Doug Graham's raw bulletin board might be a good one because it is on vegsource, a site some vegetarians might be familiar with. Love, Uma

Eureka isn't super sunny, but an hour south in Garberville is actually a lot sunnier. Big homeschool community too, yoga, artists, etc. Climate is very temperate.. not TOO cold in winter, not TOO hot in summer. Just right. And Eureka/Arcata has its share of cultural activities. In between Eureka and Santa Rosa, there are Ukiah which has a great health food store but I don't know much about the

My experimentation, open to input: One thing I had been missing ever since raw was oatmeal. After reading the threads on grains I thought what the heck I'll give it a shot! Last night I had some steel cut oats (raw but not living) which I soaked all day, maybe 8 hours, and then blended in my tribest (low power) blender so it was still kinda chunky. Tasted EXCELLENT, felt great in my body. E

Walkern, I can relate to what you are going through. I also had bad acne for many years including cystic acne and it made me feel so depressed and in despair. I tried so many different things to try and make it go away and it seemed like nothing worked. (Although I never went as far as Accutane because is hard on your liver and I already had an overtaxed liver). I eventually came to raw fo

When I first stopped shaving, I wondered whether the guys I was dating would mind. Then I gradually realized that it didn't matter, because I was starting to attract a different sort of guy anyways, and no one since that time (maybe 12 years ago) has ever minded, in fact they might've thought I was weird if I did shave! It's an easy weed-out for the type of folks I wouldn't be comfortable with an

You said it David, not only your own legwork, but your own... buttwork? ie 2 enemas per day, including wheatgrass implants! It was a good feeling to get super greenified there. Love, Uma

Aww shucks ilovejen and coco, you're making me blush! really though those are such sweet words. ilovejen I can really relate to appreciating having inspiring women to look up to. I am still learning to trust it's OK to just be myself and not try to be someone else for somebody else. Beauty's related to that, the more we love ourselves on the inside just for ourselves, the more the beauty manifest

Yeah if I'm going somewhere with SAD folk such as family, I pretty much don't depend on the meal for my main calories of the day. I either load up on fruit before or after the meal, so that at the restaurant I can be totally delighted with whatever I get. I ask the waiter if it's possible to put a plate together of a green salad with whatever raw veggies they have available. Then at least I can c

I just tried something recently that is similar to jicama only much sweeter, called yacon. Anyone here tried it or heard of it? Also called ground apple. It was so yummy! I guess yacon syrup is a popular sweetener. But the root itself was so great, I'm going to attempt to grow some in my garden this year. Love, Uma

I remember when I used to hate my skin so much I wouldn't be caught dead without tons of makeup but of course this just made my skin worse! Let's see, foundation and cover up to cover the blemishes and even out the splotches, under eye concealer to hide the dark circles, blush to disguise the ghostly pale complexion, powder to dry out the oily shine, etc. Wearing makeup for fun is one thing but t

In my early raw days I was Gabriel's patient for a couple years so i stayed at the Tree several times for retreats and appointments and such. The food was really good but so rich and fatty I can't believe now that they served that stuff every day and to sick people no less. No wonder he had me buy so many digesive enzymes, I took probably 6 to 8 digestive enzymes with each meal. Plus I probably s

I don't have personal experience with healing scars but have a friend who had a scar disappear on raw. My understanding if you listen to the hygienic point of view on fasting is that the body has its own wisdom of what is most important to heal first so when fasting it sets priorities. I think scar healing would be a very low priority after all the organs, etc. are healed so maybe if my health go

My skin breaks out if I eat more fat than I can digest or especially and most commonly if I food combine poorly such as eating fats with sweets or eating sweets too soon after eating fats. Love, Uma

used to use it a lot at first but that was when i was doing high fat complex recipes all the time which totally didn't work out for me. now i use it maybe once every 2 or 3 weeks to make crackers or burgers or tortillas. it's fun to create a little variety or something a little heavier in the winter. love, uma

As I have discovered for myself, heartburn isn't only caused by what we eat, like SAD. It's also caused by things like eating more food than needed or eating too fast . I did a Google search on causes of heartburn and it was really helpful to read. Love, Uma

Yeah I found this out too, that I can't usually eat more than a bite of pineapple cuz it's so hard to get it really ripe here. But I had some really ripe stuff in Costa Rica and it was much much less acidic and I could actually eat several slices without the burn. Love, Uma

I don't usually eat apples besides juicing them, but I do love Asian pears a lot. They are so sweet and yum. I have tested this several times, and found out that I can eat one Asian pear at a time but if I have even 2 together, I get major stomach cramps and loose stools the rest of the day. It's too bad because I really do love those Asian pears. But, one is enough! I was also wondering why this

I like that. I have been noticing lately that if I eat when my tummy is already bulging, it doesn't feel so good but if I wait till it flattens out to eat again, I feel much better. Doesn't build up/get backed up nearly as much. I agree that volume has a lot to do with it. I don't even know if it's just calorie restriction because I could still hurt myself overeating on lettuce all day! (Yes

I have a natures platform too! When I came back from India a while back, I realized I had become so adapted to squatting that sitting on the toilet felt really wrong. I was so grateful to find their website. But, the wood blocks is an EXCELLENT and of course, much cheaper idea. Awesome. Love, Uma

I just reread Bryan's post--thanks Bryan. I have been doing low fat high fruit raw, as well as emotional and spiritual healing work. Right now, my energy is getting higher because of the love I am giving myself with the fruit and the heart opening practices I've been doing. It's like my body is saying, "OK now, here comes the healing energy for you. Don't worry, we'll take care of th

I do somewhere around what Doug talks about. If I eat higher than 10% fat my digestion and elimination seem to slow down and I get backed up and symptomatic and then naturally fall back to lower fat. I tend to mono eat sweet fruit 2 or 3 meals a day, then a couple/few times a week I'll make something fancier --a veg/fat meal for dinner like nori rolls with avocado or a salad with dressing or
