Here's a link that might interest you. It's from the website of a guy named Robert Wynman. He practices Natural Hygiene, eats mostly or only raw foods, and was a dentist for many years. He's retired now. His website is if nothing else very interesting. He's got lots to say about oral health. Mercury (part 2 of the interview), flouride (part 3 or 4 of the interview), toothpaste (don't use

Yeah, dates, frozen bananas, and pumpkins and other squashes - those are good ideas. Also, how do you feel about plantains? If they're available in winter where you live. Ripe plantains, like with pretty blackened peels, and really soft textured flesh ... boy I like 'em a lot. Another idea is to buy stuff online. Like you used to do, bananas are my smoothie base. Nothing works nearly as w

I so appreciate that this forum exists. I super appreciate everyones' responses. I suppose I'll hang on to the wisdom tooth, at least for the time being. Again, thanks so much everyone. Love from me too, Troy.

The wisdom tooth doesn't hurt in the least unless I bite down directly on it. It's not giving me any pain and there's no inflammation. Although it's loose loose loose, I don't see any immediate need for pulling it. I'd love to be able to post someday that it's firm again! Bryan, I have been planning for a long rest / sleep, like you did some years ago and posted about a couple of years ago. I

You know, I'll probably just hang on to the thing unless it seems to be causing trouble. Right now, no biggie. I'd appreciate the link if you find it. I also have read that teeth can heal if we live "properly". I get more and more proper all the time! Thanks.

45. since 1995 or 1996. Mostly raw since then. But the cooked portion has often been like this: ^%*#@(!! Not thriving, that's for sure. Jodi, thanks for showing me a new raw word! I see more RAWL the time! And, yeah, a hearty pat on the back to you, as well as to everyone, regardless of perceived success or failure. Just having the gaul to swim upstream, so to speak, is GREAT, in my opinion.

So, does having a wisdom tooth pulled mean there's nothing left there in the space where there had been a tooth? No root left? Nothing put in it's place? I think I understand pretty well the dangers of root canals. To add to the mystery, I've read that root canal *therapy* is okay, whereas root canal *treatment* is not. I had never seen either of these words until I read about it not long ago

HIYA! What's the difference between having a root canal done and having a wisdom tooth pulled? I went to a dentist a few weeks ago. I've got a loose wisdom tooth that he said should be pulled. He said he'd have to do a root canal. When a dentist does a root canal, the whole tooth, root and all comes out, right? It's the same with having a wisdom tooth pulled, right? I've read a pretty fai

Boy, Kitty (or whatever your name is!), I am glad you posted this. It gives me the chance to send you some encouragement! So, hang in there girl. Hang in there! And a smiley face :-) or two :-) :-) Ya know, when I was a teenager, I decided I didn't want a "regular job". I have held this ideal for about 25 years or more. A few years ago I told my sister-in-law that I didn't want a &qu

Purslane. So easy to grow. If some of the seeds are black, toss them on the ground. Water them if you want. And just wait. I don't know how long before seeds come up. I've got a tiny garden where I've tossed purslane seeds. Don't know what's coming up though. Seeds that I tossed last month, or seeds that I tossed earlier this month. They sure seem to take a long time though. You might try going t

You've got yourself a cool story there. I appreciate your telling me. I'm that much more inspired to do this myself. I especially like the part of your story where you said that you figured you'd eventually be rested enough at some point. Getting out of the way. This is so ... Zen. My practice is Zen practice. Boy ... I could go on and on, but, why don't I just step aside now! I applaud you h

I know some people who drink roasted soy beans instead. I searched Google with these words "roasted soy as a substitute for coffee" and came up with some 25,000 hits. Here are a few links. This one says how to make it. I don't believe that soy is really a healthful food. That's because of some things I've read. But, I suppose if it's a temporary way to get off coffe

So, plainlydressed, you only needed a week to get better. How many hours did you sleep that week? You say literally around the clock, but c'mon, surely you didn't sleep 24 x 7! I'm grinning now because .... Surely, more like 19 or 20 hours a day. Yeah? Did you feel like you'd had enough after that week? Did you decide beforehand to give it a week, then you'd resume a more typical life? Wh

A couple of years ago I read a post by Bryan where he said he slept a lot for a few months. His health improved dramatically. I was really inspired by this post. Inspired to do something similar someday. That day seems to be approaching. I recently quit my job teaching English at a private English language school. It was incredibly stressful for me. I'm living in South Korea at the moment. In

