I'm still eating green smoothies, fruit, and nuts and a large salad at night. I started doing the 5 Tibetan Rites again. This time I went right for the 21 reps rather than working up to them. I never reach my goal if I try to do it gently. It's best if I just do it; start where I want to end up. I was really sore the first day. I took a day off, then did the 21 reps yesterday. I'm not

It's amazing how we beat ourselves up like we do. I know for myself, I wouldn't talk to anyone the way I do when I'm being so hard on myself. Glad to know that it's passing. Sounds like you were feeling really down. Glad to hear you're doing better. And what suncloud wrote: congrats on the street test! Love, Mona A spiritual awakening is our greatest gift. Hi Jody. The way I make my dolmas is by using the wild rice recipe I posted above and roll them in grape leaves. That's it! Sometimes I make a dip with hummus or a lemony-olive oil sauce. I just make it up as I go. No recipe really. Right now I'm drinking green smoothies regularly and still eating a large salad at night. My favorite fruit smoothie right now: bananas, orange juice and melo

Thanks, Suncloud. Dr. Schwarts looks great at 82. What muscles! I also have upper body weakness. Sometimes I get into weight lifting with my 10 lb ankle weights and at other times I just can't excite myself to exercise with them. I hold my ankle weights and use them like regular weights. I feel really motivated to start up again after reading your diary. I have a great routine when I actuall

Hi Suncloud. I really like your diary. I feel inspired when I read it. What is your heavy hands routine? Love, Mona padremickey.blogspot.com The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it.

I celebrated by eating raw dolmas with wild rice, something I don't normally eat. They were excellent. I haven't had any kind of pancakes for Fat Tuesday sense going raw. How do you make banana-flax pancakes? They sound good. I can try them on a Sunday, which is a feast day. Still haven't decided what to do for lent. Hmmm. I better hurry cuz it's already here! Maybe I'll just take on a

Oops. I meant to write chayote instead of chacote. It's the last day of Carnaval. Party, party, party! The whole city is closed down. It's so quiet. Everyone is in the interior. Las Tablas is where all the Carnaval action is. Tonight, I'm making my dolmas. Last night we finished watching Veer Zaara, a wonderful bollywood movie. I always cry at the end. We love bollywood and have lo

Hi Sharrhan, When I read your comment, my thoughts were that you really care and your intentions are for wanting the best for me. So, I looked at the message as being given with love. Plus, I aggree that we are one with the universe and the Spirit/Source/God/Higher Power and therefore agree with your statement. Last night I made the Quinoa salad with chacote instead of quinoa and, WOW!,

Thank you, Sharrhan, for your beautiful words and great reminder. So, it's Carnaval here in Panama, which is feasting and party atmosphere. Here's Panama's Canaval theme song by our very own Samy and Sandra Sandaval: So, I am preparing my favorite foods: dolmas, mock tabouli salad and humus. I know I'll suffer a bit for it. Last time I made these I stunk to high heaven. They are s

Thanks, Sharrhan! Sales are slow and we're really concerned about how we're going to eat while we're there. We're hoping sales pick up. We figure selling stuff would work better than asking for donations all the time. On the other hand, all donations we recieve are tax deductable. Please let all your friends know about our sale and web site. I really want to see you when I visit the Bosto

What was the cleanse like? I mean what was the program of the cleanse? Did you take suplements for X number of days? A drink for X number of days? Could you eat during the cleanse? Just curious... Mona Minds are like parachutes----they won't work unless they're open.

Rob-This may sound like a stupid question, but do you peel it first and use only the soft part on the inside? Or do you use the whole thing? Mona It is not the experience if today that drives people mad----it is the remorse or bitterness for something which happened yesterday and the dread of what tomorrow may bring.

Hi Sharrhan, I'm doing better now, thanks. I was hoping to be in Cambridge this month but couldn't pull it off financially. So, God willing, I'll be there in the summer for a couple a days while Michael and I are on sabbatical. I would love for you to meet him. And I'm bringing my flute! I've been eating raw food for almost 5 years now. Wow! Can't believe it's been that long. Anyway, I'm also a missionary in Panama. My husband's blog is about our mission work but also very funny. We're not normal missionaries. His blog is testamony to that. We're going on sabbatical in April and will be in California for 4 months. During that time, we hope to visit our daughter who lives i

Hi Sharrhan, So cool that you joined a jazz band. I'm going to be teaching flute at the Episcopal school this semester until I leave for sabadical in April. The thing is, I'm really not as good a flute player today as I was 30 years ago. But, it's an opportunity to practice and improve. At least I'll be teaching in the elementary grades so I still know more than they do. It'll also be interes

Thanks, Pampam. I haven't had meca, but I love wheatgrass juice. When I had it last time I was in the States, I couldn't believe how sweet it is. I tried growing it, but was unsuccessful. Could have been because of the humidity. Well, this last week I have been suffering with a painful canker sore. So, I was able to fast for one day which did help some. Then my husband, bless is heart, br

Hello everyone, I went to help out at a youth camp a couple of weeks ago and was able to eat salad and fruit everyday. Raw food vegan is not something understood by Panamanians. When the cook was preparing my salad I gently stopped him from boiling my carrots and cabbage on the first night. He then understood and gave me raw salads of tomatoes, cucumbers and carrots for lunch and dinner. O

Hi Jody and Pam. Those are great ideas. I eat green smoothies as my first meal of the day. I have tried mixing several veggies and/or fruits together for my salad dressings. They taste really good, including the one you suggested, Pam, but as a dressing really lack something for me and I don't enjoy the salad. As much as I love green smoothies, I really want to chew my last meal of the day a

Hi everyone, I must say, after trying to go oil-free for 10 days and after eating my good, but oil free salad, I decided no more. Even though I liked the dressing, I had a hard time eating the salad without oil. So, I'm eating salad with oil or nut based dressing again. I'm still dry fasting in the morning. I will be a camp with a bunch of middle school kids next week. Eating will be ve

Happy New Year! I've been soooooo busy. I have extra responsibilities with my mission work this time of the year. It's the custom in Panama to have the New Year "catch you in church" so every year we have a mass that ends at midnight. My husband, who is the rector of the church, and I played a duet; me on flute and him on recorder. After the service we went outside to watch the bea

Hi Sharrhan and Jodi. Glad you enjoy the blog. My husband is posting his version on the Christmas story tonight with his toys. It's part of his Red Mr. Peanut Bank series. It's pretty amusing. Hi everyone, When I was on hiatus from writing, I went on the 10-day cleanse that Frederic guided a bunch of us through. It was very good in many ways. I ate only fresh fruit and veggies. No oils, no avocados, no nuts, no salt, no spices, no herbs. What I found the hardest was not having oil, nut or olive, on my salads. There's something about a nice nut dressing or olive oil based dressin
