"Garden of Eden Raw Fruit and Vegetable Recipes" and "Your Natural Diet: Alive Raw Foods" arrived, and I've been devouring them-- which is a funny word to use, being that I'm on the 4th day of a water fast. I counted almost 300 recipes-- they look wonderful, and should be a real help to any of us who are getting a little bored with our present raw food diets. "You

Hey everyone, I'm on day three and I haven't passed out yet. ;-p Woke up feeling a little weak, but got my blood moving and went out and did some needed shopping and walked a lot. I started a fasting journal in the 'diary' section, but decided it would be easier to put it on my blog, so here's the link: From here on in I'll only post a brief update here once every few days.

I find I still get gas sometimes even eating all raw if I eat meals too close together, eat too much, or eat stuff that's too dense. And it goes without saying that bad combinations will cause gas. Hope this helps.

Hi Sachelle, Thanks! But nah, I'm just a nitwit who doesn't know any better than to start a fast when it's 10 degrees outside. ;-p Good luck with your summer fast. Love, joy and peace-- Sharrhan P.S. Feel free to visit my blog (see link above)-- I'll keep journaling about my fast until I'm done.

Hey friends, My fast is going well- day 2 and my energy is still going strong and I'm not hungry. I decided to move my fasting journal, which I started here in the 'diary' section, to my blog. Here's the address: Hope to see you there!

Today's Day 2. It's going well and I can hardly tell I'm fasting so far. I'm surprised and delighted. For the sake of ease, I've decided to move my fasting journal to my blog: Hope to see you there!

I have started a fasting journal in the journaling section of this board if anyone's interested in reading it. Gotta get a new pic-- sick of seeing those silly sunglasses!!!!

Gossia, Believe me, I love to eat too-- still do overdo from time to time. ;-) When I was younger (late 20s-early 30s) I was a walking yeast factory (from childhood antibiotics) and had hypoglycemia and mental fog, etc., etc., so I struggled and often failed miserably in my attempts at a raw diet. (Plus this was before hardly anyone was into it!) Necessity was the blessing in disguise that p

I've been fasting almost 24 hours. (Yay!) I want to fast 21 days, but that's negotiable-- it's up to my body. I have a slow metabolism and long fasts don't make me gaunt or overly skinny. Whenever I finish a good fast I almost always eat (and enjoy) a really good raw diet and instinctively know what foods I need. If the fast is a long one I'll have to ease very gradually back into eating

Day One 10:45 p.m. Wow, this is really nice: Usually it takes me 3-6 days to get into the 'feeling' of fasting-- that unmistakably mellow, soft, loving, flowing kind of energy that envelops you as you move deeper into a fast. But it's been less than 24 hours and I'm definitely feeling it already, and it's a wonderful thing, a distinct energy that I only feel when I fast. I'm usually a littl

Hi Alice, I don't have any really big health issues-- just minor ones. . .but that's why I love to fast, so that the 'minors' don't become the 'majors.' ;-D I'm 57 and lately I've noticed a slight qualitative change in my hip joints-- they're still flexible and everything, but something feels slightly less springy and vital, so that's one thing I know fasting will help enormously. (My muscles an

Day 1 5:23pm As I settled into sleep last night at the beginning of my fast (which began at 12 midnight) I had a little insight that I think will be a major touchstone for me on this fasting journey: When we're flowing with the Current (the Tao, the Spirit...), surrendering to Its wisdom, everything clicks. We still have challenges, but harmony prevails and we know what to do and we prevail.

Hi Tristani! I hear you-- I know how easy it is to binge. The best way I've found to control the urge to binge is to do some preparation: a few days before the fast it's good to start eating less dense food. Then eat fruit. Finally, maybe even just drink juice for a couple of days. THEN I find if I start my fast at that point, I'm much more likely to have the self-discipline to stay on course

Day One 11:47 a.m. Well, the senna herb tea certainly did its job. I had several eliminations this morning and I'm not hungry at all. Usually the first couple of days are pretty uneventful. I'm really hoping that day three is easier this time, as well-- that's where I've gotten snagged in the past. Day three WILL be easier this time. I'm sure of it. I've been thinking quite a bit lately

Hi Taylor, Thanks for the encouragement. Yes, it's really hard at first to do water fasts-- heck, it's hard even after years of raw, lol! It's much easier to do a juice fast, but it's so messy and expensive, and takes longer to get results, so I just try to tough it out. ;-p I've been raw since the early 1980s, except for a brief period in the '90s when I got all confused and wasn't thriving,

I've been preparing for a water fast this past week by having smoothies and fruit. Tonight I had a cup of herb tea with senna in it, and around 11:30 I'll have my 'last supper' of mango/clementine/kiwi smoothie. I will miss the frozen banana pieces I've been eating lately (with a little too much abandon!), but this is good-- it's time and I'm as ready and committed as I ever will be. I pla

Hi Ron, Here's a really simple but great sauce/spread you can make in a lot of different ways: The base is sundried tomatoes. Just soak a handful for 1-2 hours in hot water, then blend with water, spices or condiments for about 30 seconds. I like to add basil, and sometimes I puta few drops of Thai peanut sauce or smoked sesame oil in it (not raw, but miniscule amounts & powerfully yumm

Hi Moshe, Thanks for the inspiration. I've heard that there's a huge convocation of qigong practitioners at the Boston Common every Saturday-- gotta go sometime and check it out. I'm also blessed with a Chinese tai chi master and a Chinese qigong master who both live in my apartment building; the tai chi master lives on my floor and is a wonderful friend. They are elderly but radiate health, jo

I live in New England and I love fruit and vegetables about equally-- well, maybe I like fruit a little more. :-) But I try to have greens once a day (in a smoothie) and vegetables or vegetable-fruits once a day (evening salad), and the rest of the time I eat fruit and a small amount of nuts or seeds-- seems to be working.

Hi Taylor! Listen, you're gonna LOVE qigong. It's like tai chi, escept it just uses the upper body, so your husband doesn't have to put any stress on his hip. (You stand with your knees slightly bent, feet shoulder-width apart.) I know of a couple wonderful free online videos that you can follow along-- it's quite easy and it really rejuvenates and strengthens you. I try to do one or the othe

Wow, guys, I'm really excited about all these new ideas for what to eat on my summer camping trips-- thanks! I camp out 2 wks in July and 2 wks in August on an island with my husband, and we usually take lots of nuts (raw ones for me, roasted for him), some Lara bars, dried apricots, raisins. . . dehydrated parsley and nettles + dried tomatoes + onion + avo for a daily salad (add water, lem

I've been noticing a lot of positive changes since I started doing qigong and I'm convinced it's a perfect complement to the raw lifestyle and quest for longevity. When you look back through histories, it's the Taoists who seemed to master the art of living a long, healthy, fruitful life. Anyone else here into qigong?
