Clank, For periodic anxiety attacks or situations you know will be anxiety causing ahead of time, two supplements - kava and theanine - have been shown to be as effective as prescription drugs without the side effects. This article by Dr. Lake will provide better context. Dr. Lake also mentions yoga, mindfulness and meditation training also. I have used both kava and theanine per

Absolutely, it's fine. - The truth is though that very little of pesticide residues in conventional food exceed safety tolerances, less than 0.27 percent according to the most recent 2011 data from USDA's Pesticide Data Program. And that 0.27 percent is before washing. - Also the most current and comprehensive review of studies done on comparing organic and conventional food finds no nutr

David, I have both the blank plate and soft fruit plate. If you have to choose between the two, go with the soft fruit plate. There are some items like tomato, kiwi, other, where you get more of a nector than a juice where the large holes are better and the regular screen could clog. I have used the blank plate to make nut butters and sorbet and it works well for me. But to be perfect

The short answer is that vegan by definition is does include ingestion of animal products. Honey is an animal product. I do not know how more simple you could make it. Honey is a popular divertion from veganism. Many bee-guns are still kindred spirits. Victoria Moran, Raw Judita, John Kohler. But eating an animal product precludes one from being a vegan, at least during the period one eats

I don't know about green beans specifically but trust Prana's experience. I tend to think of green beans as veggies rather than legumes though clearly they are. It's other types of legumes and beans such as kidney beans, navy beans etc that have the high trypsin inhibitor count.

lentils and mung beans are safe to eat raw. Most other legumes are too high in trypsin inhibitors, anti-nutrients, that cause nausea and other side effects. Chickpeas are on the fence but contain higher levels of the trypsin inhibitors than mung beans and lentils.

so much for agreeing to disagree. But I am in awe. Such "fair and balanced" sources as Fox News and Redstate. You must be correct!

I don't mind agreeing to disagree. There are other things we undoubtedly agree on. And I have said my peace.

Mindy, soymilk, flaxseed, and cruciferous vegetables are all great foods that help metabolize extra estrogen that may cause hot flashes. My wife, 49, was suffering horribly from night sweats and hot flashes and could not sleep. While the foods I mention helped, they did not help enough for her to sleep regularly. On advice from a friend, we bought Estrovera from Metagenics. The science lo

Because they know they cannot win national elections anymore with the browning of America, Republicans turn to gerry mandering, voter suppression and Super Pacs to try to take by force what they cannot achieve through the democratic process. Having only one presidential election since 1992 where they won the popular vote and witnessing demography going against them, Republicans hope to intimidat

Mindy, I know I sound like a broken record on this on the board. But, honestly if you are looking for a primer or some authority for the advantages of a raw vegan diet, my recommendation is to start with the 2010 book, "Becoming Raw" by Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina, two vegan RDs. It's full of authoritative well researched information and in my judgement the best single book pr

Point taken, still, the Waring is priced like a Vitamix with a 3 year warranty to Vitamix's 7. More power doesn't always equate to better performance. When Kohler tested more powerful Omega blenders to the Vitamix, the sharpness of the blade and design was the determining factor. The Waring is a fine blender I'm sure. It appears to have a pulse button, critical in my view. And lots of power

But then there is the MMA quandry. Can the active Vitamin B-12 in mushrooms reduce MMA. Perhaps if you don't like taking supplements, these mushrooms could be a new part of your nutrient coverage along with nutritional yeast (Red Star enhanced), chlorella and possibly with regular MMA testing. In spite of the discovery which I plan to use as more of a talking point against the claim that &quo

Apart from never seeing either black trumpet or golden chantrelle mushrooms at Wegmans, WF, MOMs or any other health store I go to, there is still the MMA problem. This is a step in a chain. There is confirmed active Vitamin B-12 in plant foods. I actually don't think this is that new. I think chlorella & purple laver may have had it beat by a few years. SEE PART 2 POST

It is sad. Give it to me raw and Gone raw are both gone. Thankfully we have here. In spite of the rhetoric, Rawfoodtalk.com is a very poor raw vegan site where every post is micromanaged to the point of nausea. That's Alisa Cohen's site. Prana and John do a much better job here of balancing freedom of expression and anarchy than Alisa has ever done. I don't know some of the other sites fol

Tam, I don't use the gloves all the time. If I'm using a guide on a mandoline for instance. But I use it for all high risk situations. The original examples of a mandoline without a guide or a cleaver to wack a young thai coconut can be high risk and the glove brings that down. I agree that carelessness is a major cause of accidents. But even so, you can still get cut if you are caref

you keep asking why we keep disagreeing on things. I would put to you Henry at this particular time that you are baiting me, and I'm not taking the bait. Best. Paul p.s. most skilled chefs and foodies don't need this glove for regular board work. when the board work changes... then that's a different matter. Everyone who picks up a knife assumes the risk.

John Kohler's experience with Waring blenders appears to be different. . Says Waring can blend ice but not crush it. check the warranty of the Waring and the material used to make the carafe. If it is one year and made of polycarbonate, forget it. You'd be better off getting a reconditioned Vitamix 5200 with a 5 year warranty and Eastman Tritan copolymer carafe (BPA free) for $329. Pau

If there is any moisture in the dulse it will smell. I have small dulse shaker where I shake the flakes out like salt or pepper. Doesn't smell, and that's just as well. Consider arame as an alternative, a sea vegetable known for it's mild taste, still a good source of iodine.

119. Re: PUFA
generally, if you intake of iodine is adequate, you do not need to worry about the goitrogens as long as you don't go crazy with broccoli intake. For adequate iodine intake, look for dulse flakes in the sea vegetable section of your local health food store. Dulse is a safe Atlantic sea vegetable that when taken in modest amounts in flake form can help protect your thyroid. Best. Paul

I want to suggest if you don't already have one or two that you consider buying a cut-resistant glove. When you do knife work or use a mandoline in the kitchen, wearing a cut-resistant glove may reduce your risk of injury in the event of a slip. What is a cut-resistant glove? It's a glove that is made of a mesh material, usually a synthetic that is tightly woven (think chain mail) togethe
