Don't LOVE it, I'm passing it on to my daughter - Raw in 10 minutes by Brian Au. It's a good transitional book, I'm just past that stage & into simple raw now. Hope that helps Oh yeah and in both Paul Nison's the Raw Life and Doug Graham's 80/10/10 there are some good recipes.

How about teaching them to make coleslaw, here's 2 ideas: 1. cabbage grated, yellow pepper if you like or finely chopped celery & fresh pineapple chopped - mix together 2. red cabbage with tomatoes and oranges Another idea is a healthy pasta dish - if you have a spiral slicer take that & show them how to use and expect them to want to buy one. or peel w/veggie peeler and slice wit

While transitioning I ate quite a lot of nori. I've since read where sea veggies leach a bit of the B12 out of our systems (?) whatever, I occasionally will eat some, just don't do a daily lunch anymore. Nori rolls - Use raw, organic untoasted nori sheets & roll around 1. A large leaf of your favorite green, slices of avocado, tomato and cucumber 2. Spiral sliced - zucchini, lef

Don't you just love the texture and fun of having 'pasta' again!!! I love my zucchini and small pickling cukes (cucumbers) or pieces of an english cucumber slice up very well - I use very simple sauces to go with. The cukes w/diced (a vidalia onion slicer is great for consistant shapes) tomatoes is a fabulous salad! Oh and I prefer to leave my veggies on the counter so they are room tempera

I bought one of these round dehydrators when I went raw a year ago - it worked fine the 5 or 6 times I used it! Use yours until you decide what style of raw you are going to aim for - gourmet raw foodies LOVE their expensive dehydrators and other kitchen gagets, mainstream raw foodies have and use thier dehydrators and such off and on, low-fat 80/10/10 folks tend to keep it simple and either o

Karen Ranzi, email: khranzi@aol.com She really knows, she was raised by a raw father who was raised by a raw mom/karen's grandmother.... that's got to be a ton of years of experience!

Thought I'd add my 2 cents and a couple recipes - okay, along with this note... I love my spiralizer, using a grater does a great job making a different pasta shape as well - I just happen to love the long slurpy noodle-y fun ... note pics of the 'raw' lucks on Raw Health and Happiness Society's website (google will get you there) For a low fat raw meal I use zucchini for pasta and make one o

Wow, what a dilema you seem to have gotten into. My experience has taught me that creating a substitite usually just leads back to a problem. Create something NEW to fill the space. (In fact, I think they use this philosophy in 12 step groups) Emotional eating - well I understand that one --- I used to weigh 270#s a bit over a year ago and now I'm weighing in at 145#s, just so you underst

Happy New Years! I'm finally taking some time alone to catch up on paperwork, filing and emails/posts! The holiday's were definately busy. I had a niece and nephew visiting from Maine. They were rather shocked to see a smaller auntie and a bit curious about how I eat differently now. Since I got a phone call as soon as they got home, from their diabetic mom (one of my older sisters) -- I

Ok lets just see if we can connect with other Raw Foodies in NYC --- I'll settle for that and see what happens hunting for a good hair stylist. Geez I thought I'd have at least one hit by now... My hair used to be below my knees - natural is kewl but hey my hair grows really fast and I did loose a LOT of weight... trying something new could be kewl. So any other Raw Foodies - esp other 80/1

At Raw Soul the other night my RF buddies had choc cake -- with the cake texture. I understand that the figs in the recipe helped with the consistancy. Again, I'm sorry I don't know if MsLillian has a cookbook or not. She does teach classes I believe and she's pretty good at creating RF versions of Soul Food... there is a web site you might just google the restaraunt name.

I just met a fellow RFoodie and she uses only a coffee grinder for her 'mini' food processor - I'm going to pick one up next week and see if it fills in for the extra jobs I've been wanting to do. My equipment list: (good idea btw) Knives from IKEA ($2 -$4 sets) A homemade cutting board that someone made me its about 9" across and about the size of a dinner plate. A personal size Back

Someone was looking for a raw mock tuna recipe and other meat substitutes to prepare for non-raw folks. Here you go: Nut milk solids (ie. leftovers from making nut milks) or soaked, rinsed, dried nuts or seeds such as almonds or sunflower seeds. Add chopped celery, chives (or onions if you are still using them), grated carrots (again, if you use them), red pepper. For 'Salmon' add tomato, f

I'm wondering how people are experiencing living the 80/10/10 way? What are your typical meals & days like? Are you eating many vegetables or greens or lettuces? Are you eating mostly sweet fruits? Do you include fruit-vegy's? What is your activity level like? Are there any folks out there that aren't athletes or athletic doing this? How are you finding eating 80/10/10 has become a lifesty

I'm looking for a raw-vegan hair stylist or salon... for caucasian hair I've lost 90#s this year and am happy raw, don't want chemicals, WO wash, brush often ---- I want a like minded person to help me find my style! My hair is wavy grows fast, is graying a bit (ok I'm not 20 - more like 48) it's still long, has been below my knees in the past.... what else might someone want to know.... (thin

According to Doug Graham and others - fat is the problem that causes candida not fruit. The 80/10/10 book has all the scientific info on it. Hope that helps clear things up... My experiance is that when I was not eating nuts & seeds I didn't have a prob. When I re-introduced olive oil & nuts over thanksgiving - the next morning I had begining symptons again.... so I went directl

During the end of June, I was in Virginia Beach, VA and while I was waiting for my ride at the Heritage Book Store. I decided to just thumb through some books. I picked up a couple titles that looked interesting: The Raw Life by Paul Nison and Raw Family by Victoria Botenko... I read through all the interviews in the last part of Paul’s book and recognized names and information that I had res

Find old timers or hard core raw foodies and pick their brains (ok be gentle actually) Find your own possitive twist to self talk yourself past trinity's cupcakes or whatever your food love was/is for the day.... example: Thats a beautiful cupcake and I'm so glad that I am eating healthy and can appreciate a beauti

I love eating raw - and I love a cousin to sweet potatoes (I don't eat starches any longer) butternut squash. One of my favorite ways to eat it is to grate or julianne it which gives you a pasta like result. Then top it with orange juice or banana milk or even a tomato sauce (tomatoes & sundried tomatoes in the blender) I also have made a delic smoothie with a couple bananas & shre

I am oil free! I have never seen or heard of an Oil tree - or an olive oil tree or ... you get the idea. Oil is processed. If you take a good food and take all the stuff out of it that you can, you end up with - well something else, processed -- an olive becomes oil, fruit becomes sugar... Substitutes for oil in recipes could be any liquid that seems appropriate or even blended fruit/veg

I think sesame milk is gross (ewe - hey to each his own) Sunflower seed milk was ok when I was using it, but I often added banana or agave --- if you are in transition and want to try that it may help. If I was coaching a newbie rawfoodie I'd suggest plain ole banana milk instead... Keep it Simple Take what you need and leave the rest Lesa Oh - banana milk = blender + 1-2 bananas + w

Jan, I'm currently using Dr. Bronner's for dishes and laundry -- But I'll hunt around for recipes b/c my mom always made her own laundry pre-treatments for stains and stuff and often made her own laundry soap for delicates.... And she's not raw or vegan (go figure!) Lesa

My family always made their coleslaw with canned pineapple --- So how about just mixing the shredded carrots and cabbage with tiny pieces of FRESH, RIPE - Juicey Pineapple -- or if you want blend a bit of the pineapple and pour over the top as a dressing? If it's a day you don't mind adding fat add 1/2 an avacado to the pineapple in the blender (?) Let me know how you make out. Lesa
