One helpful trick I figured out was to not eat foods straight out of the fridge! If I know what my next meal is hours ahead of time and it happens to be in the friggy, I'll take it out and let it warm up to room temp. Eating food straight from the fridge, especially if it's high in water, can really lower the body temperature, making you cold and creating extra work for the body to do by warming

When I and others I know started out mono eating fruit and feeling like we weren't getting enough calories, it was because we weren't used to eating the volume of food we need to eat. That's cuz our previous diets (even previous raw diets with high fat) were much more dense in terms of calories per volume than fresh fruit. Some people say, but I ate 4 bananas! Well try working up to 8 or 9 ban

Rawrrr! I can totally see you bellydancing just from your picture for some reason! Rawrrr! and la_veronique, yeah it is fun, and a good excuse to get dressed up. I have taken lessons for a few years and done some performances. Lately I am studying with a woman who teaches tribal bellydancing. That is so cool. Love, Uma

Durian, in my experience, is a good date food. It's nice & messy to eat, and it produces a nice body high and relaxed, happy mood. I think it's known in SE Asia as an aphrodisiac. One time a friend and I were eating it in a public place and some work crew thought there was a gas leak. They were running around checking all over, even after we told them we were eating a fruit that kinda smel

And when even everything else runs out, citrus keeps getting better and better. Also bananas are a big staple of mine in the winter, along with dates. I also make heavier things like sunburgers every once in a while and tend to eat more fat in general in the winter.

I did 9 days of bananas last winter and a week of watermelon a few months ago. At first I was scared that I wouldn't be satisfied but it really wasn't a big deal. It felt very healing. There should be several old threads about mono-eating experiments that you might be able to find on this board somewhere. Love, Uma

I stopped wearing makeup when I was trying to heal my acne and I realized it was just making it worse. Even the all natural stuff. I used to be embarassed to be seen without makeup, now I feel so happy to feel fine without it. I feel more real. That's just my experience. I wore some a few times over the past few years for bellydance performances, and I felt so icky, I was rushing to wash it off a

I am a total durian slave. I love it so much. But, several years ago when I first tried it, the smell grossed me out so much it made me want to vomit and I really didn't like the tastse. I tried it again a year or so later and still didn't like it. I don't remember how or when it happened but at some point something clicked and now it is an obsession of mine! The smell used to make me naus

I didn't even realize you could eat corn raw until a few years ago. Growing up I always had it boiled so I had no idea. Now we live next to a corn patch so I had many nights this summer of mono corn meals. Very sweet, very satiating, very fun. I did get tired of making scared, homeless worms though so I wasn't too upset when the season ended! Love, Uma

Wallace, I still enjoy the smell of garlic but really, ever since simplifying my diet away from spices, they are too harsh-feeling in my body. Garlic is an antibiotic, and I used to use it as such. I've moved away from that practice since it never healed me. I guess if garlic and onions don't affect the way you feel, and you still enjoy them, there's no reason to push them away yet. Same wi

I spent years wading through different approaches that didn't work for me, until I ended up with something pretty close to Doug's 80-10-10. When I am close to this I feel my best, when I stray my old stuff starts resurfacing. I can only wonder what it would've been like to skip all the other approaches and have started with something as simple and logical as Doug's, but I sure did learn a lot hav

Hmm, for that Kigelia, it says the fresh fruit is poisonous. I'm not sure if that's the one, cuz the people who told me about it were raw foodists! But thanks, that tree looks interesting.... I heard about it from some Europeans when I was in Thailand. I guess in France they get produce from Africa and that's why the person had tried it. Thanks for the tips. Love, Uma

I am trying to think of the name of a fruit that I heard about. It is a fatty fruit, it grows in Africa, and it supposedly tastes like salami. Does anyone know its name? Has anyone tried it? Love, Uma

It's true, on a raw food diet, you really don't need to eat veggies. Fruit will do just fine! It seems far-fetched at first. I tried for years to force myself to eat my veggies on raw. Life is so much easier and tastier now that I've let that externally-imposed belief system go! ("Eat Your Vegetables!!" Love, Uma

I had an interesting experience last winter when I did a week and a half of mono banana eating. I was kind of freaking out, not knowing if i could go for a week without greens. I was used to having at least a head of lettuce a day, sometimes more. I was asking all the experts, are you sure this is OK for me? I felt like my body really needed them and i might not be able to do it. But, lo and b

i just remembered why the sprite & pretzel thing was resonating with me. I loved to take a mouthful of popcorn, then take a sip of sprite or 7-up and feel it dissolve in my mouth. Kind of similar. Love, Uma

I find it strange that several of us, as kids, independently enjoyed squished bread, and more than one of us put cheese in the middle. Where did we come up with that? Howellbe, applesauce with latkes strange? i used to love 'em that way. and sour cream too. sprite on pretzels, sounds strange but i can see the appeal! i remembered another love: magic shell--that chocolate stuff you'd pour

Wow, this has been a good read. It's nice to a lot of us came from the same place food-wise! And some of them do still sound good. Some of my old favorites: *McD's fries dipped in their chocolate shake *My main breakfast in high school was a la 7-11: a coca cola slurpee and either a twinkie or those little 6-pack hostess mini doughnuts (chocolate or powdered sugar covered) *what a tre

"It's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all".... (forgot who said this or I'd give them credit) It's worth it!! I'm totally obsessed with durian and I only get it every so often cuz I'm 4 hours drive from the nearest source. But it is such a euphoric blissful fruit high, it's worth getting the addiction even if you can only get your fix every so often. The ult

147. Re: figs!
I just read something interesting on Stanley Bass's website. I love figs and sometimes I notice that when the burn starts to come on with really ripe figs, it is coming from the skin and when I gut out the inside I don't get burned. Well Stanley Bass did some observation of monkeys eating figs and noted, "I was somewhat annoyed to see them bite into expensive figs, eat the soft sweet cen

A group of us buy produce together ever 2 weeks from the same truck who delivers organic to the local grocery stores around here. We use Veritable Vegetable which has a minimum $250 to be delivered to your door and we save like 30% or something (maybe more) off the store price. Love, Uma
