It's full plum season in my farm right now... Every day, plum lunch. I have about 5 different kind ripe right now, some round, some elongated; some yellow, some purple, some greenish; some big, some small; but all really tasty! The only "problem" if it was really one: birds love them too ;-)

For all of you who are enjoying the delights of the summer watermelon, I just wanted to share that I'm about to pick the first watermelon from my farm! This year, the first one will be an african white, icebox size with white flesh. I can't wait for my Ali Babas (a variety from Irak with an almost white skin and very dark red flesh) and the Orange ones. And all the melons are coming close too...

Just take whole foods, nothing prepared. It's it looks liquid or gel, they will have you throwing it away. But they won't ask you to throw away an apple or a banana (except if you are flying from abroad and entering the US... no fresh stuff in that case what so ever). Otherwise, it's just a good time to go for a short time fast!

In winter, I can have a meal of 7 or so bananas. But in summer, I pass in front of them, and don't feel any desire. Don't try to think in terms of "I have to eat that amount of -- every day". Just go with your feelings. If the food you are mostly attracted to is bananas, have them. If you have too much, your body will tell you. But also, let your feelings speak freely, and don't leas

That's why we decided to move to a place that we can afford without loan, and where we can grow most of our food. For us, it was the only way to live according to our ethics.

I think since our environment is so polluted, especially when you live in a city, or a prebuild house, you'd better get organic to at least get some relieve to your body and natural filters. Cost shouldn't be your concern over your health. If you need more money for your food, take a close look at your budget and do some cuts on the unnecessary stuff, like that cellphone, the big TV... Also, w

Just to share some thought and experience. For me, that test means nothing. How can you test somebody health on one single blood test. That's completely unscientific. The error rate on such test is large, and you need to repeat them over several days to get a real overview, and not a biased one. Clement protocol would not pass any editor in any medical journal for sure. I worked in research, and

For sure, the non raw med sounds less aggressive in his diagnosis... One thing strikes me on the aliveraw website: it's just a store selling supplements. Sorry, but it really looks like it, a store with some advice on why you should buy the products...

SoCal is great for its weather for sure, but if you plan on moving there, keep in mind that it's a desert fueled by the colorado river, and the level of the river is going down dramatically. Just ask the mexicans on the other side of the border who can see the river recessing every year, and not reaching the gulf anymore. I know some farmers over there, and this year, they can use only 70% of th

We were living in California, and about 2 years ago decided to move to Spain, Andalucia. The climate is somehow similar to souther california, but closer to our roots, we are french. We liked California, had plenty of friends over there, and still have. But land was just too expensive there, so we relocated. We quit our jobs and decided to live a simpler live and bought some land to grow our foo

That's one of the reason why we decided to move to Andalucia, south of Spain. We can grow veggies year round, and grow different kind of fruits all year long, and get locally some tropical winter fruits as well like mangoes and cherimoyas.

Almost every day. About every 2 or 3 days I go for a 30 miles mountain bike ride, and the other days I work out weight or bodyweight for at least an hour. And in the meantime, I have plenty of exercise since I'm building my house, and doing lots of agryoga (meditation while farming ;-))

Right now it's all fruit around us in the farm. Apricots, plums, cherries, peaches, small pears (early variety), and now figs! We can just walk around, and eat from tree to tree, then, stop in the veggie garden for some greens. The summer sounds good, with all the watermelon, melon and tomato plants we put in the ground! Can't wait.

So far there aren't so many gmo crops on the market. But there are some big ones, like soy and corn, canola. There is also some gmo potatoes, and one gmo tomato. But the gmo tomato did last long, simply because nobody would buy it, it was so bad, even if it could ship so much better than others (only big corp interest). They tried to introduce the gmo wheat to the market, but the farmers have sai

So far, most gmo were developed to sell more roundup or other herbicide, and not to increase production or nutritional content. Two different studies over three years have shown that gmo soy has a lower yield than the traditional ones, about 10-15% lower. So that doesn't sound like a real good idea to feed the hungry world... Also, all the farmers who fell in the gmo trend agree that after pla

I was in, and broke it this morning 10am Spain with a wheatgrass shot, and some strawberries, cherries and plums from the garden. I was at a seed exchange event, so busy all day, and not so difficult to go on. Now, I feel ready to go prepare the 2 double dug beds I planned for today. Cheers

Actually, breastmilk is not as simple as a mix as you think. Its composition changes as the baby grows, and also, for each meal, it starts sweet, and ends fatty to satisfy the baby. So it's not really mixed all together, unlike powdered milk for babies.

Freezing in the greenhouse will depend on where you live. Don't expect a greenhouse to still work warm in Antarctica over winter time. South of Spain where I am, it works very well over winter, but it doesn't get below freezing more than a few nights during the year.

Grow light will cost you in electricity. Doesn't sound like a good plan to me. Building a 10x15 feet greenhouse costs nothing. What I would suggest is that you prepare a double dug bed the size of the greenhouse you want to make, and then simply get a few PVC tubing and a clear plastic tarp. Plant some small iron poles in the ground, sticking out about 1 feet. With the PVC tubing, make a house

Still, in their "natural state", some produce have hidden chemicals to them. Like non-organic oranges and apples are waxed with petroleum based wax... Organic ones aren't.

"I did some budget reshuffling to start buying organic when available. " Same thing Phantom. You are in a different spirit than most people. I found that most often people complain they can't buy organic food because it's too expen

I'd like to know how people feel about being vegan and consuming conventional produce, i.e. potentially grown with harmful products for insects, but also for humans such as the farm workers exposed to them? For me, non-organic food is not really vegan. Just look at non organic bananas and how the workers are being sprayed from planes without warnings. Or non organic cashews in India, and all the

I grow mine and eat it right off the plant. Sweet. In the US, I'd be really careful buying corn, organic or not. Corn pollen is so light, it can travel for really long distances, and there is so much gmo corn growing, that I think it's virtually impossible to find commercial organic corn that has not been contaminated. Your best guess is to try to get some from a local farmer growing corn far fr

The aflatoxin only develops on the peanuts over time. It's a mold that develops when they are stored for a long time. So the ones you can get in store may have some if they are not fresh. But if you get fresh one off the ground, they don't. You just have to get fresh stuff, and not long stored ones. Just like for veggies and fruits.
