The book 'Nature's First Law' really brought home to me the why of eating raw. It removed any illusions had left about eating cooked food even though I thought I didn't have any left.

Thank you Nora. Diamond Dave heres a quote from Brendan Brazier the vegan athlete I found in the link above courtesy of Fresh. "Once I realized the value in nutrient density, assimilation, and absorption of food, I began eating in terms of net gain with no adherence to calorie consumption guidelines. Instead, I focused on consuming nutrient dense, easily assimilated foods. As a result

Erik, I inhaled 6 juicy ripe black plums for breakfast at my desk. I always come to work with organic bananas (for lunch) and canteloupes are also a staple for me, usuallyfor breakfast. I've been having fresh figs for snacks in the afternoon. Lots of local peaches now too. I'm having my green smoothie when I get home now instead of in the morning. I have more time to enjoy it then and I ge

I started by drinking green smoothies and felt so good I just kept going from there. Doug Grahams 80/10/10 mix is my daily goal. For some reading his website is: This forum is also a good place to read about people's personal experiences when transitioning to raw and I have found that very helpful and motivating.

According to Dr D Graham and the 80/10/10 formula the less fat you eat the more fruit you can eat. Many new to raw foods don't find this out right away (I was there) or worse, never find it out and that is most likely why they have problems. Fat interfreres with our bodies natural ability to properly assimilate the sugars from fruit and all kinds of health problems follow from that. Once I un

My dogs often tell me what they want. My 4 yr old Jack Russell plants himself beside me on the couch and stares at me when he knows his walk is overdue. He will often plant his paws right on my chest and stare intensely right into my eyes,it cracks me up. The older one, he's 7, barks when he wants something, sometimes he seems to be yelling, we've had some very vocal dog/human arguments usual

I use mine a few times a month, mostly to make dog treats using a zucchini base and adding some seeds/nuts and blueberries/carrots/apple, they love them. I got some new cookbooks and so I ended up using it again this weekend. I usually omit salt altogether and some of the spices and can still get a good cracker, I like them when they're fresh and crisp out of the dehydrator. I prefer them made

Flex4life, I am 5 ft 7 in and at 101 lbs right now. I'm down around 25 lbs since starting last October but I feel good though. I follow 80/10/10 too and think Mocha is giving you excellent advice. I don't like being this light either but as long as I feel good I'm staying with it. Have recently started some weight training and am amazed how quickly the muscle is coming in. I tried the hemp

Mocha, It will be interesting to see what they say when your bloodwork comes back. In this article, some may have seen this, about raw vegans bone density, at the end they say they're not sure if it's the best thing to do long term but turn around and say that if people want to improve their health they eat a wide variety of nutrient dense foods such as vegetables fruits whole grains and fis

Over a month since my last post. Am much improved, pain all gone. Am more committed to raw than ever. Once I started healing it went very fast. Have started working out a bit, am enjoying it immensely, after only 4 workouts I can see muscle definition on my legs already. My weight is still dropping, am down to 102 lbs at 5 ft 7 in. Scary, but I feel better than ever for the most part. And I l

This article I found on opening MSN this a.m. kind of got me going. It's typical of how very easily we are manipulated into buying/trusting a given product, in this case a pain reliever (who's add conveniently appears right beside it). The quotes by professionals in the medical establishment add up to say there's not much you can do about headaches really just lose some weight. This kind of a

TroySantos, I think No. 2 - he is prodding you. My teacher said more people he knows get into dietary purity than anything else. I think he said that to give my ego a (loving) knock. I know he wants the best for all sentient beings so I always smile now when I get that kind of thing and go back to counting my breath. Having said that I fully intend to keep eating raw, I get plenty of pr

Pihourova, Had thyroid cancer followed by a full removal. Discovered raw a couple of years later after struggling with vegetarianism which made me nervous cuz I didn't think I was eating right just by not eating meat. After staring to transition last October it didn't take long to feel a difference in my depression. At the time I thought I had it mostly under control because I was getting

Fuzzysox, I have beat depression (I'm one of the few women my age I know who is not on medication - or self medicating with alcohol) and nothing brings me down for long anymore. I can relax on deeper levels with relative ease now, that's a big bonus for me and was totally unexpected! Not really worried about cancer returning since witnessing these and other powerful turnarounds in my health an

My early IBS symptoms flared in the beginning too but it I think it was because I was snacking too much on nuts and dosing myself with hemp bits and sesame seeds because I was still in a state of fear about getting enough protein AND trying to quell all the cravings I had because I wasn't eating enough fruits/carbs. Seeds are not a good idea if you have IBS I'm told. I ate a high fat diet for

Melkey, I feed my guys organic raw chicken backs and necks mainly and whatever raw fruits and veggies they will take. I don't believe giving them cooked veggies can be too good though I do share my steamed vegetables with them. I also give them organ meats a couple of times a week and frozen tripe that I get from the pet food store called Urban Carnivore. Read this to get a feel for feed

Thanks EA. Am doing very well, the treatment is working well, less and less pain everyday! I'm thrilled but still have to be patient. Went to my second raw food potluck last eve and had some really good raw falafel. Will definitely sprout some chickpeas and make some. Had 'yogurt' made with soaked sesame seeds, dates, banana and lemon and water. It was real nice, sesame seeds have a lot of
