I find that I can never use a whole "bunch" of cilantro before it starts turning black (dark green?). After I buy it, I typically wash it and lay it out to dry for several hours. That definitely extends its lifetime by a few days, but still not long enough. I run into a similar issue with spinach, but less frequently, as I'm usually able to eat it all sooner. I also notice that spinach

I've been told I should peel cucumber skin because of the way cucumbers are treated to keep them "fresh". Or, if I don't peel them, that I should scrub them very well. How exactly are cucumbers treated? Both organic and conventional. I haven't noticed any difference between the two. I like the skins, so I don't peel them in situations where the toughness of the skin won't become a

@Krefcenz, I was referring to you *and* others in both cases - no difficulties here. I actually don't like labels. It categorizes people as if they are only one thing or another. Others begin to have certain expectations of them based on that category. I was never a fan of that. I don't even like the terms (categories) boyfriend/girlfriend. People wonder why, but the reasons are obvious when othe

The quotations were merely there to identify it as a phrase I typically do not use, not to imply that you had used it. Many terms originated as very specific ideas. Over time they tend to broaden. Maybe you could try referring to yourself as a Fundamentalist vegan? It works for the Baptists.

I think it's dangerous to hold people in such high regard, that it disappoints you to find out he/she is not exactly what you had imagined. In my opinion, a lot of people here are on the verge of fanaticism when they speak (type) in a manner as to look down on others for their decisions. You are disappointed because you thought he was 'better than that.' People like this man are idols in the m

I was at Whole Food's today and noticed this beverage labelled "Organic & Raw." The primary ingredient is something called "Kombucha," which according to Wikipedia is a fermented tea-based beverage. What are your guys' opinions on this? Have any of you heard of it? I did buy one, and I thought it was pretty good. I noticed on the label that is said it contains 20% of

The kimchi I saw only had shrimp in it at one store. The one at the other asian store did not. But knowing that it will not be raw is good to know. However, the raw-ness of some of the other ingredients were questionable as well. So, obviously I didn't buy any. Making it myself would be interesting, as would making some sauerkraut. Thank you all for the input. I believe I got answers to all

Have any of you had experience with Kimchi? I know there are different variations with different ingredients. Is it typically kind of like sauerkraut where each separate ingredient is raw? Is it too heavy in something that makes it unhealthy? And, I know this is a vegan section, but there isn't a non-vegan raw food section here. Let's say a kimchi has shrimp in it, is it likely to be cooked shrim

...I think this idea is inherently flawed. People typically like variety, so no matter what the food is, if they eat nothing but one thing for three days in a row, they will be (mentally) sick of it. I love hotdogs. But I like my hotdogs with raw onions, mustard, celery salt (as a minimum), or chicago style with lots of vegetables. If I ate that combination of foods for three days, I can almost c

I'm sure this is nothing special for any of you who have been eating raw for a long time, but I just wanted to share my version of spring rolls that I've made recently. For the wrapper, I found a wheat-free spring roll wrapper (rice paper). As a base, I used large romaine lettuce leaves, or multiple smaller leaves. The filler, cut into rods: avocado, cucumber, tomato, green onion. Bean sprou

I've noticed there seem to be different colors of peppercorn. Black, White, Red-ish/Pink/Orange ? So I have a couple of questions. Is there any significant difference in flavor between them, or are the colored ones just "pretty"? And, is all peppercorn raw friendly? Is it all dried the same way? What makes red-ish ones colored, and should I avoid that variety?

I wasn't really "worried" - especially for a two-week period. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't leaving out something very important. For example, I'm not going to mess with figuring out how to eat potatoes on this diet, and that's something I eat quite often (not fries). So, yes, I did eat a lot of junk before, so this is definitely an improvement. But at the same time, I ate other t

After that, I will be on a two-week raw diet, followed by what I hope will be a healthy combination of raw/cooked. I know for certain that at least for now, I will not be into complex recipes. I will not be dehydrating thi

Question. Why has the average life expectancy gone up, rather than down, if food these days is getting worse and worse? I understand that life now is easier than it was. There are more people, a smaller percentage of people go to war, so more people live longer. But I'm sure diet has at least something to do with it.
