Hi, my old faithful $10 blender is starting to give up the ghost, so I'm looking at replacing it, although not sure if it's really worth spending $100s on blender when I can get one $20. Am I really going to notice a difference? Are the more expensive blenders quieter?? Which is the 3hp blender people keep talking about? Many seem to think the Blendtec Total Blender has a 3hp motor,

Hi Cherimoya! I just ate my first Cherimoya today, you tasted very good. Sun is really important to me, I try to get at least 1hour per day, but it's probably more like 2 to 4 hours per day, longer at the weekends. I think I get the bulk of my sun light from outdoor activities, running, kayaking, walking, hiking or biking. But if I don't feel like being active, I'll go and stand in so

Hi, here is the last batch I made (last weekend), it came out pretty good. Here is what I used: 2/3 cup of flax seeds 1lb of carrots 1 clove of garlic 1 tspn of hemp oil some rosemarry (either finally chopped or dried and powdered) pinch of salt 1/2 tspn baking powder I juiced the carrots and ended up using only about half of the pulp. First grind the flax seeds i

Hi Dave, what is done to the wheat germ to stop it being raw? Also, I don't believe that things need to be sprouted to be raw. Sprouted things are 'living' foods, 'raw' food are things th

Your welcome. I forgot one thing that's quite important. One of the reasons for the salt and pressing down hard part is to draw the juice out of the cabbage. If after 24hours your veggies are not complete covered in fluid, add some salt water until they are covered. Other things I remember but didn't list above: - cover the pot in a cloth secured so that bugs can't get in. - putting a

Hi Mallow, I love cultured vegatables and have just started down the path of making my own. Previously I wasn't sure about it, then a friend bought me a copy of "wild fermentation" by Sandor Ellix Katx. To answer your question, you don't need green cabbage, red cabbage is fine. In fact red cabbage is my favourite! I've just finished making my second batch of saurkraut, my first

Hi Mallow, On a side note, I thought laver and sea lettuce where the same plant. I like my seaweed with a little hemp oil. But when I don't have any handy, I go with something like, seaweed, a squeeze of citerious (lemon, orgrane, whatever) or maybe nama shoyu, sometimes ground black pepper, and sprinkling either flax, sesame or hemp seed over it. Now, if you are lucky enough to have fr

Avocado springs to mind as a high protien fruit. 2% protien by weight, 4% protein by caloric ratio. Although you are probably asking intending to go raw percentage by weight, but the humble tomato, which only has %1 protein by weight, has 17% by caloric ratio. Sundried tomatoes come in a whooping %14 protein by weight. Ian

Congratulations on making it to a high raw lifestyle. Maybe carrots, beets, onions? Nuts can also provide carbs and are low sugar. How much carbs do you need? Are you an athlete or very active and have a carb quote you need to stay above, or is this for day to day living. I had to laugh when I read the bit about fruit causing premature aging! Some how I don't think so, although I'd lov

Good point Gosia. The counter argument is based on government funded (or other) statistics claiming how much protein the average person should be consuming. There is saying I always liked which me stats prof would say "There are lies, god damn lies and statistics". I'm not saying the data is incorrect, for it's defined realm it is correct. The theory I've been exposed to is that nuts contain enzyme inhibitors, which is why they can last so long before growing (or being eaten). Both soaking or heating de-activates (kills? desolves? whatever...) the enzyme inhibitors. Eating nuts which haven't been soaked (or heated) introduces the enzyme inhibitors into your body (mainly the stomic) which isn't what you want (since you want your o

California, Redwood City, soon to be California, San Francisco. I've also spend 3 weeks in scotland (my home country) as a raw vegan. That was tricky until I discover picking fresh seaweed and hemp oil. OOOOOOOOOOhhhhhh, fresh seaweed is soooon much better than store bought dried seaweed.

Hmmmm, where to start... Most of my friends don't reconize me, in a good way. I've lost weight, at least as first. I'm not sure how much I've lost because I hadn't weighed myself for about two years before I started raw. But at minimum I've lost 70lbs. My weight dropped to 190lbs at first, now it's pretty stable (or maybe climbing slightly) at 195lbs, but my waist size continues shrink.

Well, my first thoughts are, listen to your body. Some people are sugar eats and burners, for some people eating fat and burning it suits them better than sugars. I would also say be aware of sugar addiction. I think I might have had sugar addiction problems at first (carrying over from my none raw diet), although I'm not 100% sure 'if' or 'how much' this is a real problem. Are you experi

When I first turned from lacto-ovo-vegetarian to 100% raw vegan one of the biggest challenges I faced was what do from lunch when I'm at work. If things were going smoothly, I could nip out to grab a salad from the Whole Foods salad bar. When things where hectic and I didn't have time to go for lunch I would go without rather than eat the junk food in the kitchen at my work. I would try to kee

Hi Planta, I try to varry my diet as much as possible and avoid repetetive menus/meals. I tipical day might involve something like: A cup of water. A run (1 to 3.5 miles) Fruit smoothy for breakfast (two apples, two oranges, two bananas, a chunk of ginger, a tsp of flax seeds), this is my fav. and I don't varry it much. A salad for lunch (avo, pair, basil, greens, carrot

Hmmm, I've noticed it's been a couple of days over one year since I last ate anything cooked (which happened to be a donut!). I never thought it was be that easy. I thought that if I did make it to a year, I would celebrate by having a cooked vegan indian meal ('cause I miss a good indian curry), but I didn't and really don't feel the drive to. Ah well, maybe next year. Cheers, Ian.
