Hi WY, Thanks for the input; I am still looking into "natural" alternatives to regular dish soap; not all of my family are raw foodists, so w/ some cooking going on, they think they need a little more than plain water to cut the grease, even if it is from vegetarian food sources. We don't have any Publix stores this far north (PA), we have Giant & Weis food stores, which do ha

I did a "Spiritual" fast for 2 days, about 18 years ago. It was my first fast of any type, & I really knew nothing at all about how the body worked in relation to no food. I was not really prepared for the symptoms/etc., & it was a difficult time for me. I did experience weakness & light-headed symptoms at times. Do your research so you know what to expect. I will most li

Come on guys/gals, no posts on this? What do you all use for washing dishes/laundry/handwashing-bath, etc.? I know with all the health conscious individuals on this forum, that you guys aren't using Palmolive or Dawn, or Tide. I would really like to hear from you folks on this. I am trying to cut all chemicals that I possibly can out of my & my families life, & I am sure you guys w

Hi, I was curious if any of you do oil pulling, or have at least tried it? I see different views on it all over the 'net, some pro, some con of course. It is supposed to be very helpful for a myriad of health related issues. Anyone have any feedback on it? Cheers!

Lee - "how much strength to do carrots?" Hmmm...well, I have noticed when juicing "hard" produce like that, it sort of "bumps" on the auger as the auger takes bites out out it & proceeds to go through the juicer. It works well, but was different than what I was expecting. It does require a bit more force than pushing watermelon through it, for example. Mm

Re-thinking this; if strength is already an issue, then I would have to go with a twin gear juicer; the single auger type can require a bit of effort to get food items started in the auger. The Angel's look very nice, and built like a tank. Thank is a beautiful choice if it is in your price range. Maybe Pogi can give some feedback on the Angel...

LOL, that is funny, for sure. I "re-generated" several times, & I believe I actually saw some of those advertised with the corresponding drug "cure" on my tv!

This has me so very angry; Can't government keep their slimy tentacles out of anything?!?!? One more reason to think like Joyce Riley... (The Power Hour) Problem is, with all the lobbyists, special interest groups and other dishonest entities, it would get pushed through if they really want it to. It's all about the money, nothing else matters...

Hi john, The only thing I would say about that recipe is to put it in the Juiceman's words - (Jay Kordich) "Melons alone or leave them alone". Apparently melons have their own unique enzyme structure that causes a clash when mixed with other fruits/veggies. He even says not to mix one melon w/ another type of melon. Just throwin' that out there... I notice that you like to expe

All of what Wheatgrass Yogi said. The Omega is a great choice, Greenstar as well a good one. I use the Samson 6 in 1 which is very similar to the Omega. The twin gear models such as the Greenstar will be a bit more expensive, if you are on a budget. Whatever you choose, make it a consistent part of your life; live by your juicer, it has great rewards! Jump on this & attack it with full for

Hi juicin' john! I appreciate your enthusiasm! You are the kind of person that I like to be around, one that is truly into their health. I had a twin gear Green Power around 10-11 years ago. I sold it to fund (partially) the purchase of my Norwalk. I wish I would have kept it, it was a top notch juicer. Not to say I'm not happy with my Norwalk, because I definantly am. I just like to hav

Intrigued from the response in "Rawie's" - blender cleaning thread, I have started to think about other aspects of cleaning/washing. I especially like to use "homemade" recipes instead of purchasing commercial prepared items. The "Frugal" comes out in me! For laundry; 1 quart Water (boiling) 2 cups Bar soap (grated) 2 cups Borax 2 cups Washing Soda I adju

Unfortunately, it seems that many "celebrities" or well know people attach their name to an inferior "infomercial" product; The Esteban guitar The Juiceman juicers Jack Lalanne power juicer I don't understand why the do it; Once the thing wears out, good luck locating any replacement parts. A friend of mine ordered the Jack Lalanne "power" juicer, & that

Well, I am obviously re-thinking my cleaning regimen after reading this thread. I googled around a bit and came up w/ different recipes using a variety of "safe" ingredients for making ones' own cleaning solution. Some of the different ingredients are; Vinegar Lemon juice (fresh squeezed Lemon) Essential oil, a few drops Baking soda Liquid castile soap What do you all th

I usually put a few oz. of water in mine, a couple of ice cubes & a drop or two of dish soap. Give it a whirl for 30 seconds or so, then scrub with a bottle brush, rinse well. No stains here. Every few days I will disassemble the jar & scrub around the blades, threads, etc. Keeps everything as good as new. when my old centrifugal juicers would get a build-up of mineral deposits, I w

That does sound very good! I made a Banana/Orange smoothie last eve., but the taste was a bit off. 1 Banana 1 Orange 2 TBSP Flax Oil 1 Scoop Vanilla Soy Protein Powder 4 Ice Cubes First time that I experimented with an Orange in one; I believe that is what threw the taste off. But, I will be trying yours today!

Just wanted to update for any that may be interested; I found the knife I was referring to. It is called the RAW STAR. If anyone has any experience with them, I would appreciate the feedback. Before making the purchase I would like to know if there is any validity to the claims of them being the best knife for raw food prep, as far as oxidation goes.

I came across this awhile back, but now I can't seem to find it. There is a special type of knife that is considered best for cutting/slicing raw foods. A ceramic knife, perhaps? I saw a demonstration where an apple cut with a regular steel knife oxidized and one cut with the other knife did not oxidize. If anyone knows what I am referring to, please send me a link, point me in a direction, e

Wheatgrass Yogi, thanks for the info. on the bags. When I need to purchase more, I will be sure not to get the nylon ones. My juicer is a 1993 model, & the bags might be a bit newer than that, but they are cloth, for sure. There are aftermarket Hemp bags available for other uses; I don't see why they shouldn't work for this purpose. Juice on!

Greetings all! I recently discovered this site, it is like I have finally arrived home! Great info., topics and nice folks! I have been a Raw Foodist/Vegan/Juicer for around 10 years now, and I love it. Wouldn't go back to the "old" ways for anything. Had been an "off & on" juicer since about '95 or so, but decided to go all the way to "Raw" after listenin

Hi Manolie, Thanks for that review! I will be in the market for a high end blender very soon, & after doing a lot of research, I am having a difficult time making up my mind. I like the idea of the pre-programmed settings without a hassle, so I can tend to other things. But, I also want control over the unit when I have time to devote to it. Sounds like the best of both worlds!

I agree with Wheatgrass Yogi; It is heat that destroys enzymes, not the centrifugal action. That is a very fine juicer you have there.

juicin' john posted a lot of good info. I've had many juicers over the years, centrifical, champion, single auger, twin gear, & Norwalk. Currently I am using the single auger Samson and also a Norwalk. The single auger models can give you a "workout" so you do have to cut the pieces smaller. The Norwalk is the "Cadillac" in my personal opinion, but it does require a go
