Bryan, last year, in the thread you started when you just got your 80/10/10 book, you mentioned sleep. That you'd slept for several months, 18 hours a day, 16 hours a day. And that during and after this period of rest, your health improved dramatically. Please say more about this. I plan on doing this in a few months. But I'd like to know a bit more first. Did you follow anyone's advice?

Great. I really appreciate this. I thought yesterday, after posting that last post, to check Google but didn't have time. I'll stick to these suggestions. Makes sense to me too.

What's the best time? Years ago I visited a CSA for a tour. The guy there said that they try to get fruits and vegetables to the customers when the produce in the freshest possible state. So, he said, they pick fruits at one time of day and vegetables at another time of day. If I remember correctly. But I forget when these times are. I'm sure he said morning for one and evening for the other. If

HIYA! Thanks Jodi for forcing me to write! Yeah, I'm still around. I don't get onto this board much anymore, and this diary even less often. I still eat much the same way and live life much the same as before. I've just been very busy lately, and decided I'd be better off lopping off some things to make life less busy, less hectic. This is one of those things. I do still from time to time

I'm going to print these responses and explain to the monk as well as I can. I've never heard of ascites. But I'll look over the pages with the links. The Dr. Sandra Cabot one and the ascites ones. I don't know what the HAV HBV and the HCV are but I suppose they're the hepatitis types. I'll ask if he's been tested. I have no idea. A few days ago I asked if he has had ultrasounds done. He said he'

The man has been a monk for more than 20 years. He's not fat, hasn't been a drinker while he's been a monk (or, at least, I strongly FEEL that he hasn't been). The stuff in his gut isn't @#$%&. It's liquid that isn't coming out. People at the hospital drain it. He looks much better afterwards. I feel so sorry for him. He's a good guy. Apparently he's done some things "wrong". And who do

HIYA! There's a monk at this temple where I live who has cirrhosis. His belly is huge. The only time the size of his belly goes down is when he goes in to the hospital to have the fluid from his belly pumped out. I don't know what's in there that gets his belly so big but it's a real burden for him. He says that lots of Koreans (I'm living in Korea) die from cirrhosis. He's eating mostly r

Rawdanceruk, have you gone to the place? My friend is raw but not vegan, not vegetarian. I only know that when he was here in Korea, he ate raw fish, and raw eggs. He said the gaiayoga place is raw but not vegetarian. They teach Permaculture there too. Great. That's one reason my friend went.

So, Uma, did you finish after 10 days? I enjoyed reading your posts. I think it's great that you did that. I got 15 persimmons yesterday for about $5 then ended up giving away about half of them. I'll get more tomorrow because, like you say, they're so yum. The dried persimmons in the picture are hachiya persimmons. They're pretty intensely sweet but very nice. I've eaten too many in the past

Prism, thanks to a suggestion you made to me in an earlier thread, I've started to eat kelp. Just had my first today. Boy did I ever NOT like it. But I kept eating it. I ate it along with some soaked sunflower seeds. Makes it much easier to eat. I didn't weigh it so don't know how much I ate. Maybe 50 grams. I soaked it in water for an hour or so. Any idea how much is a good idea to eat per day /

Well, Prism, I'll try the seaweeds. There are lots here in Korea. I may eat the stuff served in the kitchen or I may buy some myself. The stuff served in the kitchen, even when it's raw, is mixed with other stuff and is often pretty salty. I could ask them to just give me a bit from the package. We'll see. Aquadecoco, I have never thought to take my body temperature. I will see about getting

Uma, yeah, I think the tannins are in the skins. Last year, when I first arrived in Korea, and started eating these things like wild, I noticed a strong discomfort in my belly. So I Googled persimmons to see if others were having trouble. Didn't find much but I did read that some people have trouble digesting the skins. Are you still eating just persimmons? I think this is a great idea. I don

If this gaiayoga is the place I'm thinking of, I know a guy who went there recently. He may still be there, I don't know. I can ask him to contact you if you want. He once told me that he was having a great time there, that's really all I know about his experience there. I'm interested to know about the one in Cal. How about a link or a name?

