Paul, thanks for your message. I saw you speak a couple years ago at the Fort Bragg Expo and the main thing that stuck with me (besides the observation about happy people eating happy meals!) is the main causes of many health problems are overeating and under-sleeping. Well I guess night eating would be part of both of those! I can really relate to your process. Anyway I feel that is so true for

michelle, you said you no longer need to be full in order to fall asleep. do you mind sharing your process around this? I often have a lot of energy at night and resort to eating something to "ground" so I can go to bed. But then my sleep is not as restful and I am more tired the next day when I eat late at night. Thanks. Love, Uma

Cherimoya: I had never thought before about Thailand importing fruit from China. That is cool, because it means you can live in the tropics but still have access to more temperate fruit. Sweet. Thailand is such a great place for fruit. I particularly adore durian and dragon fruit. Hopefully you are a durian fan since you live in such an excellent place to consume it! Do you live in the Chiang Mai

I hadn't eaten a persimmon before a few years ago myself. Isn't it funny how few fruits most of us are brought up with? I had never eaten a fresh fig either until a few years ago. Now I'm called Fig Lady. Pineapple girl: There are 2 main kinds. Fuyus are round and kind of flat like a tomato shape, and can be eaten kind of hard although they are yummy soft as well. Many people like them crunchy

Lemond I forgot to mention, I also used to have blood sugar problems and did low fruit for several years. Then I learned that I can actually do really high fruit if I'm willing to do pretty low fat, and now I'm a fruitaholic. Love, Uma

Lemoned: I did Gabriel Cousens' program and while ultimately it didn't get me what I wanted and there are a lot of things I don't like about it, I did a juice fast at his retreat center and had some kundalini experiences during that time. He offers spiritual guidance and actually has a lot of experience dealing with "problematic kundalini awakenings". Energetic awakenings can definitely

Thanks for your support y'all! Cherimoya, that is funny, they see you coming at the market and give you ripe fruit. Where do you live anyway? Lemoned, that's a good price you got. I live 4 hours north of SF, where persimmons are pretty pricey, but I was in SF this weekend and at the farmers market I managed to buy a few boxes for a great deal. Plus I was gifted some from a friend's trees. So I

I had a good experience doing this last year. I found bananas to feel really balancing. I would like to do it again this year, but I'll probably wait until later in the winter, after persimmon season is over and before mangos are available. Right now I'm about to do some serious persimmon munching. Love, uma

So, I just went out this weekend and swept the bay area clean of persimmons. Well, not quite. But I did pick up several boxes worth. I decided it might be fun and feel good to do some mono persimmon eating. I have felt so great in the past with mono diets, and persimmons are going off right now. Of course, it would kind of be a duo-diet? dual-diet? bi-diet??, not a mono-diet, because I'd be ea

Lee, thanks for sharing your experience with the oranges when you felt the need for a fast but weren't in a place to take down time. Maybe I'll play with that! Love, Uma

In my experience cooked winter squash felt similar to sweet potato. Nice & starchy but pretty gentle. Also one of the perks of eating some steamed veggies: Artichokes! That's what I would eat if I went back to some steamed veggies. And I did love quinoa. I used to love baked sweet potato/baked squash, but ever since i learned about those lovely acrylimides (sp?), baked goods don't sound as

Isn't there lots of good citrus down there right now? That's nice and juicy. when i eat enough juicy fruit, i don't usually get thirsty for water. But if i eat a lot of bananas or dates, I need to drink water as well. love, uma

Often when I would buy a few days' worth of watermelon at the store, the clerk would think i was having a party. Well, I guess in a way I was, just with myself! Love, Uma

Bananas are pretty cheap and good to fill up on. We buy them buy the box. and stores often mark down the perfectly ripe ones because to most people they are overripe. My friends and I refer to them as the raw foodist's rice. (staple item, filling, soothing, cheap) Love, Uma

You got it. It wasn't a conscious starving myself thing, like calorie counting or something. I was eating lots, but I was so controlling and judging that physically my digestion and assimilation were going down the drain. Love, Uma

Mono eating really helps me. I want to do it with bananas or citrus this winter once other stuff gets less interesting (persimmons!!). If you want knowledgable support during your mono diet you might visit Doug's board. He advises mono diets pretty often. Love, Uma

Does anybody know what that gooey, greasy stuff is that's in between the durian fruit and the inside of the shell? It reminds me of Crisco. It doesn't really taste bad or good to me, but I can't figure out what it is. Does it have any carbs, fat, or protein? Or is it just meaningless goo?

I used to be addicted to chapstick, carmex, etc. I couldn't go anywhere without it in my pocket. Then I kicked it cold turkey (er, cold bananas?) and as said above, my lips went through a period of being really dry, but then they healed and started producing their own moisture. What a liberation! I went back and forth a few times, and it worked the same way each time. It seemed to be just an add

Sure sounds like your body is trying to get rid of something! I have a friend who recently had a lot of heavy dental work--root canal--and ended up with an infection in her gums with a big open sore in her mouth that wasn't going away. She decided to fast and ended up fasting 19 days before her mouth finally healed up. All during the fast she felt her body working on her gums (and the rest of her

Several years back, I took high doses of Vitalzym for a while, maybe a few months or something. I felt somewhat better while I was doing it, which excited me. But, it didn't heal anything. Once I stopped taking it, all the old stuff was back. Whoever was selling it to me was making a pretty penny, it was some pyramid Vitalzym marketing scheme or something. Kind of weird. Since then my experience

Yeah I remember hearing that quinoa is actually a fruit (or seed?). I love that!! But then again I get confused, because some people say all grains are seeds which some people say are fruit and blah blah, I can't keep it all straight. But there is something very darn cool about quinoa. Though, I don't remember raw quinoa sprouts tasting anywhere near as yummy as the cooked stuff. Love, Uma

And if you want to check out Doug's bulletin board, that could be helpful as well. He is really an expert about raw and blood sugar issues.

117. Re: Acne!
I had cystic acne for years and even for several years on raw (high fat, complex recipe, salt, spice, oil raw that is), it didn't clear up. Only when I went to a high fruit low fat diet following food combining, did it really make progress. The people who tell you the fruit is the fault don't know about the effects of the interaction of fruit and fat when eaten together or even within several

I got this when I went to Hippocrates Health Institute several years ago. When I was last eating cooked, quinoa was my fave grain. So sweet and nutty. And supposedly one of the only grains that's not acidic. Love, Uma "Cooking Livelier Grains" Instructions for cooking millet/quinoa: The night before you will be using them (or in the morning if you will be preparing the

My brother had his first baby a few weeks ago, and although he is mainstream healthwise, he says he is open to parenting advice. I thought I would direct him to some literature about the dangers of vaccines. We have a nephew with autism, so if he is convinced of a clear link between the two he may take it to heart. Any advice much appreciated. Love, Uma
