Hi Mislu-- I'm having trouble getting back into it, too. I feel so much better when I eat all -- or even mostly -- raw; it's just a matter of doing it, of reprogramming myself to start the day with a smoothie instead of potatoes and eggs, eating salad instead of fries at work, etc. I'm setting small goals for myself (breakfast smoothie, no fries, and lots of raw foods with all my meals), then

I'm a farmer in Mass. For our starts, we have a big metal rack (commercial grade stainless that you can get at Costco for $80ish) and we attached cheap 4' florescent lights to the undersides of the shelves. The shelves should be adjustable for different heights as the veggies grow. We attached a timer to the lights. We don't cover the sides of the shelves because the lights do the trick. (It's fu

Yeah, I'm in Western Mass near the Vermont border. There's a few raw foodies around here, and we're starting to put together some raw pot lucks. The first one was on New Year's day, but I was sick and couldn't make it. About ten people showed up, and I hear that the food was phenomenal! PM me if you're interested in attending the next one. I think it is on a Saturday night, which conflicts with m

Hey everyone!! I've been lurking about over the last couple of weeks. Wow -- new peeps on the forum! Yay!!! I've been very lax with my consumption of food lately, and my body and psyche have been suffering as a result. I have decided that on the 1st I'm going back to at least 80% raw. I miss how I feel when eating raw. Two years ago I lost 25 lbs. and probably 15 years off my looks. Now I l

I think that ultimately my purpose is to embody love as well. I think that how I do that evolves as I go through periods in my life. I think it starts with self love and self care, because you cannot love others well if you do not love yourself (as in parenting yourself well, which is especially difficult if one has not been parented well). This is my biggest stumbling block right now. there have

Eaglefly, I think the answers to both your questions is yes, although there are def. other factors. I think when you eat this purely, your mind is more clear and able to go into places like this than when it is clouded because of eating crap.

Congrats!!! I don't know what we'd do without two fridges! We have a farm, and we had to build a walk-in fridge in the shop because two fridges weren't enough. our electricity bill is pretty high, but as soon as we can afford it, we're getting solar panels.

Oh yeah, we're growing pumpkins too. Jgunn-- We're mostly using organic seeds, though there are some hybrids, like sungolds, that we use because they're so dependable. My first choice would be to use 100% organic. We do save seeds.

Yeah, great thread!! My partner and I are currently growing tomatoes (we started with 40 kinds, but a lot of them got taken out by late blight, potatoes (some late blight here as well), six kinds of basil, tomatillos, husk cherries, wonderberries, onions, garlic, shallots, peas, zucchini, zephyr squash, other heirloom summer squash, several kinds of winter squash, broccoli, collards, kale, ch

Yeah, I notice it too. I'm from California and live in New England. I was amazed at the rigidly uptightness of people in general when I first moved here. Nice people once you get to know them, but I miss the smiles and "Hi"s and general laid back atmosphere in California (and the weather!!!).

Deafdrummer -- I know what you mean! by the time my mom was 56, she had lost everyone in her generation. It really devastated her, but not enough for her to correct her bad living habits (SAD diet, no exercise, not listening to her body, etc.). Now, ten years later, she is losing her vision, cannot drive, and can barely walk. It's really sad. Makes me want to be more diligent, especially since I

Great thread! I have four kids whose eating habits ran the gamut when they were babies. One of my kids didn't eat much until she turned one, and she was fat and happy on mostly breast milk. My kids all ate lettuce, raw carrots (grated), etc. after they turned one. My little one even ate raw onions and radishes! Everyone's suggestions here are great. Once your little one turns one, you can worry m

We grow greens and starts indoors in the winter and early spring using cheap florescent lights that hang off the shelves of a metal rack. It's fun to watch the cops drive by real slow!

I think herbs are great and use a variety of them for a variety of things. Learning about them is fascinating. We're significantly expanding our herb garden next year.

I drink wine. Non-organic wine gives me hangovers, or at least leaves me foggy, even if I don't drink very much. Last night my hubby and I had some organic wine with a belated birthday dinner, and I felt great when I woke up this morning. Definitely, if you feel unwell with it, don't drink it.

It's been a while. We're losing our tomatoes to late blight, but everything else is well on the farm. I went to an art show two weekends ago in Philly and they had toxic carpets. I'm still congested and nauseous from the formaldehyde. I wish I had known about them because I wouldn't have gone. It was really poorly attended too, thanks to the economy, but I met some great people, and I had never b

LMAO!!! Living without tropical foods -- that's a tough one. We try to not buy them, but we do take the culled tropical freebies that would otherwise get tossed at the co-op where my partner works. We want a solar powered house on wheels too -- one of our dreams! We actually looked at an old ambulance for sale yesterday that this old guy had turned into a camper. It would be our farmer's market r

Yes. I believe that we have guardian angels (spirits) who do not always have the power to keep us out of harm, but nurture our souls when they cannot. I also believe that my little daughter is an angel, because she was sent to me five years ago when I was becoming very selfish and needed something to snap me out of that mold, as was my oldest son twenty-nine years ago. They also both have very an