Man o man. I'm always cold. I suppose eating lots of fruits and vegetables doesn't help. I've been eating mostly raw for many years yet am still cold most of the cold season. I bundle up under so many layers but am still cold. I wear two big winter jackets, designed to keep a person warm in hellatious cold weather. Some weeks ago it dawned on me that I wear so much clothing yet am still cold that

You're a lay Zen priest in the US. Boy, do I ever want to talk with you! Where are you? What sort of practice do you have? I guess I'd just ask if you do Soto, or Rinzai, or some kind of combination, or, maybe these labels aren't really appropriate. Do you know of any rawfooders living at temples? Or, any temples where rawfoodism is accomodated? I don't want to make raw food a must, but I

I haven't read the other posts in this thread. Sorr. Not much time but I do want to relate my own experiences with coughs. One day, some years ago, I noticed that there's a certain kind of cough that just didn't go away. I'd cough and cough but it didn't seem to do any good. So I decided to stifle it. One or the other eye'd tear up, and would release some tears INSIDE. I wouldn't cry tears do

HIYA! I know that some people are looking for cheap persimmons. Well, here's an idea. Contact a local supermarket or a local warehouse and ask if they'll sell you their old stuff for a reduced price. I mean, the stuff that they don't even put out on the discount shelves. I do this in Korea and boy do I ever get the good stuff. I like them soft while most others prefer them hard, with a crunch.

Lots of persimmon orchards here? Can't say that I've seen many but there sure area lots and lots to eat. Not imported either. Maybe there just aren't many on this island. I remember the first time I heard that some trees are in greenhouses. I couldn't imagine a tree in a greenhouse. But I have seen some. I eat lots of these things. Maybe too many. I'll throw together some observations and som

I am living in South Korea and persimmon season is particularly long because they come early and last until spring because many are grown in greenhouses! Anyway, I have been having my own sensual love affair with those little honeys. There are several varieties here. Sometimes I love the fuyus after they've softened considerably. Sometimes I like the hachiyas, sometimes it's varieties that are re

This isn't Ceylon Spinach / Malabar Spinach, is it? Looks somewhat similar. If you planted it from seed, then you could know if it's a legume or not. Whatever, don't eat our LAV!

Just a quick word to say that I'm still alive, still mostly raw, and feeling pretty good about life. I've been busy with other things so haven't posted. Don't know when I will write a real post. Life is pretty much the same as always. Mostly raw, mostly cold!, and mostly really enjoyable. I'll write again sometime. I occasionally look at the main forum just don't say anything. Time.

Still loving the persimmons. Just got another huge amount of older ones, harder to sell, for so so cheap. And they're so so good. Wow. Can't believe it. It's not just my opinion, others have enjoyed some too. One of the monks, I sometimes call him the yoga monk in my diary here, has become very interested in a fruit based diet. He's got some liver problems and his belly is really bloated. I'v

Well, have you started? It's really pretty easy to understand once you've got a few basics down. I follow it for the most part myself. Lots of mono meals, lots of fruit. But I don't get nearly the amount of vegetables that Doug suggests. There are people, some of whom post on this board, who say that if vegetables aren't appealing, it's not a problem to not eat them. So I've been toying with

Ah, a good opportunity to thank you, F1. I live at a temple in South Korea. Yesterday, one of the monks here finally showed interest in the way I eat. I don't have that good of a command of Korean language but I managed to tell him a little. But showing him pictures of you probably did more to impress him than anything I told him. Another thing I want to thank you for is for starting a thread

Too bad you bought 50 persimmons and most still aren't budging. Do what Anaken does. Find the "overripe" ones. That's what I've been doing too and man I guess I'm in Eden. I live in Korea and there are several varieties that I'm enjoying. I get the overripe ones for so cheap. Why don't others eat them? Well, I've gotten a couple of people interested so that's a start. When they're soft

It's persimmons season and I'm so glad. I've been enjoying the hell out of these little orange guys. I've been getting them super cheap. At least, cheap for Korea. This has got to be one of the most expensive places on the planet to get a fruit fix. But a lady who works here at the temple has helped me get them super cheap. About 20 cents or so each. As a percent of salary, that's pretty cheap. A

Jodi, I'm glad you like what I write. The temple often has lots of fruit. I do donate money to the temple. I do sometimes offer food to others. I also sometimes buy various foods from outside the temple and offer to others inside the temple. Like, there's a local food that I really like myself. It's a buckwheat flour pancake thing, rolled up with some cooked giant radish shreds and a bit of sesam

NOTHINGNESS; MIGHT THE ABBOT BE ON TO SOMETHING?! NOTHINGNESS David, I can't say I've ever experienced anything like this, even in meditation. In your last paragraph, you say this: "There is no battle of thought or trying to solve deep emotional issues it all becomes clear and negativity fades away. It is totally bizarre but feels so natural, like finally coming home." I wond
