181. knee pain
Has anyone had knee pain that you’d associate with eating raw? I don’t recall ever having read that this is a sign of detox. Now my knees hurt pretty much all day. Only when I sit in meditation though does it really hurt badly. I’ll see if I can sit in a chair in the Dharma Hall if it doesn’t get better real soon. The pain couldn't be from the sitting meditation. I've been sitting for a l

GENERAL STUFF I wrote this and the next three entries on May 21. It’s now the 26th. I want to say it now and say it plainly. I don’t read other people’s diaries. No doubt I could benefit from reading other people’s diaries. I might read others’ diaries if I felt I had more time. But there is so much work to do here, getting onto a computer is not super super convenient, and, ther

Sounds good to me. I have eaten simpler (though often not mono) since arriving here at this temple. But this morning I had one tomato and didn't feel like eating it! I wouldn't want to ask for a bunch of any one fruit. Just eat what I get and be okay with it. I later on got some apples, some pears, some melons, and some tomatoes. So, yeah, I can simplify the next several meals.

I've read that some researchers say that the propensity for oxalic acid to bind to ... what is it, iron (?), is activated by cooking. So oxalic acid from raw sources wouldn't be a concern. And, successful, 30-year raw fooder told me this a long time ago. Plus, yeah, the stuff tastes great. There are lots of wild plants that are great to eat. I regularly enjoy the nutty flavor of one that I am

One more thing, regarding washing vegetables. Know of anything that will remove agricultural chemicals? I learned that soaking produce in a tub of water (many liters, but I don't know just how many) a tablespoon of baking soda for 20 minutes removes at least 90% of the agricultural chemicals. Real real hard for me to believe, especially from something like a watermelon! I haven't found the so

An opportunity!! I've been wanting to post this to the group for a while. I remember reading something a couple of years ago regarding moldy fruits. It was on Frederic Patenaude's website. One of his articles. He said that when a fruit is even a little bit moldy, it's no good anymore!! He wrote that it's not ok to just cut that part out and eat the rest. According to him, it's not food anymor

Nice. Thanks Jodi. Reminders are so helpful. I do much for myself. For me though, it's a good thing to remind myself to not do TOO much! I mean, just RELAXING is doing something for yourself. And it doesn't require planning, or effort or money! It's not always "easy" but it's always free and unlimited. Inexhaustible and not exhausting!

I used to be pretty careful about food combining. For the past several months though I've been less so. It started when I read on this forum that people were combining fruits against the guidelines. Like bananas (sweet fruit) and oranges (sour fruit). The guidelines say DON'T. I decided to try it, first in a smoothie and loved it to death. Wow. Then one day I had both in front of me, ate signific

A FEW GENERAL RESPONSES la_veronique > u hafta admit, u do have a fairly interesting life > living in a monastery in korean and all Yeah, it's been a pretty fascinating life. I'm 43 and have lived about 16 of my adult years in 4 countries in Asia. Philippines, Japan, Thailand, and now Korea. Crazy. Fascinating. No regrets. I once heard a taped Dharma Talk where the guy paraprhased a

WELCOME FAMILY AND FRIENDS Hi everyone. To the regular board memebers, I want to say that I've quit posting to a blog that I'd been keeping. This was for family and friends. I didn't want to post to that blog and to this diary. Too much work. So I closed it down with an entry directing everyone to come to my diary here. Don't know how many of them will actually come to read, but I suppose a fe

For various reasons I'm not asking these questions directly to the people nearest me. 1. Why do people make raised beds? I see several little disasters in making these little beds. Thin, narrow, raised beds. At the moment, the plants don't fully cover most of the beds. So, there's erosion. As I water, I see bits of the bed eroding into the little gullies in between. Also, as the wind blows, i

Boy thanks. That's a nice welcome. Everyone here knows that I eat mostly (some mistakenly think I eat only) raw. So every morning when I go to breakfast there's at least some fruit. I sometimes wonder what the lady thinks of me and my diet. She doesn't have to do much at all for me. She cooks all these things for the monks and for others. But for me, what does she do? She cuts up an apple and

Arugula, I've looked throught this thread to see your comments. I only saw a couple. And unless I overlooked something, you've said nothing about how the mono mealing has been going. Maybe you've stopped. Maybe you've posted something in another thread. I haven't looked through the forum at all. I'm real curious how you've been doing on this.

I'll start teaching kindergarteners soon. I'll teach English. I'll start next week or the following week. The kids are so so so darned cute. Adorable. Even the ones who poke their fingers in my butt and run away laughing their heads off. I don't know much about the curriculum or anything much. But, beings as this is a Buddhist temple, there is some degree of Buddhist tinge (or taint if you pr

A couple of nights ago, after a ceremony for someone who'd died 49 days before (I'll not go into this one but it's interesting in its own right) dinner was served to those few who'd come for the ceremony. Family I think they are. One guy comes for sitting meditation on occasion. Well, there were some things on the table that attracted me. Several but I zoomed in on three. One was a pancake sort o

I don't know the reason I'm so so attracted to pastry. Cakes and cookies and other things from the bakery. I have some ideas but really, I really don't know what is at the heart of it all. For several reasons I want to / intend to / strive to come totally free of this craving. And for anyone who knows Seon / Zen language, yeah, I know, don't want, don't intend, don't strive. Just do. Yeah yeah ye

Yeah, I know, the subject line tends toward sensationalism, doesn't it? But it does sum up a few things that are germane to this diary. I am eating more raw than ever before. I live at a Buddhist temple. Zen (or Seon in Korean langauge). I practice Seon Buddhism. And the temple is in South Korea. Thus the subject heading. Well, I'll give a very brief summary of my life, then a brief summary o

Arugula, I wonder what you mean by "works" and "doing the trick". I guess you mean just not getting sick but I have a feeling there's also something else you have in mind. I eat straight out of a garden. Often enough, right there in the garden. Squat, pick, insert, chew, swallow. I don't always look for bugs. Often but not always. There are times though when I'll notice a

I have been soaking / sprouting sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. I remember seeing years ago in a book by Victoras Kulvinskas nutritional information for lots of sprouts. If anyone has this book and wouldn't mind posting the information for sunflower, pumpkin, and flax sprouts, I'd really appreciate it. I don't think it'd be a violation of copyright, but, if I'm wrong, then never mind. Or if yo

The entire board is for raw vegan food only. Other foods are often discussed, and sometimes encouraged, but as far as threads encouraging other than raw vegan foods, no, no, no. Read the first post in the first forum, it explains things pretty clearly. I haven't read it in a while, but I am pretty sure my memory is straight.

There's another guy who posts on this board. I think his name is flex4life? Something like that. He's got flex in his username. His signature picture shows him flexing a pretty impressive bicep!

Can't say that I've noticed any positive results from having most of my amalgams replaced. Can't say I notice anything negative as a result either. Maybe I'll notice something sometime down the road. After all the amalgam is gone and after my body has removed all the mercury that has accumulated over the years. That is, of course, considering that my body has stored up mercury that has come from