You might be interested in Natural Hygiene. Some proponents suggest some cooked food. Some say 100% raw. Or during transition, for sure, cooked food is suggested. I don't know an awful lot about it myself. But what I have learned makes an awful lot of sense to me. It's not only about food. But total lifestyle. Doesn't it make sense that food isn't the only thing that contributes to quality of

Yeah Jodi, here's a link. The brushes and other products are not easy to find. You have to go to the book store then click on health products. These things only cost $2.50 each. If they really do last for years (because of the case that you put the brush into after each use), as Robert Wynman says, then, hey, they're cheaper than any other. And, if, as the booklet says, flossing reall

There's a guy named Robert Wynman who used to be a dentist. He's retired now. He is a raw foodist, following Natural Hygiene. He's got a website that I found pretty darned useful. Here's the link www.wynman.com At the very least read the interview he did in 1994 with Chet Day for Health and Beyond Newsletter. I've got quite a story with my own mouth but I won't go into that again. I bough

Boy, nobody's going to say anything about caffeine? It's in all teas except herbal teas. It's not good for our health. Plus, the white sugar that most people put in their coffee, and the creamers .... And, boy, we could go on and on about what's in coffee, and tea. There's nothing raw about either. Eaglefly probably is right about the tea leaves being heated, even before they're sun brewe

Superinfinity, thanks for the link. I didn't realize this book is in the public domain, at least, as it says, in some countries. I intend to read it someday. I've also read about the book on Quackwatch, which I like to read from time to time. It's good to get opposing perspectives, even though I sometimes don't know what to believe and what to not believe. And, yeah, I use a waterpik too.

HIYA lav! That's an idea. I would like to talk with a dentist who's a raw fooder to get a better match. Meaning, a dentist who believes that raw foods are the best things for our oral health as well as overall health. I'll hang on a bit to see if anyone pops up. But yeah, maybe I'll look for a holistic dentist, or a biological dentist. I've heard of them though I hadn't thought to search

HIYA! Yeah, exactly. A raw food dentist. I know the names of two but they're both retired. One of them put up a website some years ago. It's informative but I guess it hasn't been updated for quite a few years. Good just the same. www.wynman.com His name is Robert Wynman. He is or was following a Natural Hygiene lifestyle. If such a dentist has a website, great. If not, maybe email. If

HIYA! I am really interested in this topic. I have every intention to continue brushing but I'm curious to read stories of people who don't brush. And, equally interested to read stories from people who didn't brush, but do now. For years and years I just didn't get the message to eat sensibly, and, to brush my darned teeth. Now, boy, I'm paying the price. I'm sitting in the dentisist lobb

First, I want to ask why you chose the name. I call myself a Buddhist. But I sure don't see Buddha or buddha in myself. Someday perhaps. Second, (I'll get to the noni next), do you know of any Zen temples anywhere in the world where raw foodism is understood / accepted / practiced? Either among lay people or by ordained people. I seriously consider ordaining but balk at the idea of giving up

HIYA! I mistakenly put this post in the juicing section, I think it was. After looking for responses I saw that I'd put there though I'd intended to put it here. This section seems more appropriate. So here it is. "This section" is the sprouting section. No responses, so, hows about this section! Does soaking nuts and seeds reduce the fat content somehow? I have read that so

HIYA Loeve! Thanks for responding. Lentils, though high in protein, when sprouted, must surely have an increased carbo content, yeah? You know, I mistakenly put this post in this section when I had intended to put it in the sprouting / gardening section. So I'll copy and paste, and put it in that section. Enjoy the lentil sprouts. HIYA! Does soaking nuts and seeds reduce the fat content somehow? I have read that soaking them breaks, I think it's the fatty acids, down to what, triglycerides? I don't know the chemistry of it all. I'm just thinking that during the breakdown process, that some of the fat might be reduced somehow. In the initial soaking especially, then, by sprouting and rinsing, maybe more is removed. I

Interesting replies. I used the word vitamin loss because that's one word I've seen many times. But I didn't really think about it. So, yeah, maybe they don't vanish or anything but may just become unusable or unavailable. I'm glad to pick vegetables myself. I usually have them all in my stomach within an hour of picking the first of them. I get about 200 grams on most days. I realize that so
