Here's what I had for dinner tonight: Bowlful of kale (cut ribs out, then slice leaves in strips on a diagonal) Chopped grape tomatoes Chopped avocado (enough to make the salad creamy - I used half of one) Hemp seeds Lemon juice Cayenne pepper A smidgen of salt Nutritional yeast, if you use it Just mix and mash it all together until it's wilty and the avocado is creamed, leaving a fe

Hey earthangel! I turned 22 in January...almost the same time as you! I live in Vancouver, BC. I started transitioning to raw about a year ago, and it's been slow and steady since then - sometimes more raw, sometimes less (right now I eat Manna bread and sunflower seed butter because the bread makes me feel good and I'm allergic to nuts and sesame and can't find raw sun seed butter). I don't k

Okay, so I'm not quite a teen (I'm 22) but I sure don't feel any older than 18 in some ways! I used to be on the raw teen forum and was also disappointed with the lack of activity on there. Nice to know there are some others around my age on here.

bluebelle, I had exactly the same problems. I was severely anorexic and also had really bad bloating, fatigue, etc. when I was going through refeeding (even more so afterwards, when I was at a healthy weight). I eventually discovered I had a ton of food sensitivities which were mostly to blame. Your body (and head) will obviously try to rebel against feeding it certain foods, or certain amounts o

Personally, I CRAVE lacinato (a.k.a. dragon, or dark green) kale. I put it in every salad and smoothie I make. The darker the greens, the more nutrient-rich they are. I love greens, but I've heard of others who feel sick when they eat them, so just listen to your body.

Yeah, I'd like to knnow this too. I'm in Vancouver, Canada. The grocery store I used to work at said they get it about once a year - at upwards of $100 per fruit!!! Yikes! Screw that.

159. Bragg's
What IS Bragg's made of, really? It says it's made out of soybeans and water and that's it, and maybe I'm ignorant but in my opinion there's no way those two ingredients could make something so salty-tasting. Is there? And is it raw? I'm really skeptical about this stuff.

160. Re: SOS!
I agree on the missing nutrients thing; but on the other hand, I know that when some people begin getting proper nutrition their hair falls out more than usual. Without knowing how long you've been raw for, that's my theory. This would also explain why it happened for a short time when you went vegan (assuming your vegan diet was healthier than whatever you were eating prior to that).

For those of you who, like me, are sensitive to bananas, do you find you get the same reaction from plantains?

Sapphire - I agree with sachelle in that I don't think it's possible to completely prevent an eating disorder from developing. However, in my opinion, the best possible preventative measure you can take as a parent is to sort out your own issues with food and weight as best as you can. Kids pick up on their parents' unresolved issues and quite often take them on and carry them out. I have the mos

I'd like to thank you too, ela, for sharing. I was also in a near-death state at one point, though I got "healthy" again being force-fed hospital food - and they wonder why it freaks patients out having to gain weight! Feels terrible on that kind of so-called nourishment. But I suppose calories are calories when you're that close to death. Anyway, I just wanted to say that you're a r

For those of you who have/had eating disorders, do/did you find that raw helped your recovery or hindered it? I considered myself to be "in recovery," going on 5 years, but then I started eating raw and now I'm relapsing. I transitioned into raw very gradually too, and was vegan before that (that shift, I know for sure, came from a healthy side of me, not the ED'd part). Just curious.

Okay, does anyone else get TOTALLY annoyed when you're drinking a green smoothie and someone asks, "what IS that?!" I'm all for educating people, but for some reason I HATE being questioned about my food. I'm always tempted to make a snotty remark such as "It's REAL food, unlike what you're eating," or "It's this revolutionary new product called FRESH FOOD...try it someti

That's incredible, sgc! I've been finding my hunger decreasing as well, and I am quite active. Problem is, I'm losing weight. I'm too thin as it is! It seems that whenever I "listen" to my body and start feeling cleaner inside, I end up losing weight. I'm confused!

Wow, looks like I opened up a can of worms! Thanks to everyone for your input. I was just pondering the question after briefly checking out "Sunfood" at the natural foods store. I personally believe %100 in listening to one's own body to find what works best for them, but I often find that I need a little guidance and/or other opinions/info to test against my own...kind of like physical

Why is it not considered "proper food combining" to mix fruit and fat? How big of a deal is it if you do mix them? My meals usually consist of salad with avocado and seeds, some fruit for, dessert, and often I'll have a date or two as well; that's just how my cravings progress during a meal. Also, for those of you who do practice proper food combining, have you noticed a big differen

You have NO idea how excited I am to find someone else with this problem! I have EXTREMELY dry, chapped, and bleeding hands year-round, and I felt like a total freak of nature. However, I've found that raw has made it worse! I've tried the lotion, the gloves, I use natural soaps, I eat avos and seed butters and flax and oils...they just keep getting worse. Nothing has made a lasting difference. M
