B who, I don't know, whole grain is 'healthy' in todays consciousness, it hasn't undone the idea of status, or 'taste'for white flour. Well I guess in a way white flour has lost its status, as its so incredibly cheap. She could get a 5 lb sack for less than 6 oz of teff which is my favored grain. She gets some low fat flavored yogurt which she thinks is healthy. She gets these filled with

Raw4ever, and Banana who. Some other things have just occured to me. My mother inlaw commonly refers to whole grain products as 'crap'. And anything reduced fat, reduced sodium, or similiar things as 'fake'. The only possible benefit is that she avoids hydrogenated oils in margarin. My partner explained something to me recently. She is old enough to be raised with the consciousness that who

Banana who, Well, obesity doesn't spread like a virus. However, if one spends a lot of time around someone with poor eating habits, it can sometimes 'spread', especially if they are very pushy. I suppose the opposite can be true, but for whatever reason its easier to go 'downhill'with bad food habits, rather than uphill. Most of the time it takes more effort to eat healthier. I think I under

Panchito, A baby angel? you mean like a paper one? I am not sure what you mean. Well, there is a disconnect for sure. A lot of people think that there is no real connection between diet and health. Then again, a lot of people think that there is, but listen closely to what they believe is healthy. I am sometimes shocked. I myself am sometimes concerned, I have worked too much in the health f

Tamukha, Wow, azomite sounds very special. How is the wheatgrass with azomite different? Do you grow anything else in azomite? I am growing a species of opuntia and experimenting with added minerals. It grows so easily, and its rather popular now as a supplement for health reasons. The other is dandelion, and teff.

I recently read about a Nutraceutical, where a plant was provided with supplemental minerals to raise mineral content and overal nutrition of this particular plant. This is exactly my kind of thing. One definition is as follows: ""Food, or parts of food, that provide medical or health benefits, including the prevention and treatment of disease." Dr. Stephen De

hydrilla verticillata, My goldfish swears by it! I thought the name sounded familiar, and it looks just like what was in her aquarium. (she died, but at least she had access to a vegan superfood before then!) apparently its difficult to control once established. I have never heard of anyone eating this plant fresh, does anyone make salads out of it?

pborst, Great I just ordered some spirulina. I had tried it before, and noticed it did help a lot with memory and general health. Is the toxicity factor way overblown? I mean most vegetables have some sort of toxicity, some more than others. So there is never anything that is actually totally harmless to everyone.

Thank you truth 1977 for sharing. A very impressive source of a number of vitamins and minerals. That is a lot of b12, and I hope that is a bioactive form.

Intially I didn't want to mention that they are actually hiding small pieces of fish in her food, but they have to be very small. If she smells or tastes them, she rejects it. I think that since she bit into the bait with a hook, shes afraid to eat any fish. Maybe its part of the recovery process? Maybe she will eventually start to eat the usual shark diet if they leave her alone? I don't kno

Just out of curiousity I looked up vegetarian shark. There is one known! But shes not naturally so, as she had an operation to remove a hook. I can't imagine a shark eating lettuce, but there it is!

yep, just happened. And yes I did blink however brief at the very final portion of a natural yawn. What about sneezing? I think one closes the eyes during that also. But that makes more sense as the possibility of getting something in the eyes that is being expelled.

I never noticed that, but it appears that I can yawn with eyes open. I will have to take note the next time it occurs naturally. The next thing will be how to stay awake while in the passengers seat, and when I am listening to someone talk about taxes and their social impact.

No, hes not overweight. In fact I would say slightly underweight, if anything. Very, very thin. I was looking at him the other night and he just looked odd because hes 50 something, but so thin, kind of boney. I guess he just doesn't eat much, often skipping meals. I look more meaty, but I actually look much thinner than people my age most of the time. I am not sure how we do it. I guess its beca

I suppose that is why there is such an emphasis on dairy. Its in so much stuff. I was looking for a snack in the freezer section last night, and so much had dairy in some form. Perhaps they think that is how people are getting calcium, otherwise maybe most people might get zero. But this might also be because of the belief in dairy. so what follows what? So I just bought some nuts, avoiding dairy

I hope I won't get emasciated. I feel like I am turning into a rather reclucant raw fooder. At first i thought it was just an ideal, but I am finding that everything that is animal or cooked is making me feel sick. I am finding it annoying because my partner likes to go to resturants A LOT, but fruit is hardly ever on the menu, and salads are often so limited in imagination, and have a lot of st

has anyone here tried chaga? I found a source, but it said it required a lot of simmering time. Which shouldn't be an issue at this point as I am not anywhere near mostly raw. But it would be a lot more convient if i could eat as is. is there a way to eat it raw?

Trive, Well, i remember saying that flying squirels where 'cute' to this vegetarian woman, who found that something weird. I thought it was a no brainer to say that any animal was cute to a vegetarian....but I guess I was wrong!

I agree. Its made by a lot of people, and they each seem to contribute some special piece of the pie. Sometimes it seems like a 'commerical' for each particular area, but somehow thats not quite right, as its not the usual 'product' that everyone sees just everywhere. Also sometimes its never a product but a concept thats sometimes just missed or overlooked by the majority.

Chat I thought I would be clever and read up on oxalic acid. I found this very dry long winded study on calcium and various vegetables. May not prove anything, outdated? (1939) Also cooked food study on rats. Do rats naturally consume spinach? or vegetables in general? I think their natural diet is mostly seeds? So how did they get them to eat cooked vegetables? I can see how some disfavor revi

Eaglefly, Yes, its very long, i watched it over a period of days. Its long, but also very information packed. It covered a lot of new material I haven't heard, and went into depth on topics which I never investigated in depth. Very interesting. The most exciting thing is its ability to get me to think outside of the box. I have been talking to my partner about some of this stuff, and he just thi

Powerlifter, Thats a lot to balance. At times I am actually more comfortable with simple answers compared to the more complete answer, although probably more real, I fear would cause additional stress and worry. The only criticism I have of RDA is that its so recent in developement and concept. Humans have lived so long without trying to meet an ideal amount printed on paper. I am sure results v

B who, I suppose ultimately I cannot tell anyone what to do, but I certainly wish she could even consider a little wider ranger of possibilites. I shouldn't be critical as shes 83, and not very educated, highly religious traditional. If anything is something shes not familiar with in any aspect of life its immediately suspect, and very, very likely to be rejected. As far as she is concerned only

B Who, Yes, Penta produces ultra pure water and its claims that their product dissolves stones. I am not sure if she really has stones. But all the suggestions are out, she would not want to try any of the above suggestions. Shes extremely set in her ways, and I am actually the last person she would listen to for any health advice. Which is rather frustrating at times, but I have just totally gi

B who, There is a product which claims it removes mineral deposits in the body. Its monoatomic minerals, broken down into such small particles that they enter directly into the cell. They are actually elemental, as in small metal particles suspended in water or alcohol, something like that. Its probably true, but even if it does disperse deposits and stones etc...can they do harm in other ways?

Raw-curious, Molasses? Its the other end of processing sugar, where the minerals and some vitamins go. In conventional models of nutrition I suppose is good, if your not diabetic, as it still causes a spike in insulin. But as far as I know boiling is involved in the making of molasses. I guess the only good part is the minerals, if your going to have processed sugar I suppose this would be the o
