Taylor, Most of the time I have to keep it simple, time is always a factor, haven't tried anything like raw hummous yet. Did make one of those chocolate/avocado pies with the date/nut crust. Not a good idea, it threw me way off track with feeling ill and cravings (I forgot I'm not not good with cocoa). It took me 2 weeks to get back on to "normal". I did order a dehydrator, wi

I came home once from shopping, made a couple of trips from hall to kitchen, put bags on the floor and looked noticed that my little Jack Russell Harry wasn't there checking in the bags as usual. Looked around the corner and there he was dragging away a large bunch of broccolli almost as big as him. He enjoys carrots too.

Not sure but I find with my Jacks they were terrible farters when on kibble. Gas is mostly a thing of the past now unless they've gotten into something unusual like junk food or if family members give them cooked chicken or turkey. Phew!

My 2 Jackies are more hungry on a raw diet, they chomp down raw fruit and veggies out of my hand all the time now. I still give them some of my green smoothies every day as well, keeping variety in mind for them too. They love nuts but they probably pass right thru them. My picky eater Pierre, before raw, used to grab a tossed grape out of the air and mouth it possesively and carry it around f

Am new to raw food, still learning, it's been a few month with steady progress, a week or two of sliding but without this forum and all the great posts I don't think I would have made it this far this fast. This week I've had some success by simplifying and eating more, trying to do some mono meals and think I can control the cravings now. It's starting to look like this- A large one fui

Siddha, I'm new to raw foods as well but from what I've read (and you may have read some stuff by now) detox symptoms depend on the individual's current health and how much raw food they consume, how fast. I wouldn't dare give you any advice except to find out all you can about raw eating, a DR Graham comes highly reccomended, he conducts fasts and consultations. Also, here's a link on

Salad was always served with dinner, dark rye bread, meat and potatoes well done. Hardly ever soft drinks in the house. Canned or processed foods were rare. From my mother I learned a deep appreciation/compassion for plants and animals big and small, even bugs in the house were tenderly captured and released outside. Ironically, when she asks me what cult has taken over my mind, why I won't

I don't know what it takes but I would have to have a gun pointing at my head not to cave if I was cooking for my family and doing heavy training in the middle of a cold Canadian winter. I came home the other night determined to just have just one day of 100% raw and a well meaning family member had made an old favoutite baked veggie casserole, the house smelt so good when I came in out of the

If my smoothie is too thick I eat it with a spoon or add water to thin it. I love a little almond milk in some fruit smoothies too. Last couple of mornings it's been 4 - 5 oranges and 6 stalks celery. If the oranges have a lot of seeds try to remove some of them, they make it taste bitter.

Got tons of free info from his website (though there are a lot of links to his books etc). Definitely worth a look if you're keen. Got an online copy of the book only, thought I was getting the book itself wasn't paying attention. Like his point about working on your weakest link, you are only as healthy as your weakest link or something to that effect.

Chinese market near Big Al's! thanks for that info! Now I can try a durian etc. I know there are markets dowtown but that's so much trouble with parking and crowds etc. Enjoy your day off with your daughter. Don't be so hard on yourself! Later.

Sodoffsocks, Would like post a pic of before and after, my digital camera is toast, am getting a new one soon so I too can have a visual record of my progress. So I don't have an after photo yet and it's only been a couple/few of months of transitioning to raw.

Bryan, I'm feeling insecure after reading your posts about the Internet Troll. When I first discovered raw foodism and this forum I also came upon some of the Billings etc info and I admit at the time it was compelling but I did not know then what I know now through reading and my own experience. I barged in asking about that same research in a thread I started but it was a genuine att

Good article. Quality of sleep is important for me too, not just quantity. I was sleeping 8 - 9 hours but still felt mega tired in the morning. Changing my diet has helped enormously with this.

Uma said: "Maybe beatiful is just the state of truly loving oneself". I have fortunately discovered this as well, "the greatest love of all" like the song says. It's one of those key truths that people overlook because they hear it so much. Like mono-eating is a good thing. I finally hear that! And I'm going to read Graham's book. may I be safe, may I be

I work in financial services. This pays the mortgage. My heart is not in it at all, I feel like I work for the wrong side, stock market etc. I have obligations but meditation practice gives me plenty to work with in the meantime. I would love to have been a Yoga instructor. I only get to do that on the side.

Does anyone know roughly the fat content of almond milk (made with 1 cup of almonds to 3 cups of water)? It's very tasty stuff added to fruit smoothies but with all the cautions about too much fat is it a really bad idea?

Thanks for this Uma, Bryan, I am really struggling with cravings in the evenings. The mono eating message is sinking in. My thinking was that because I've been at this for a relatively short time, a couple of months only, I'm not assimilating the nutrients like a long time raw fooder with a spanking clean colon does so I've got to eat a lot of variety and quantity to get the nutrients I need,

Was vegetarian only then discovered green smoothies (Boutenko). Because I got such amazing results fron this small change I realized that most of what I was eating was crap and I knew I wanted to try this and bought my first raw cookbook and F. Patenaude's Raw Secrets. Then I found this forum. Did some reading, got over my fears of B12 deficiency and read posts here everday to motivate m

I wish I were where you are at. The colder it gets the more my appetite soars. I even ate a bagel with peanut butter this AM but if I have lots of the green smoothies the cooked food doesn't feel as bad when I have it. Can you go to work on a Master Cleanse? I was just going to do a parasite cleanse on myself and my dogs for now. Will probably attempt a juice fast but I've got to do som

Sorry about "the very hard and very sad" stuff. I went through it too and it is sad. Looking back I can't give you any words of wisdom because actually it is awful. It stinks! and sometimes you have no choice about that fact but very few people react to emotionally painful stuff by focusing on fitness and improving their diet - so you will get through it way faster and easier than m

I'm in south Etobicoke but I do go to Big Carrot . Lived in Oakville for 19 years, just down the street from Whole Foods which I also go to fairly regularly. Will have to look for the D Wolfe line. Organic Garage? Where's that? On Kerr? I am trying to get back into some kind of shape after 4 yrs of stress and separation, have joined a place close by called Take 30 but have a sore shoulder whic

Am in Toronto too, it's cold! Where do you get Lara bars? Haven't found much "raw" anything in Toronto but the staff at the Big Carrot does know what it means. But most of their prepared food that they sell is cooked. I am about 70% raw and sliding cuz of the cold. I'm so hungry! Have been there and done that with the big dump!

I've never had a problem though I carefully rinse the (naturally raised) chicken necks and backs but it's mostly to protect me from the salmonella. I even add some food grade hydrochloric acid drops to the rinse water to kill germs. Dogs have a shorter digestive tract and don't have a problem with germs the way humans do apparently and when I look at some of the stuff my dogs have gulped in t
