Yes, I meant kwan. I have forgiven her, I just wonder if I can have a relationship with her and if it worth bringing these things to light to her. I can't deal because often I call her and she is drunk. I hate going over there because I don't like her boyfriend. Her health worries me and I am afraid if I don't salvage a relationship I may profoundly regret it when I am older and she is gone.

My father was a raging alcoholic and physically abusive. She married him at eighteen after only knowing him a month (and escaping an abusive home situation). My mother left him when I was twelve (after 15 years of abuse, black eyes, beating her with the kids hiding in fear - even when pregnant). She left with nothing but a beat up car and five young kids. I have only seen him a couple times si

This is pretty personal, but maybe some of you can offer some advice. I am a little unsure of something. My mother was very abusive throughout my teen years. I didn't really even have a mother or many times a home even, to be honest. She was too entranced in addictions to see herself clearly. I went through a period in my early twenties when I decided to forgive her completely for everything,

I think of the term "selling" as something that involves the manipulation of another person in some form. I hate the term "selling oneself". I remember going to a class on writing resumes in college and they used that term. Plants and animals don't really sell themselves, they just live and do what they have to in order to flourish. They are honest. I look up to them.

I know eating too close to bdtime is not great for digestion. If you feel hungry would you just wait until morning or eat? Just curious.

I just watched this interview thought it would be good to share. (2 parts) "As campaign ads urge voters to consider who will be a better "Commander in Chief," Andrew J. Bacevich — Professor of International Relations at Boston University, retired Army colonel, and West Point graduate — joins Bill Moyers on the JOURNAL to encourage viewers to take a step back and connec

Thanks for the poem and your inspiration. I have been feeling some nervous tension about the future. I have also been feeling confused, with a deep urge to just make sense of everything. Yesterday I found myself just wishing that I could just see the situation clearly. I worry about the economic problems our nation is facing and what that means for myself and loved ones, who are currently str

I just recently read this qote and was really moved by it. "I know of no more comprehensive critique of civilization, this immense effort that has been made over the past ten thousand years to bring the natural world under human control. Such an effort would even tame the wildness of the human itself. It would end by reducing those vast creative possibilities of the human to trivial m

I think the most responsibility for environmental devastation falls into the hands of giant corporations. They control the ways that our planet's natural resources are used and also have enormous influence over our economies, media and politics. They also control the direction of industry and are most resistant to environmental protection. Many are far more powerful economically than many countr

Since the inception of the USA, society primarily saw the living environment as merely something to exploit, not as an integral part of existence with rights independent of human endeavors. We are at an impasse, because this recklessness towards the natural world is destroying the very bio-systems that sustain us. To me, our economic, cultural, religious and law institutions should be deeply roo

Why would they kill off the last of the wild buffalo in Yellowstone? This baffles me. It it for rare meat? Have they not learned their lesson after slaughtering off all the wolves and ruining the ecosystem forcing them to import them form Canada. I visited Yellowstone a few years right after the spring and was privileged to see many mothers with their babies. They are incredible. This makes

Part of me thinks that the food we eat will tell us if it is appropriate or not. For example, animals in the wild can differentiate between food that is good for them or poisonous by it's taste. Sometimes they will taste a berry and spit it out if it tastes bad, but if it tastes good then it is healthy. Apple seeds contain arsenic and are unhealthy for humans, and they also taste bad to us. I eat the rind of organic watermelons. It takes like cucumbers, which makes sense because watermelons and cucumbers are in the some family. I am still not sure about the seeds though.

I just got a watermelon from my local farmers market. It is delicious, but has tons of the black seeds, so I inevitably ate some. Then I started to wonder if they are nutritious. If so, why do people usually spit them out?

la_veronique - He does have a knack for saying a lot in only a few words. Even though I don't think he could condense the whole book in a poem (lol), the book is impressively short.

I am reading a book called "The Great Work" by Thomas Berry. It is amazing. He is a scholar and monk with an incredible grasp on the history of civilizations and ecology. He draws on his extensive knowledge and insight to create a vision of global healing and the celebration of life. I recommend it!

I am thinking about becoming one. Just kidding. This is a bizarre question, but I was recently thinking about this after reading about enzymes. Blood is raw and rich in enzymes and all the nutrients from our food eventually passes through the bloodstream. If we drink people's blood instead of eating, wouldn't that take very little digestion for us, the nutrients be readily available and go p

la veronique - Thats a good point. It can be a little uncomfortable asking for help, and I imagine upsetting to be "helped" like that. This person probably didn't see that his seemingly small actions do affect others and can ripple. I think it is wonderful that instead of becoming indignant your were thoughtful, able to see the deeper lesson in it.

Wow, I find it surprising that so many others had abusive fathers. My father was abusive and a severe alcoholic. I questioned what I would do if he got sick or even if I would go to his funeral when he dies. If I don't go (which I don't think I would) I know it is the right thing. If I do go I also know it is the right thing. I have forgiven him and myself. You are a good person and doing you

I was craving a smoothie, so I went to a raw/organic juice bar near my home. I lost my bankcard and am waiting for a new one in the mail. Instead of going to the bank to withdraw cash, I just grabbed a bunch of quarters from my piggy bank. There was a new smoothie on special. I was short a dollar. A woman saw me counting my quarters to see if I had enough and came over with a bunch of dollar

I don't understand how people can be in denial about humans contribution to global warming. This is not to say that climate change is not partially a natural phenomenon, but it is hard or me to believe that humans have not exasperated the problem. We have shifted the landscape (and seascape) of this planet to an astonishing degree within the past century alone. Just think of the changes from th

Riverhousebill - Great quote. Thank you. I am sorry about your dog. That is so sad! It can be so hard to have a pet die. I am sure he had a good life. Many dogs aren't fortunate enough to have owners that love them so much. Lillianswan - The quiz says I am a "Revolutionary Soul". Makes sense to me. ha ha

I am raw and recently I was attacked really bad while hiking near a pond in the woods. I have only been completely raw for a few months, so either it was because I have not been raw for long enough, it doesn't make a difference or I was just in a heavily populated area and the mosquitos were hungry. I wonder if it helps to be near a SAD eater, because than the mosquitos will choose them over yo

I don't believe I am better or smarter than most people, because certainly that is untrue. At the same time, I sometimes feel like I was born into a world of insanity. Somehow or for some reason, I don’t belong. Does anyone else feel this way? How do I make sense of it all?

I think it is respectable that the villagers don't blame and kill the animal after an attack on a child. They seem to have worked out a way to live with the komodo dragons peacefully (by setting out food offerings outside the village). This makes sense to me because it leaves the dragons no reason to come into the villages. The environmentalists are arrogant to dismiss their offerings as mere
