Add me too to the too little sleep link. And of course, sleeplessness is rooted somewhere. For me, it's gotta be stress. I really couldn't tell you what I stress about. But I just don't stop thinking. Instead of bedtime being a time to let go, it's a time to think. And about nothing special or important. I'm pegged - I really don't understand why I just don't stop thinking!

Cool thread. I like all this. I know I myself often think about what to eat rather than eat what feels appealing. It's time to start letting go of this. Thanks. I've been eating more and more mono lately and that is nice. Nora, I'm also really interested in your article. I'll have a lookie see at the website you link to. If I don't see it then maybe I'll ask where we can find it. I am impress

Typhoon Nari hit Sunday, Sept 16, 2007. Supposedly the worst in 80 years. I don't know if that means there was a stronger one 80 or so years ago or if records only go back that far. Anyway, this was a rough one. We've still got lots and lots of clean up to do. I'm not back in my room yet. The floor heating system has been taking time, and I've been helping more with other people's things than

Jodi, I'd like to comment on your comment about gardening. My understanding about losing nitrogen is like this. When carbonacious (dry grasses and weeds, as well as saw dust and other carbonacious things) are mixed into the soil, nitrogen from the soil is used to break it down. I've not known of any such problem with green, fresh weeds and grasses. I've experienced first hand the one I mention he

I also don't usually kill anything. There were 3 then 4 flies in my room until a couple of Sundays ago. They stayed for days. The fourth one came in I guess when I had the door open for the other three to hopefully get the hint! Then the typhoon came that Sunday, and then the flood, so I opened the window for me to get out! The flies got out somehow. I let them stay for several days. I was as pat

Rawnora, and I think you too Fresh, say that Doug advocates forcing greens even if we don't like the taste. I've read 811 and have heard a couple of his lectures. I've read a couple of articles he's written. He certainly does advocate greens. But I don't believe I've seen anywhere or heard him say that we absolutely should eat greens even if we don't like the taste. Rawnora, you said in one o

Been away for a while. Internet is down at the temple and I haven't been getting out until just recently. There was a killer typhoon that hit the island recently. Wiped us out pretty thoroughly. Been digging out the whole week. We're right next to a big river which overflowed, flooding the temple and other nearby places. Water was about waist high in my room and so most of my books and various pa

Yeah, I also have enjoyed reading some of the threads on Doug's site. But it seems to me that his is one of many sites on a larger site. I feel there must be better choices than vegsource.com but .... I suppose it's cheap. The price, I mean. Yeah, lots of advertising. And you notice that every time you click something, there's a long pause before what you want to see comes up. I imagine that's so

Try contacting someone in one of the countries of Africa. Or try contacting someone from a consulate or embassy of an African country. Or, heck, there are lots of people in the US from Africa, working all over the place. Hope you find the name. Then what?

I have a few minutes, haven't written anything for a while, so want to say something to someone! I've been feeling pretty good lately. Last Sunday I commited to eating only raw foods this week. This is the 7th day and I've stuck to it almost 100%. I've had some royal jelly powder that a friend gave me, some chocolate milk!, and some ginseng honey juice. I think that's it. No cooked food thoug

Time to PM Bryan. I guess he's still the moderator. Don't know if that means he's the one who handles this issue though.

Or is it me? Or ...? I don't get on the internet very often but there are threads on this forum that I'd really like to see updates to. But every time I've ever done the "Follow this thread" steps, I've never gotten emails informing me that there have been new posts to the thread. So, any comments or suggestions? Thanks.

Funky Rob, (... or anyone ...) do you know where I can get nutritional info for various wild veggies? I’m especially interested in wild sorrel/dock, Thickhead (Crassocephalum crepidioide (Benth.) S. Moore – one I like quite a lot. It’s native to Africa but has become wild in Australia, and parts of East Asia), Mugwort, Comfrey, Chickweed, Henbit, Rocket, Asiatic pennywort (another one that

HIYA! Okay, talked with Sunmi (my friend) and with Sunim (the abbot) about my situation here. I told them I don't want to wait any longer to start novice training. It's been about five months since the idea was presented to me and so far as I know I'm no closer now to starting. Plus, Sunmi has told me that the difference between life here as a novice and life here as a layperson is that novice

HIYA! Thanks so much everyone for expressing interest. I feel warm. I'm at SF airport now. It's been a really terrrrrific visit home. Didn't visit everyone, didn't even call everyone. Next time I'll have more time, and fewer excuses! Contacted several Buddhist temples and Zen centers to learn about living and practice possibilities. Some encouraging things out there. My delicious!! fri

How about dem greens? Sure spinach, but other greens as well. Especially wild greens. Lambs Quarters and Dandelions, for sure, are two. Others also but I don't remember what.

KARENND Lambs Quarters grows wild all over. In the garden as well. Yeah, it's got a bunch of calcium and other minerals I forget what. I've juiced it a couple of times but it's pretty bitter so I prefer to mix it with something a little nicer tasting. THE OLD LADY WITH THE TOOL! Went into the chili pepper garden again this morning. A littler earlier than usual because it's been so incred

I agree with you. If it's better for you, why not? The monk didn't say raw is bad or anything, didn't say it's not right for some people. He only said he's not eating raw now because he should eat what people give him. I guess he hasn't said he'd prefer to eat raw. Don't know. I really liked your post about how even enlightened people have their own cultural understandings. This rings true to

Yeah, I know, I've been silent lately. Haven't been on the computer that much. Been real busy though. Looking for a plane ticket home. Wow. So expensive. Guess I have one though. I expect to pay tomorrow, Monday the 23rd. Been in the garden fairly often. Doing things in the chili pepper gardens. So much really ought to be done. It's just me for the most part. Don't see why such an importa

My suggestion is to try contacting someone on the website. I don't get it either but I'd say it probably means that we ought to have that much in our guts. So it seems to me that it's not a question of how to get it. Eating and living well would probably give us a good healthy amount of bacteria in our guts as well as in the rest of our bodies. The "good" bacteria, if I'm not mistaken,

Yeah, boy, don't eat the rind! I'm curious if you did! Did you eat the outer rind? Thais say mangosteens go well with durian. They say that durians are heating and that mangosteens are cooling and that the two together balance well. I never felt hot by eating durians. Never cool by eating mangosteens. Just loved the tastes of both.

Just got off the phone with He was at his temple in Berkeley CA. He spends most of his time at his temple in Seoul though. Anyway, first I talked with a woman. Then she went to see if Hyeon-oong Sunim was free. He came to the phone and we talked for a few minutes. He doesn't eat raw anymore. He eats what people offer. I didn't push him a lot about eating raw. He says that he should accept

I wrote that I've probably forgot more than I ever knew. Something like that. Well, if you didn't catch it, it doesn't add up. Or subtract even! I saw this years ago on someone's desk. It was a Hagar the Horrible cartoon. I loved it right away. Still do. Got a wild hair a few days ago so posted it. I've probably forgot more than I ever knew!

LAV, this is relevant to what you said about babies. I heard a guy give a Dharma Talk on a podcast. He said that some parents had just given birth to a second child. The first was about 2 or 3 years old. She en

So, what do you do when you get that itch in your throat? Do you cough and cough? Does it ever go away because you cough? Seems to me there are two kinds of things that stimulate me to cough. One, well I can't describe it very well. But the other is sort of like an irritating itch. Not like the other one. I want to say something about what I do when I get the irritating itch. I used to cough
