Hi Stacy, Whats great is that you are persistent and patient in your quest for excellent health. It doesn't matter how many times one falls off the wagon. What matters is that one gets back on. Welcome back again to the world of raw foods.

The 80/10/10 Diet is a very good book about how to eat a healthy (and there are a lot of junk food) version of the raw diet.

Check out "Healing Cancer from Inside Out" a DVD by Mike Anderson. This DVD shows how diet is a critical factor in getting cancer and how a raw diet is a factor in healing from cancer. Also, there is a raw food oncologist named Dr Thomas Lodi, who has some videos on YouTube that talks about his approach to healing cancer with raw foods and some lower impact therapies.

There is no definitive answer. The issue is that most people start of with the Standard American Diet, and moving to a healthful raw diet is a very large step. There is much healing that has to happen before being able to move from a high fat cooked diet, full of foods that stimulate or numb the body, into eating foods that offer none of these emotional aids. Long term on the raw diet, you wa

Yes, perhaps that was a bit strong. For people with real need, I certainly don't have a problem. But what I find distasteful is the pushing of digestive supplements and aids to a population who don't need them, but are instead trying to eat foods that are not compatible with the human digestive system.

I don't buy the whole raw theory of enzymes in raw foods being beneficial. Especially about the part where the enzymes in the food help digest the food when it is in your body. And more distasteful to me is using enzyme supplements to digest your foods. When enzyme supplements are necessary, this means that a person is trying to eat foods that don't digest well for them, and perhaps they would be

The secret to healing is to reduce the energy expenditures your body needs for its daily activities so that there is extra energy available for healing. The way that raw foods can potentially use less energy is that they can be less toxic than cooked foods, and they can be easier to digest than cooked foods. Foods like fresh fruits and tender leafy greens are easy to digest and and have f

When the body can't tolerate fruit, it can be better to include some cooked starches in your diet and keep the diet low fat than in would be to eat a high fat raw diet. For example, it seems that a diet of raw vegetables and salads and some steamed root vegetables is going to be much healthier that the standard raw diet with a fat intake in excess of 60% of the caloric intake. To make the

I have experienced improvements in the brain and the entire nervous system from raw foods. No more brain fog, no need for coffee to compensate for fatigue from digesting cooked foods. My senses are heightened from the raw foods.

For a raw foodist, I don't think that number is too low. Its just compared to the SAD eating population, that number looks low. The question is, how do you feel?

Adding more fat to your diet will only add fat as extra weight. To gain muscle, you need to do some anaerobic exercises and make sure you get plenty of rest and sleep.

Learn about food combining. Practicing this will give you the best digestion when you eat your raw foods. Eat a lot of fruits and a lot of salads. I get over 80% of my calories from fruits. I recommend in the beginning to eat a lot of greens, as the minerals in the greens will help you with the deficiencies that were part of the cooked food diet.

For cooked vegan, check out Dr Joel Fuhrman's "Eat To Live" or "Eat For Health", or books/DVDs by Dr John McDougall. Both these medical doctors promote a low fat whole foods vegan diet. A diet such as this will heal Type 2 diabetes.

Hi Mona, I think met you and your husband back in the late 70s in the bay area. I had a guitarist friend named Tim whose brother Thom knew and perhaps even played in a band with your husband. His name was Michael and his wife was Mona. If that's you, then its a small world indeed.

Mona, With 80-10-10, its not necessary to get more protein. The recommendation is 10% protein maximum, 10% fat maximum, and 80% carbohydrate minimum. Dr. Graham recommends getting 5% of your calories from greens. On a 2000 calorie a day diet, this means 100 calories, or a whole head of romaine lettuce. In general with raw foods, its hard to find a food source that has a significantly hig

For someone deep in a western medicine procedure, doing the "raw" or "natural hygiene" style healing may not make any sense, since the diet is basically SAD and the body is under heavy medication. What does help is to keep up the spirits of the sick and to share love with them. Its more the mental and spiritual health of the patient that can bring a person back to health as

One thing that really helps the body cleanse (and then lose excess weight) is to not uses spices and condiments. So this means no salt, peppers, spices, garlic, strong herbs, etc. Salt is a big offender, as it keeps on extra water weight. And eating fats can keep some women from losing weight (men don't seem to have this issue as much on raw).
