Here in the north country we save our citrus peels for the woodstove when we need to get a new fire going. Works like a charm.

just 4 me, I've been there. I agree with Tamukha: get outside; look at a tree, rock, bird, whatever is natural and focus on it. This has helped me immensely. Where do you live? There may be wild foods still available for free. And sprouting is a very inexpensive way to get a lot of good live food. Are you not eligible for any food assistance anywhere? If so, buy vegetables (and fruits)

We are talking now... Coco, Very nice work. Start where you are at, put your income back into the business for a while until it really takes off. Over a few years growth will come as long as you continue to put yourself out there. Feel good about who you are and what you do and how you are contributing to society and community. Have fun with the craft shows, and good luck.

They grow food, make homebrew beers and wines (even raw), they make candles, and raise animals for fiber, they do art, and whatever else, and they become entrepreneurs and sell it for money. And they get by and some even make a fortune: Zutano: (Ben and Jerry's) sold out to a big! company, no long local but started out out of a renovated gas station in downtown Burlington Vt Artesano: Pete

coco, This area, here in Vermont, has much community support, and lots of homesteaders. Schools, community events, telecommuting work, living simply, public transportation all make it easy to be here out in the 'boonies'. If I can get the 4 miles down the hill to the village, I can get a bus that I can get to anywhere!! And it's affordable. And people here are very helpful. We make sure o

I live next to a large state park, 28,000 acres, no cell phone service here, I keep power turned off except when using and do not use a portable phone. I do not use a digital clock. No microwaves here. That is how I am keeping EMFs to a minimum. I am also very sensitive.

What helps me is to think about how I would feel if I ate that food. I concentrate on how bad the feeling is. This is how I get the power to keep to my personal food regimen. I prefer to feel good. I agree, for me, out of site is out of mind. I will keep you and others struggling with this in my thoughts and prayers.

There is a whole language with various dialects (almost each community has its own): it's called Newfoundnese. I pick it up real good when I am there; loose it when I got back to the States. And many like to 'torment' (joke about sex). Some are hoping to get a little 'skin', or maybe do a little 'grassin''. Maybe it's because I am a single woman they 'carry on'.

yes mostly interior. On the coast itself I have seen more plastic. I have some heavy duty windows that I made a cold frame with so it is low to the ground but great for the seedlings and greens. I am using polycarbonate for higher structures because where I am in Newfoundland we have 'Wreckhouse' winds, 160kmh, 100mph gusts all too often sometimes carrying salt, sand, and little rocks.

In Newfoundland where some people do not have a lot of money, people just build simple glass houses with old windows for greenhouses. It works great, is inexpensive, can withstand the winds and rain. Some of them have plywood for the bottom, glass on top and roof. One can stand when growing seedlings (on a shelf) and put them lower to the ground as the plant grows taller. Here are two exa

Jgunn, Yes, that is the simplest. least expensive hoop house I have found to build too. Others, Covering domes are not an efficient use of materials (sometimes there is a lot of waste). I prefer longer lasting polycarbonate plastic than short lasting greenhouse film plastic. There is a company that has a glass and aluminum dome greenhouse in the UK but it is really expensive. I like it th

I gave up watching TV in 1977 because I was a television addict. If it's on, I am as they say glued to the tube. Now if I catch a glimpse of it, I can't believe what I am seeing; sometimes I laugh, other times I am just to sensitive to see what I am seeing.

Geo, I recently came across a book about vegetables and there was a picture of freshly harvested carrots in northern Europe being stored outside in layers of hay, like in a haystack. It was pretty cool looking. I have also left carrots in the ground, covered with straw, and harvested in the spring. They were sweet! The only difference was that they has rootlet on them.

Basic Principles of Lyocell Fiber Production — Raw cellulose is directly dissolved in an amine oxide solvent. The solution is filtered, extruded into an aqueous bath of dilute amine oxide, and coagulated into fiber form. Lacto in this case refers to the lactobacillus bacteria, a member of the lactic acid group because it converts lactose and other sugars into lactic acid. So it doesn't just use milk sugar (lactose) but it can use other sugars as well.

I am 52 now and have always had a weak digestive system, even still (I had many many antibiotics as a child). Raw fermented foods are good for me, I like the taste, and I have fun preparing them. I do not consume bottled probiotics. Fermented foods are the way my intestines get these healthful flora.

I wear silk underneath and wool over in the winter. I also get most of my stuff 2nd hand or hand-me-down. I cannot wear synthetic material. I do use leather boots. There are meat eaters out there, for me it's better to use the whole animal instead of waste it.

Hi Again All, I am glad I found the site back up. For me, eating raw and leaning towards greens and veggies more than fruit keeps my body on track, teeth and all. I feel I do not have a lot of will power and therefore, out of sight is out of mind, and therefore I am not tempted to eat things, cooked foods, sweets, (bread, pasta, etc.) which will make me feel bloated and bad. If I am in an e

A good hunting cat. I live in the country. Every hole in the house needs to be closed so that no critters get into the walls, especially as the weather cools (I know, wrong time of year). Seriously, you need to seal every hole.
