Hey all, Well, we're getting everything set for me to go to Mirasol. Getting all the blood tests and crap done, etc., etc. Gonna try to be in there by the end of the month. Meanwhile, I'm having my good moments and my bad ones. I find I'm much more comfortable being "normal" with food when I'm around other people. When I'm alone, I think way too much and when I think about food al

BEST. ICE CREAM. EVER: just take frozen bananas and puree them in a blender/food processor. That's it! Depending on the strength of your machine, you don't even need to freeze it! Just blend and serve, baby.

I just made one for the first time for a potluck last Sunday! I kinda used a recipe, kinda didn't, but it was AMAZING! I made tomato sauce from the Boutenko's "Eating Without Heating" and a sunflower seed "cheese" of my own creation (2 C sun seeds, juice of a lemon, 1 tsp. salt, 1 clove garlic, a ton of fresh basil and oregano, and water as needed; soak seeds, drain, and blend

IMO, the most grounding foods you can eat are greens. The darker the better! Sea veggies are good too.

Rawdancer, I know that I tend to use my ED as a crutch, an excuse to not take on certain challenges. Is it possible that this is what you're doing? Despite the obvious difficulties you're having right now, it sounds like you're wallowing in them somewhat, wanting someone to just take over and make it all better. And believe me, I do it myself so I am in no way jumping on a high horse here. I enco

Haha bracken, I do the SAME THING with bowel movements!!! TMI, but I usually go within 15 mins of waking up in the morning, and if I don't I just feel GROSS for the rest of the day. Having major anxiety problems, I find that I've been getting stopped up recently, which only excacerbates the situation! However, I find that sipping hot water upon waking helps calm things down so I can go. Anyway, I

I've been thinking more and more seriously about going to Mirasol (ED treatment facility in Arizona). One event that really gave a kick in the ass was my 15-year-old friend being forced into treatment at the local Children's Hospital and running away. Her mom called me and said they couldn't find her, she just took off. They did find her the same day, but it still made me think about how much tim

Just blend any type of fresh, ripe fruit with your choice of greens - about 1 part greens to 3 parts fruit to begin with - and some hemp protein powder or hemp seeds, plus water as desired. Spirulina if you like. Simple, tasty, healthy! Some ideas: banana/peach/kale; banana/strawberry/spinach; mango/parsley; pear/mint/kale; orange/pineapple/banana/cilantro...the possibilities are endless! Also,

Oh no, Jodi! My heart goes out to you. It's really awesome, though, that you can look ahead with hope for the next day. We're here for you! I've been kind of down in the dumps today too. It's to the point now where everyone is very concerned about me health-wise. I'm very thin right now and still losing weight; my parents are ready to ship me off somewhere for treatment. But I don't want to le

I just had my first G.T.'s kombucha (first kombucha ever, actually), yesterday. I had the Mega Greens one - LOVE IT!!! I am obsessed. Next time I go across the border I'm gonna stock up! (Haven't seen it in Canada, at least not anywhere local.)

I can definitely relate to the loneliness. I live by myself, and have never really had a romantic relationship...I just feel SO ALONE. I have friends but they're always busy, and my relationship with my parents is good, but they're my parents, not friends. Despite never having experienced it, I feel like nothing can replace sharing your life with someone you love, you know? So yeah, the more lone

Ugh, meal replacement drinks...*gags, hacks, goes green in the face.* God, I remember one particular meal in the hospital - the rule was that if you only ate half of your meal you had to replace the calories in it with Boost - it was curried chickpeas and I HATE curry with a passion. The meal equated somehow to 1.5 cans of Boost Plus, so here I was already stuffed to the brim, now having to drink

I've been having a similar reaction to food in the last couple of months. I don't gag, but my breathing changes, becomes higher in my chest due to my anxiety, and I get bloated. I KNOW the bloating is not due to what I'm eating because I can feel a difference between physical and anxiety bloating. It happens when I eat something I think I didn't feel like eating (wasn't craving) but eat it anyway

Thanks Jodi. Quick post because I have to go to work, but I find I have to re-motivate myself every single day to try and eat more. I am addicted to the feeling of hunger - fullness (being satisfied after eating, not stuffed) makes me feel incredibly anxious. Many theories as to why, but I will save that for when I have more time to explain. I know I need to eat more, to gain weight, but a huge p

Yes, it does pass. I find that I am usually satisfied on just fruits and veggies now, whereas before I felt like I needed a piece of bread or some raw crackers or something with my salads. I also find that my hunger varies more widely than before; some days I won't be that hungry, and other days I'll be ravenous every couple of hours (like today!). Go with your gut.

Sorry to jump in here with a random question, but are all of you here trying to lose weight? It seems like nobody eats very much here...I'm trying to gain weight, and despite eating more than anyone here, I am still losing! I don't ask out of judgement; I'm just curious.

I am currently working at Whole Foods; been there for about four months. I've become a somewhat bitter and jaded since my initial excitement, but I think that's the nature of 1) being a cashier, and 2) any job (every job eventually becomes redundant). I never had to do any personality tests for Whole Foods, but I've done them for other positions and yes, they do suck. I feel your pain. What I

A friend and I used to cut raw carrots up into coins and top them with grated marble cheese to make little "sandwiches." I totally forget where we got the idea to do that, but it was really really good! Salty and sweet. I used to do the squished-bread thing too! That was when I was little; later on, I would take a whole slice of bread, nibble off the crust, then mash cottage cheese o

Sprouts are a great option. Just bring whatever sprouting seeds you desire, along with a mason jar or two, and simply soak, rinse, and sprout them wherever you are. I've even heard of backpackers just dangling the jars off of their backpacks as they travel. TONS of nutrition, little effort, and even less cost!

Question for all of you on this thread: what about raw foods appealed to you? Obviously when you're sick with an ED, raw could seem like a great way to restrict calories, an "excuse" to eliminate certain foods, etc., but it seems like everyone who's spoken up on this subject so far has been genuinely interested in the healthy side of raw. Personally, being a highly sensitive person, raw

Jgunn, nicely put, all of it! Too many people focus on the food part of EDs - and of the raw lifestyle in general - when really it's just like a cold or flu: the illness presents itself as symptoms, and too many people try to treat those rather than the underlying cause(s). Tylenol takes away the headache just as a different diet can ease the ED impulses, but it's only a temporary and surface sol

I am so grateful for this thread already. I am relapsing pretty severely, and my parents want me to go into treatment, which I am resisting for several reasons; one being that I know that raw foods make me feel so much better than the @#$%& they stuff you with in treatment, and if I'm gonna eat more than I'm comfortable with (to gain weight) I want to do it eating food that doesn't make me feel e

No, I haven't used it...yet. It kinda freaks me out, though I admit I'm completely ignorant about it. I also bugs me that it's not organic. However, some of my coworkers swear by the stuff so I've heard about its different uses from them. Me, I like my flax .

What about putting it in a smoothie? I think anything you do with flax, you can do with Salba. Maybe try making crackers with it?
