The only "specialists" I have seen in raw food are practicing chiropractors or nutritionists. There are some culinary schools that have a special certification offered for whole foodism.

The acid in the lemon/lime keeps the color from turning and preserves the freshness. When you cut it in half, leave the seed in the avacado and place it in a baggie or saran wrap in the frig. When I buy them, I buy 2 ripe, 2 not ripe. I leave the unripe ones in a brown paper bad in a dark place (pantry or cupboard, etc.). They will ripen nicely.

I have had 4 days of being 100% and using 80-10-10 as a guideline to keep my fat intake down (I'm still going a little over). But in 4 days, my weight is down 1.8. Prior to going raw, I was on weight watchers and was losing on average 1.6 per week so I am happy with these results, since my goal is twofold...weight loss and healthy living.

What fruits and veggies are high in protein? Amazon.com is stating 4-6 weeks on delivery of the book. I'm going to see if I can find it anywhere else. Any suggestions?

I have a supplements chart that says thay (as noted above) that legumes and sprouted whole grains are a rich source of zinc. Selenium is also found in whole grains and especially in Brazil nuts.

I have the opposite problem...too many calories. If you like avocadoes, they're a great source of health and natural fat. add more nuts and seeds to increase the natural fat and calories in your diet. Wish we could swap

Happyvegan, Thank you for your post. In the one month I've done raw and stopped weight watchers,I gained 4 lbs. Talk about feeling panic. I worked so hard to lose those 40lbs. I didn't want to put any of it back on...but I also really felt impressed that the raw diet was the way to go. I am trying to do 80-10-10 and see if that helps reduce my weight. Once it has stabilized, I know I can maintai

There seems to be quite a bit of controversy out there about 811...some who love it and some who hate it. My decision to try it was based on the fact that since I had been eating raw, I stopped losing weight, combined with feeling very lethargic. After dropping the fat (seeds & nuts) and eliminating sprouted grains, I immediately felt better and lighter...I am only 3 days in, so I can't reall

Here's my into: I was raised in Florida and lived on an island (thus the name). I now live in S. CA. I am 47 years old, have 7 kids (youngest 16 at home...others grown) and WILL NOT be posting any bikini pictures LOL!!! On June 1, I did the Master Cleanse and went raw when I came off the fast. It was my birthday present to myself. I've been about 80% since. Prior to the MC, I was on Weight Watche

2 Life Health Products (online) is a good source for comparing juicers. I think they have the best prices and you can call for even better specials that are not advertised online.

I went to 3 book stores today and couldn't find the book. I guess I'll have to order it online. Until then...I'm having a problem getting the fat down to 10% and the only thing I had today was a little avacado and no seeds or nuts. How much of an avocado can you eat to stay within 10%? I'm still learning.

Yeah...I've given it up, but I sure miss having something in my mouth. Just wondering if there were any natural substitutes that anyone knew about.

I'm going to try and get the book from the library...but maybe you could give a short "rule" list for others who want to join in, but haven't read the book.

I'm pretty new to all of this, but I'd love to form a new challenge. I haven't read the 80-10-10 book yet...just blogs. But it seems pretty straight forward and simple. My only question at this point is the large amounts of food people seem to eat at one time. I get full easy and then eat every 2-3 hours. Is that okay?

I was amazed that after only one day of doing this, my pain was significantly lessened...almost gone in fact, just a little stiffness and mild soreness. WOW! It certainly made a believer out of me. I also read that pineapple is a natural pain reliever so I'm making sure to get plenty of it in my diet daily. This morning I walked 4 miles with no pain. I will definitely continue using ACV. I want to try the 80-10-10 diet. I've been eating raw for about a month now, but think I will benefit more from low fat as I still need to drop about 40lbs. I am wondering about how many calories I should consume per day, when the regular recommendation is about 1500. Any one want to start with me...like for maybe a 30 day trial?

Previously, I have been a BIG consumer of gum and mints...always feel the need to have something in my mouth and to keep my breath fresh or to curb a sweet craving. Any RAW sugestions?

I recently sprouted some chick peas and used one of Alisha Cohen's recipes to make hummus. It made a TON of it. Does anyone know if you can freeze it...or how long it will last in the frig? Thanks.

I read somewhere to put the kale in the freezer...then crumble it before putting it into the blender for an easy smoothie...combined with banana, strawberries, or whatever.

I want to try using 1 TB ACV in 1 c of water, 3x a day for pain. Is it okay to add 1 tsp of some sweetner to help make the flavor more palatable?

Thanks for the info. I started on the ACV today and a "new" resolve to be 100% raw. I really feel that is what I need to do. Thanks again.

I only eat maybe 1/2 cup of nuts a day and usually 1-2 avacadoes...sometimes in guacamole. I think I forgot to mention occasional cheese....I've never been much for meat anyway, except I do love sushi. I just turned 47 and going raw was my birthday gift to myself. I also have some health concerns that prompted the decision. I'm going to try the ACV to see if it helps with ahces and pain. It's

Most of the nuts / seeds in the grocery are roasted. If you go to a health food store or natural market (I live in CA and we have "Mother's Market, Henry's and Trader Joe's), they will have bulk bins labeled "raw" and others labeled "roasted". If it's not labeled, assume its roasted. In my experience, raw is always labeled as such...except for any nut still in the shell.

I walk between 3 & 5 miles daily, 6 days a week. The "non-raw" portion of my diet has been 1-2 servings of whole wheat bread that I grind and bake myself, some grilled veggies...maybe some shashimi...corn chips and salsa once in a while, or a snack of microwave popcorn. It's probably the carbs in the starches....or maybe too many nuts or avaocadoes ? I'd like to hear from othe

pihourova, How long did your detox last? What is weird to me is that I'll occasionally have a "good" day and I'm trying to figure out what causes that so I can have more "good" days. Thanks for responding!

I'm pretty into fruit, but have trouble liking the taste of vegetables. I want to get into a good healthy green smoothie but haven't been able to find one that I can tolerate the taste of. Any suggestions? Is it okay to combine greens with fruit?
