat less

I usually eat them as bread. But could sprinkle them onto a salad, I agree those, if in a salad just sprinkled. The sprouted themselves are soft and a little sweet. But best used sparingly if not in bread. Also, the window for getting sprouted without fermentation or grassy taste is pretty short. If the sprout gets much longer the grain, it's probably not going to taste good even in bread

yeah, sprouted kamut & rye for manna bread. Sprouted quinoa (not really a grain) for salads. Sprouted lentils (7 grams of protein per cup) and mung beans (3 grams of protein per cup). Obviously, except for the kamut and rye, these aren't grains. but some have included these in the thread, so thought I'd.

So a couple of the other threads got into personalities, I wanted to get back to Prana and John's original purpose here which is us to share our journey as vegans, raw and otherwise. I had a post on the other thread. To paraphrase, I think not looking backward but just looking at options available to you now, that veganism is entirely sustainable and solid and healthy period. As long as

I want to ask a slightly different question than BWs. Is veganism a sustainable, safe and ethical choice for today, irrespective of whether it is "natural" or not? I don't want to be beholden to the past. I'd like to make my best chess move now for the planet, animals and myself. Why should I care about whether or not I can exist on vegan diet without supplementing, when I can s

To get back to BWs original question, having read Brenda Davis, Vesanto Melina, Jack Norris, and Ginny Messina, four reputable vegan RDs, there is no question that a well planned vegan diet, raw or not, is sustainable. I agree with PL that some nutrients are more difficult to get on a vegan diet. However, if you plan well, many or most can satisfied with whole food sources or some exposure t

My continuing concern about spriulina is the risk of cross contamination from non-spirulina blue green algae. Cyanotech and Earthrise are the main providers of quality spirulina that Julie Daniluk has mentioned in her recent article. Both companies have heavy metal specs for lead, mercury and cadmium. Now, if they have something comparable for qa/qc for cross-contamination, you have my atten

I wouldn't go under $200 though myself other than the Dynablend. I think you are just wasting your money. Waring, Omega, Breville all make some wonderful blenders in the $200 to $350 price range. I wouldn't trust Ninja as far as I could throw it. . I know Henry sells Vitamix but I think he has some valid points.

Lots of well meaning folks support a whole food plant based diet. John Rose, I challenge you to clearly explain in plain english what a "biophoton"diet is???? with references. why is this diet different than 80-10-10 or McDougall or a basic raw food vegan diet? Put up what the hell are you talking about??? What is the comparative advantage? Where are your data? Please provi

ok... you don't believe in a right left paradigm when it shuts down the government for two weeks and you don't believe in peer reviewed trials? Have I got it right?? All right. Umm... since you are the center of truth. go forth and shine John. I'm done pissing in the wind . Paul

John, Provide peer reviewed scientific prospective cohort trials or randomized clinical trials showing the value and human need for biophotons. Studies done on humans with or without loadings. Also please provide food stuff and life style factors the produce these and link them to disease states or anti-aging benefits. Be specific on outcomes which should be final outcomes (mordibity and mo

supplements have their place. B-12 for vegans Vitamin D for just about everyone. They are gap fillers. Nature doesn't provide everything we need without crap in whole plant foods. There are gaps and that is what supplements are for. Paul

No luck, it's a memory issue for sure. here is what I got back, one response... one. "I'm pretty sure that this error is not happening for all of you - or you've got a long userlist to be loaded. If its not happening for all of you then that given user has many private messages and that makes the server run out of the allowed memory for php. So, the easiest solution would be, to cont

The microplane gloves don't interfere with dexterity. They fit tight. If you don't make a mistake, you are golden. If you make a mistake, they will keep you from getting cut. I use them for all knife work and all mandoline work. It's a great precaution and contrary to the opinions above, is strongly recommended. I do not see a down side unless you are so confident in your knife skills and

They work. They aren't cut proof but are cut resistent. They will keep you out of the emergency room or urgent care if you have a slip. I still use mine daily as I do my mandoline and cutting board. Most chefs don't use them on cutting boards, but I do and I'm not a chef. Why? If I'm distracted I only have one set of fingers and unlike sharks teeth, they don't grow back. Paul

I've fasted for 14 days on water only in September and it saved my life. Blood pressure drops like a lead weight and it helps me to reset mentally and physically. I learned from Fuhrman and proceeded slowly...monitoring my electrolytes. I also got the DVD from Dr. Klaper who works at True North in Santa Rosa CA, the only medically supervised fasting program in the US to my knowledge (by MDs).

yeah right John. Keep going with them biophotons while the struggle continues I think the short answer is you have no authority for any of your assertions. Chris has screened them and you've come up short. Good enough. If you are still in Ralph Nader in 2000 look what 8 years of 2000 cost us. It's not a left right paradigm... it's our kids including mine. I do not give one rat's ass ab

Agree with not labeling... we can agree to disagree. As I do about the value or lack there of on cooked foods. I'm still in complete agreement on the value of raw vegan foods and the necessity of their predominance in eating for health. Does that mean 100%? Look at the data, reflect on your experience personally and make a decision. paul

Having a mix of cooked and raw food is better than just eating 100 percent raw food. I personally think it's decidely raw for the overall but no cooked at all... not for me.
