Hi JB, Some peels may not be good to eat, however orange peel makes a lovely addition to tea. And a little of the zesty part of citrus to salad dressings gives intense flavour. My mum told me that when I was a child, she found it funny that I would eat the whole apple! In nature seeds protect themselves and pass out in our @#$%&, thereby fulfilling their cycle of procreation. Not sure they do m

Hi durianrider love your work and keep it up. I love how you describe your world so passionately. The only caution I would add to your point is that you got to deal with a person where they are, I am glad to hear that you suggest eating cooked food, as this can help someone like me, who was not in or near the top physical condition that you were in when you started. I live in the tropics with

Hail luvyuu Brave of you to share your experience strength and hope here, however having trolled through all the posts, I think only those who suffer can really understand or help you recover from it. I have often asked myself this question of the raw food world. I too am a friend of Bill { and came to raw food lifestle as a way to help me reduce my maximum density, which had reached gargantua

Hi mrsula, I am thinking of moving to South Africa and am wondering why you are leaving? I was there 10 years ago and although it has its challenging aspects, I found it very beautiful and vibrant. I was not a raw foodie back then yet have fond memories of the abundance of fresh cheap food (I wasn't into organic then either). I was thinking of Cape Town or Jo'berg as a place to start. Can you gi

Thank you JGunn For sharing your experience, it takes courage. I have not been around the forum for months, ( letting life take over and my recovery takes a back seat,) ever so slowly until like you, I find myself needing to get back on track. I am also faced with possible forced relocation, stress inducing, and when I get stressed I revert to what i know. CRAP food. I only been in this raw fo

The best sugar cane juicer is your own teeth. Take the skin off, Crunch, chew spit out the pulp. We can get it here by the gallon. If drinking it straight best to dilute it with water. Enjoy

Hi VegHunter Your post inspire some interesting debate. When I started 80% raw food lifestyle, 15 months ago, I ate lots of fruit and for a while that worked well until it didn't. I had to reduce it and increase fats, still that didn't seem to work for me. What I find now is that I have to pay attention to when I eat these things and in what combinations, which depends on what activities I need

I just watched a documentary called The Botany of Desire, it talks about how plants have been using humans for their own propagation and development, i.e. hybridization. Mono cropping is the problem and nature hybridizes itself otherwise there would be no varieties, and of course that is dangerous for us because if dis-ease attacks one it will get all. Society desire for uniformity and sweetnes

Hellokitty Interesting as I am thinking the same thing. Attempting the daylight diet, yet allowing myself to go up to about 8pm for my last meal. I finding more sanity eating three meals a day. My crazy head needs to know that i am getting enough. Although the food may not be completely digested b4 the next meal, it is not making me feel bloated, and in the evenings, when I get most of my cravin

I too haev started to have a problem with one tooth, it seems to be collapsing from the side. It hurts when i bite down and all food is getting stuck in it. I cannot put this down to the 14 months of a high raw live-it, this damage i am sure was done way before, when eating a high sugar SAD diet. I hate the dentist too, I heard people say their teeth grow back and heal on raw foods, anyone else h

Hi Avo.cado I relate a lot with your share. I had to get outside help with my substance abuse, including food, from 12 step programs. I know what I should do, however knowledge is not enough, I need a power greater than me to help. I have the footwork to do, which is to nourish myself with wholesome foods, the rest I leave to my Creator, of my understanding. I had to go to a professional, nutrit

Banana who The reality check was not for you, per se, just the fact that the price of bananas grown locally, is more expensive than processed and imported white wheat flour product, that flood our supermarket shelves. It makes me so angry, the systematic disfunction of agribusiness and food wastage. Life101 Thanks for the sympathy. I look at it as a positive thing as it has forced me to be hum

Happy Kwanzaa my raw family, Kwanzaa is a unique celebration with focus on Afrikan traditional values of family, community responsibility, commerce, self empowerment. It is not political nor religious, it is not a substitute for Christmas. Kwanzaa means first fruits of the harvest in the Afrikan language Kiswahilli. There are seven principles and it is celebrated Dec 26th to January 1st. Umo

Don't make raw food a religion, to the expense of your recovery. Arnold Ehret in particular, and Norman Walker, talked about using the cooked foods in the healing process towards optimal health. Your health challenges started long before you went raw I am sure and some raw food is harder to digest, esp. those cruciferous veges. So a little steaming won't kill them or you. Sounds like you have a

I have a book called 'The Permaculture Book of Ferment & Human Nutrition' by Bill Mollison. It includes recipes from all over the world. Not raw or vegan though. From reading it seems anything edible, from every conceivable country has been fermented or cultured at some point.

Banana who I live in the Caribbean. Halve my quotes for US dollars. We experience shortages in some foods because they are grown for export and the foreign exchange it brings, especially bananas and sugar. What remains is the "sub-standard stuff"' your supermarkets won't buy. By sub-standard I mean too small, not the right shape etc. Banana and sugar wars are killing the Caribbean, fr

Easy does it. Give yourself a break. My experience is my body is going to take the correct time to do everything. My job is to put in what it needs, which is wholesome food. Regaining my health is not a race anymore. Good luck and enjoy the journey.

Hey Lizard, I saw the same thing the other day in a supermarket, spotty ripe bananas were being taken off the shelves. I asked the man what will happen to them and he said they give them back to the suppliers, I offered to buy them cheap and he just shrugged, not his decision. Economically challenged I have been picking fruit out of the bins at the vendors market, I got two large ripe paw paws

Ty Luvyuu for this honest thread. I have received great benefits frmeating mostly raw, so mostly it wasn't difficult for me to stick with it. Howwever as I started to have struggles with it then my desire for cooked food came back. Cooked foods are adcitive, they affect people differently. I know without a doubt if I eat certain things I will over eat them, every single time. So I avoid them lik

Not quite the same thing. My mother told me when she was pregnant with me all she could eat and keep down was lettuce and cucumber. Seems even the feutus knows whats best. Those foods are now part of my daily staple. I was also told I was not a fussy eater, I ate everything the white rice, flour, sugar, salt, milk world offered. Especially if it was fried.

It's nice to see pics of some. That giant yellow fruit object is a ripe golden apple which grows in the Caribbean. I have to get an updated photo done as that one is nearly a year old!
