I grow mine, and eat them fresh. They taste good, not starchy at all. Maybe the ones you get in stores are too old and get rancid.

If you live in Canada, you may want to look into wind generators because your sun exposure may not be great (short days in winter time). And if you are in an urban area, or with turbulent/turning winds, look for vertical axis wind generators, they would be more interesting.

Wendi, you can tell your husband that depending on the location, even off the grid, you can still a relatively high tech life. To give you a few examples, even if we live 3 miles away from the first paved road, in the middle of a cork oak forest, with a large orchard and veggie garden, we still have high speed internet and a video projector for our private movie nights. Just need to put enough so

I already live off the grid with my wife and our baby to come. Electricity from solar panels and a wind generator in the making, and water from the stream that we have to catch upstream and drive to the house. We produce almost all our food on the land. We have a website, but not finished yet, and mostly in french for now, sorry.

I live in a place not connected to the grid. So our electricity comes from the solar panels. The only electrical stuff in the house are lights, computer, stereo, laundry, and power tools for building. Foodwise, nothing. The green juicer is manual. Living out of the grid, you learn to save.

Lack of love and compassion to animals... I have a hard time to accept this. Sorry, but we are animals too, and we live surrounded with animals. We can make some choices like not using them in a harmful way, and other humans too. But we have to keep some basics in mind. To get organic fruits and veggies, we need some inputs from some animals. Conventional farming grow stuff from petroleum deri

BTW, I wanted to say that I'm not telling anyone to eat or not honey or whatever. It's up to you. Personally, I don't even eat honey. I just want to show people that the vegan issue should not be focused on harming the animals or not so much. It goes well beyond that on the environmental issue of course (lower impact of the vegan diet compared to the carnivorous one), and on the social issue as w

Albert Einstein just said that without bees, humanity would have 3 years left on this planet. Anyone working in a field knows that without bees, no pollination, no fruits. That's just common knowledge. I never said that their is no fair trade fruits and veggies. Remember, I run a farm, organic, and I worked in organic farms in CA. I know what I'm talking about. I just like people to think abou

Never forget that if we don't have bees, we don't have fruits... If we didn't have beekeepers, we wouldn't have enough bees around for a good pollination. On our place, we have beehives, to increase the pollination in the garden and the orchard. We feed them honey during the winter, their honey. We harvest the honey, and share with them in a way, since they produce way more than they use during t

All depend on your goal. Do you want to be healthy and live in a healthy environment and give a nice place to live in to your kids, or you just want to save a few bucks. Of course you can't get high quality strawberries in march. Spring has just started, and strawberries are NOT in season right now. So they can't be good. Maybe you should try to get your food from a farmers market (especially i

To challenge someone this way makes no sense to me. You can cheat on a blood test by many ways. I tried, and it works to show it doesn't work. Drink a lot of water before the test, and they will declare you anemic, low in hormones, etc etc. Go there without drinking for a while, and miracle, all your day-before low levels are normal... they want to show you you have parasites, fast for a few da

Raw in Mexico is pretty easy, as long as you eat fruits! There are small covered markets with fruit stands in every town and village. Ask for the market, and you will find plenty of food. And there are also tons of fruit juices bars, usually blending fruits, veggies and so on.

I used to be a research scientist at the university in San Diego, CA. But now, I retired to a more simple life, at 29. What do I do for a living: grow my raw food on my land in southern Spain. Makes more sense to me on an ecological point to live more locally, especially with peak oil coming in ;-) SGC www.el-camacho.com (still under construction...)

Actually, she does feel better eating more fat. I don't think there is a definition of "high" fat, but she feels better on a higher fat diet. I think it ;has o do with hormones. If I remember right, woman hormones are synthesized from fat.

My wife and I have been raw for almost four years. But when she was eating low fat, she lost her menstruations, and thought it was cool not to have to deal with it anymore. At that time, we tried to have a baby, but it never worked. Over the last year, she started eating more fat, and her menstruations got back, still 100% raw. And now, she is pregnant. I can't tell if without menstruations she

I'm French too, in France right now, but in Spain next week. I bought some land in Andalucia, and will live there with my wife. The raw community in France is not very spread out, since most people think it's a cult... Too bad. And I don't know any raw restaurant. But to order fresh food and tropical fruits, you have Orkos delivering to your home. Otherwise, you can also check Balta's website,
