Hi Jgunn, Sorry to take so long getting back to you re: mantis's/mantids, I'm away a lot. I don't know of a color difference between the sexes but it's been my understanding that females have the more rounded abdomen. Of course I'm no entomologist.(insect specialist) brome, beautiful poppies - it's easy to see why they are California's state flower. Wheatgrass Yogi, thanks for finding us ano

What makes me smile? The kwanster I also agree that an unexpected smile from someone can do it. It seems it's hard for some people to smile. They think they have to look tough or whatever. So it's especially nice when they break free and go for it.

'Kiss this', so funny. That is a praying mantis and it looks like a female. There are different varieties of them, they don't all look the same. I'm with you Jgunn about the crotcheted tree. Really fun pictures. Kit

Oh kwan, Just got home from a long week, it's the middle of the night and I wanted to wind down a bit. This really hit the spot. Thank you so much for finding and posting this. I wouldn't have seen it otherwise. Kit

zanjabil,ILovejen,Pistachio,Jgunn,arugula,volcomchick8797,Utopian Life, lisa m, Hey thanks for your responses. I'm out of town during work weeks for a while - not able to post at those times. I look forward to folks on this site especially while I'm feeling 'harried' if that's the right word. It's nice to tune in when people are being helpful to each other...an oasis. Restaurants etc. can b

Was out of town this wk for work & went to dinner at a Japanese restaurant w/ co-workers. No salads or anything raw on the menu had me really concerned. I'm not all raw but wanted to avoid Japanese foods I used to love that send me down the wrong path. Didn't want any dietary scenes in front of co-workers either. Was thinking of giving in by ordering food I knew I'd regret. Nervously I

aralc, Every one of these responses are helpful to me too. In season now are: citrus, kiwi, avacado fennel, lettuce, spinach, collards and other greens, my garden peas are just ripening, carrots, cauliflower, (artichokes, don't know if you can eat them raw though), potatoes-I do eat them raw but I think some folks on here advise against it. Good Luck, Kit

Hi wendysmiling, Sorry to hear about your pesky difficulties. Don't know if it'll help you but when my insides feel funky often times oranges seem to hit the spot. Maybe it's citric acid that gives me the right amount of kick. Oranges are in season now too Wendy so maybe they'll be a charm. Good Luck, Kit

I would agree with fresh to eat what tastes good and avoid what doesn't. A green alternative to celery could be collard greens. They have a fairly mild taste. Maybe as time goes on you will begin to like celery more. I find that my tastes change when eating raw. Kit

EZ, I too have slipped when my raw food inventory became low. To help with this I have signed on with a farm for weekly produce box deliveries. This has really helped especially when the schedule gets tight. Now I can get by with fewer shopping trips. That's my stepping stone. And like you I'm vulnerable when I get hungry. Since I'm surrounded by SAD eaters and their food I find it best to ea

cy, Thanks for that. It's something to think about. But I understand people being busy and needing to get where they're going. I wonder if a lot of the same people would stop and appreciate in different circumstances. kwan, I've heard before that it's often less wealthy people who donate and tip more. What experiences you must have out there. Kit

Are any of you effected by the shaky economy? I am happy to be employed but our boss is taking full advantage. He has eliminated positions and simply has the rest of us making up for it by doing jobs that were never ours to do on top of what we already do. He expects us to go anywhere he sends us at the drop of a hat and to work any and all hours he decides on at the last minute. He seem

Geez kwan, poor guy, in his pocket the whole time! Bryan, nice story. I remember something similar on the TV show Northern Exposure being told by the character Marilyn.

Yes kwan, I agree. How would we have most of our information without them. What could be more valuable than learning about our health.

There are tons of these around lately. Today I ate one. Wow, all the talk of addictive food is really true. I immediately wanted more. I was able to stop myself because I remember well what kind of misery it leads to. I was really surprised at myself at how much power these things seemed to have. Now I know what I already know: next time just eat an orange. Kit

Hi cy, I care! I like the answer to the question at the end of the short video. I have two pet rats with two distinctive personalities and I really like them. I am so glad MINE are safe from miserable lab experiments. I can hardly stand to think of it. How come lab animals cant be given pleasurable experiments like a very healthy diet, nice attention, inspiring exercise...surely, if we m

flipperjan, Yeah it can sting a little sometimes. I look to this site to get support/info and to give back the same when I can. If your post is well intentioned and you get a response that's not informative or supportive, it may hurt temporarily but perhaps you can put it in a file titled 'unhelpful' and toss it. Sometimes I'll put some thought into making a response to someone so it will

That's some response. It's a nice way to remind someone they could be more respectful while keeping your own self respect. Responding in the same, or heightened , manor is tempting but I like this softer approach. Cool. If they still don't catch on... well, I'll leave that alone ;.)

To try growing potatoes again. Did it before in the ground with little success. This year I am trying a container and I'm excited to get started. Last time I just used store bought potatoes. This time I'm waiting for certified growing potatoes to be available. Kit

Brad, One medicinal herb I like is Rosemary. I used to put some in hot water and steam my face over it when I was all SAD and would get sinus infections. It helped. Since changing my diet I don't have to do that anymore but it still is a great smelling plant. It can be a nice food flavoring too although some don't like to use stimulating spices. The plant can get large so you can keep it cut

In two years I have not succeeded in going all raw but I have succeeded in adding lots of raw to my diet which is a huge improvement. I think I know that addicted feeling you mention. Speaking from my experience I'd say if you cant be perfect then just be better. Add more raw even if you cant yet give up all the cooked. Best of luck to you. Kit

For any of you who ever watch 'The Simpson's', I'm picturing that hot dog that always ends up on the Quik-e Mart floor to add to this list of hellish foods. Sadly I used to eat a lot of the things mentioned here.
