Mislu, You might want to check out "Diet For A New America" by John Robbins. It's a powerful piece of work. He spent lots of time making sure his facts were right, because he knew that the meat and dairy industries would come after him with a vengence. The book is divided into three sections. 1. The treatment of animals in our modern factory farming system. 2. The health benefits

I like LIVING CUISINE by Renee Underkoffler. It has over 300 recipes. Some very simple and some elaborate. It has lots of info for the newly raw - including a sprouting section. I'm also interested in RAW FOOD REAL WORLD, but have decided to get it from the library first and try it out before purchasing. But I like the recipes that I've seen on the web site. I guess they've never heard of The China Study in terms of excessive protein! Duh! We humans are funny creatures. It takes sooooo long for us to incorporate the truth into our thinking. We have to pretty much stumble and fall over it a few times before we can accept it! Thanks for posting the article, vickey. It's a move in the right direction! I'm looking forward to the day when the ma

My husband is a meat and potatoes guy too. I was vegan for 13 years before switching to raw. He didn't like it, but he's so used to me "doin' my thing" and growing in new directions, that he didn't really try to discourage me. He asked LOTS of questions and I encouraged him to read some of my info on the raw lifestyle. Thankfully he cooks, so I don't have to be one of those who are t

You can blend them up in soups to make them thicker and creamy. I've seen recipes for key lime pie using avos. You can use them to make a thick creamy salad dressing. Dang! I'm hungry now! Life Is Good! alive!

Does anyone here make up date syrup in advance? If so - how long do you find that it will keep in the fridge? I'd like to cut down on the agave that I use. I do use stevia for some foods, but still like the "real thing" for others. Life Is Good! alive!

Absolutely! And why not? If you aren't eating cholesterol, why would it be a prolem? My doctor LOVES to check mine - it's been 136 for years! He always asks me if I want it checked and I just smile and say "What for?". Life Is Good! alive!

Thanks for posting, jimmyjoe. Ignore Ian. He's just not "there" yet. Many times people go through stages in accepting the truth. Ridiculing a concept is one of them. I used to wonder (many years ago) what was "wrong" with me. So many things around this planet caused me such heart ache. I used to think that I was weak and just "couldn't take it" - meaning li

The wine is very damaging to his throat, so if he hasn't eliminated that - it's probably the #1 thing to do. I have known people who have had a complete turn-about due to a diagnosis of a potentially fatal disease. I have seen them change in such ways that the disease was later viewed as a "wake up call and a blessing". So, I wouldn't discount the idea that there could be a miracle

Hey 75%! I looked and couldn't find one. I've never made one and I'm not sure I ever made one when I was cooked. I'm just gonna take a stab at the ingredients, but I don't have a clue as to the amounts. Maybe you could just start and "wing it". I would start with lots of dates, blended with as small amout of water as possible and some lemon juice and a pinch of salt and some c

Actually, we can read up on factory farming and become informed about the absolute misery that these innocent animals go through - not just the killing, but also the entire length of their lives - they suffer. They suffer from cramped cages, they suffer from overcrowding, cruel treatment, forced feedings, separations of mother and babies, brandings, unhealthy diets, broken limbs, seared beaks,

Thanks for the suggestions folks. I was supposed to have only freshly squeezed orange juice for the first day and then the same for half of the second day - ending the day with veg. soup for dinner. I was trying to "go by the book" and had been 100% successful with the cleanse itself. But the orange juice wasn't keeping my appetite at bay and my blood sugar kept plummeting. So I add

Elphaba, I hear ya! The raw gourmet type snacks can be pricey. Do you have a dehydrator? If not, you might want to invest in one and make your own treats - you can get the flavors just the way you like them and save money in the long run. Just a thought! Life Is Good! alive!

I'm on day 10 of my first Master Cleanse. Everything's gone well. My question is this: I'm supposed to drink fresh squeezed orange juice tomorrow and I don't really want to. I've never been real fond of it and I'm feeling really OD'd on sweetened lemonade. I can barely stand the thought of drinking all that orange juice, or anything else that's sweet, for that matter. Has anyone ever broken

QUESTION FOR arugula : If almonds are soaked for say....24hrs., do they then become alkaline? I'm puzzled about this, I've read in several sources that they are alkaline to start with. But, am I accurate in my understanding that soaking, rinsing, sprouting makes nuts and seeds less acidic? Life Is Good! alive! (but feeling like confused!)

According to the folks at Natures' First Law, these peanuts are "heirloom" so to speak - nuts that have been growing and harvested by the native people in Equador for hundreds of years. One of the problems with hybridized foods is that they tend to have more mold. Since these aren't hybrids - they are supposedly without mold. Check out the web site. rawfood.com Life Is Good!

You could try the Jungle peanuts from Nature's First Law . I've tried them and they were great. They supposedly don't contain aflatoxin mold. I've been thinking of getting more (they are expensive) and making myself some spicy peanut sauce during the holidays. Blend peanuts, ginger, water, shoyu, garlic, cayenne, dash of sesame oil, dash of sweetener, chinese 5-spice

Hey tropical! Yup, you're right. I AM a closet frutarian! Once I realized that tomatoes, cucumbers, red bell peppers, avocadoes, zucchini and olives are fruits, I also realized that I was high fruit. I don't really like sweet fruit very well. Actually - it's not that I don't like sweet fruit - it's that I LOVE non-sweet fruit. I used to pass on cake or pie after a meal in order to h

I started to feel the same way. Everything was fine during the summer months - I was deleriously in love with my food - beautiful summer food! But then the colder weather came and I found myself not as satisfied. I make soups more often and warm them up to 105 degrees (got to be on your toes to not go over) and then I've been adding 1/4 to 1/2 cup of sprouted spelt, or lentils to them. It k

It CAN be! If you're on the third day of your very first master cleanse and you're standing in the kitchen mixing up your first lemonade of the day and you just have a towel wrapped around you because you just finished showering and the cayenne floats up and causes you to SNEEZE! Yup, it could be bad! (happened yesterday!) Life is Good! alive!

I would say to keep working at the raw dressings recipes. You should be able to get the same kind of taste with raw cider vinegar, herbs, sea salt, olive oil, nutritional yeast, and maybe a bit of tahini for a more creamy result. Blend the dressings in a blender - they whip up creamier that way. You might try making a pact with yourself to stay away from bottled dressings for a two week pe
