hello, I live in India at the moment and sunflower seeds aren't available locally.I sometimes get them sent to me from an organic shop in another city but they work out more expensive than almonds!!Sesame is a bit cheaper. I have no idea if my cashews are really raw or not but not possibility to be too fussy about that kind of thing here unfortunately... I will make the almond milk sometimes bu

Hi - I had never heard of jicama - I just looked it up and it seems interesting and like it may grow in my climate so I will investigate if I can get seeds or something... is that tasty to eat?

Hello - I have been reading through raw recipe ideas and there are very few recipes with raw peanuts. I can get peanuts here much cheaper than almonds or other nuts. My husband eats a lot of them as locals view them as a very healthy food. My raw food book says they are very acid forming. I am wondering how people can know that? How can you test body pH after eating some peanuts? Does anyone kno

Hello, I would like to make some raw food milks...almond milk I was reading about and it sounds great but a bit expensive to make all the time...just wondering about alternatives? I thought of oat milk but the recipes I found say to cook the oats first. I tried rice milk once with soaked raw rice but it was a bit chalky and unappealing. I make coconut milk sometimes - wondering about any other o

Hello - I just visited an organic farm and came away with a big bag of cocoa beans. I am surprised to read online that cocoa is rated as some kind of superfood....I dont want to eat too many of these because of caffeine content but just wondering does anyone else use these and if so how do they use them ? Also I bought some flax seeds which I have never used before. They are kind of hard to ea

I am experienting having the fruits early and then a juice to which I add some moringa powder as like I said before I dont really have enough greens yet for regular juicing. Some people on this forum have mentioned possibility of protein deficiency from raw food diet. I am a bit confused by this since raw food recipes seem to have a lot of nuts and seeds, also bean sprouts . Aren't those high p

Hello - no cyclopsicle I wasnt' offended at all - I agree its important not to do things because of dogma - but at the same time if something is recommended and seems sensible I'm willing to try it and see if it works for me and I guess some things we need time to adapt to...in fact I do think its getting easier for me just to have fruit.... I used to always have porridge for breakfast but I am

Are you 100% sure the allergies are from foods and not something environmental? You could try taking propolis which is very good for natural antihistamine.... I personally found using the buteyko technique has helped me a lot with chronic allergic rhinitis that I now dont really get any more but used to have regularly - the propolis I believe also played some part in this but the buteyko tecniq

I have heard that zinc deficinecy can make dandruff but I have no idea if that is your case. Other possible cause is yeast infection. You could try virgin coconut oil mixed with a little neem oil - (neem oil isnt 100% necessary) , leave it in for some hours before shampooing. Neem powder is also good mixed with water to make a paste .Both these things have worked for me - the neem probablly most

Do the enzymes in raw food have any other benefit to the body other than the supposed helping with digestions that may not in fact be true??

yes of course it's dangerous for a normal person - it is only people who are practising some kind of yogic practice (in this case sungazing) who can do such a thing. The person I mentioned was scientifically observed if you read his website. I have met him and he definitely was not unhealthy but strong, well built and energetic. There are also several cases of people going without food using p

I don't know how many people here practice sungazing mentioned here? I would like to hear if anyone does? i visited a Sungazing master near to my home recently - his website is (I am not promoting this or anything - just found it ineresting) . He went without food for a year because of his practising sungazing and says it really helps with fasting. I am not suggesting everyone goes without

Hello - these replies have all been very helpful to me...I'm not yet too up on glyecimic index and things like that.... I'm not eating fruit for breakfast because raw food dogma recommends it...I got the idea first because the naturopathy centre where I did some fasting recommended it for me...and when I was fasting I found that my mind was much clearer and I didnt once in 2 weeks there take a s

thank you for all the replies once again - I am experimenting with the avacados again....locally they are only used in milk shakes..... I guess the thing for me is that although I may get the same amount of carb from 1/2 a kilo of bananas as a bowl of rice, its very hard for me to eat so much sweet fruit at a time. I don't like a lot of sweet taste and not only that but I am a little fearful of

I also love mangosteen and I think they're meant to be very healthy....unfortunately I can't get them locally either... I also love rambutan if you can get that in Bali - and I remember eating a lot of fruits called (I think) Salak or something? I loved them too.

thank you for all the replies. I have met in my life only two people that eat totally raw. One looked very skinny and pale (he may have felt great inside) and the other looked fine and said that after 3 years he had benefited mainly by feeling much more 'in the present moment' , however he admitted that he still had some food cravings and wasn't 100% sure he would stick with it always. I have re

Hello - I was just thinking to make a post about this topic and then came accross this thread. I have had the worst mouth ulcers for days after eating pineapple. In my case it tasted really nice and sweet - seemed ripe. Was not at fermentation point but definitely not unripe.... it has happened to me a lot in the past even with juices. I don't think it's just the acidity because I dont get much

Hello - I have also heard of soap as a spray but then do you really want to eat the leaves after? - I'm doubtful about that....it wouldnt matter much for things like peppers but I mean for things you eat the leaves of. I have heard of veg oil sprays also and neem spray - so far I haven't found any thing that effective but would love to hear if someone finds something that works. I guess I just

I sprouted fenugreek seeds for the first time the other day. I really liked the taste - like a curry taste - only a small amount is needed to make a really different taste to a salad. i doubt everyone would like the taste but my husband and I did!!

Thank you for all the help.... I asked about the juices because the one raw food book I have really raves about them and has a large section devoted to them....but I don't seem to get the big kick out of them that is claimed either and I also feel bad throwing away so much pulp... I sometimes make some kind of fruit juices in the blender with a little water and honey and just have the pulp along

thanks for the replies everone have given...I guess for now I'll try out how a high raw diet suits my body before investing in the dehydrator...I'll try some cooking in the sun recipe and post here if it comes out well - flies are suprisinlgy not a major problem where I am but ants are - anything sweet they will detect within seconds sometimes so I will have to keep it above a bowl of water in so

Hello, I am currently going over to a more raw way of life....I am not 100% yet by any means. But so far I am having only fruits for breakfast, and incorporating more salads, sprouts and raw dips into my diet.... would like to know about the following: I am still eating my salads accompanied by chapati (I live in India at the moment) or rice or similar. What would be a raw food equivilant (I

Hi - I am going to a more raw way of life after completing a fast and I am feeling a lot of cravings for raw foods since then and disinclination for much cooked stuff. I'm still not 100% or anything. I am just wondering what benefits people have noticed since being on such a way of life for some time and what % raw is needed to feel benefits. I didnt have a really bad diet before or anything but

Hello, I sprouted some chickpeas the other day (have tried a few times in the past also) thinking to make some raw hummus. They develop a really strong kind of fermented taste - a bit overpowering. I couldnt tell if they had gone off or not....but this developed from 2nd day even though I rinsed them regularly. can any one tell me any way to avoid this or is it normal and is there any danger in

my understanding from just undergoing a fast in a naturopathy centre in India is that it depends on your original body weight how long its good to fast - many overweight people can go many days easily and still keep quite active, while underweight people can do shorter regular fasts and take a lot of rest, with others somewhere in the middle. As far as feeling terrible on day 5, well I felt real
