Yes there are people selling fresh durian in San Diego, we can find it at Whole Foods in La Jolla, but at $24 a pound, kind of pricey, too much for me. I prefer my $3 a pound cherimoyas from the farmers market.

Maybe this is the link you are looking for I know Shannon, I met him on the farmers market in San Diego. Due to his work, he couldn't stay raw, gained weight and so on. But is now back on track and more motivated than ever. He is on a 40 days OJ fast, and doing great. He is a really nice guy, with a great experience in the peace corps and with MSF in Africa, Afghanistan and so.

VeganLife, I don't see why I should take a multi supplement. I feel great this way, ride my bike faster than when I was in high school, run longer with no pain and not being tired the next day...

Hi I wanted to share with you what I have experienced lately. I've been eating fruits and greens for over a year now, n osupplements whatsoever, and I was always eating one or two avocados with my salad every evening, every day. Lately, I felt less and less the desire of avocados, and even didn't feel very well after eating one. So I now eat one a week, and mostly fruits during the day. Now,

From rawfoodexplainded linked by Bryan: "Of course we know the names of these substances in onions and garlic. They are allicin, a poison on the same order as digitalis (an extract from foxglove) and mustard oil, a highly volatile oil that goes through cell membranes and gets into the cells with great ease. The body cannot digest either of these poisons nor make use of them." So if ga

Keep some yellow ones to put with the green ones, it fasten the ripening since the yellow ones are releases more ripening gas than the green ones. Suvine, I just got $60 worth of cherimoyas at the farmers market this weekend, at $3/lb. Got to know your farmer ;-)

I never eat garlic, but when my wife does (she likes gourmet raw, I don't, I prefer just fruits), then she gets moody and lunatic. And overall, it doesn't smell very nice in the bedroom at night... That's a love killer for me, sorry

I'm not talking about GMOs. Different subject I'm talking about natural versus man made veggie hybrid. People keep talking about fruits, but nobody talks about hybridization for veggies. Why?

130. Hybrids
Hi Guys I'd like to get the opinions of other people regarding hybrids, but not fruits, I want to talk about veggies hybrids. A lot of people think hybrid fruits are bad. But what about hybrid veggies? Isn't their mineral and nutrient balance messed up for a sweeter taste, like sweet corn, or some of the new spinach varieties? What do you think?

To anybody living in the San Diego area, check the Ranch 99 Market, they have fresh durian right now for 4.50 a pound. Whole fresh Durian! First time I saw that in California, and it's way better than the frozen stuff, taste and texture. Cheers

I do mostly mono, and mostly fruits. My experience is that by mixing, I will tend to overeat. But mono, I feel full easier, and I feel better overall. It helps in keeping the grocery bill down ;-)

Balta is a good friend of mine. He lives in Ojen now, in a finca called La Cascada. We are two raw foodists who are going to move to spain in March. We have just bought two properties (fincas), in a valley, 40 minutes north of Estepona. We were doing research in physics in San Diego, but we decided to change and move back to Europe, to some place where we can grow all our food. We would be happy

Happy new year to all My wife and I have been spending christmas and new year in Mexico: Mexico city, Oaxaca, Tuxtepec, Veracruz... Mexico is a great place for fruitarians. With all the markets around, you can always find fresh fruits. And you have smoothies bars in the city, juices, all freshly made in front of you, and also fruit sellers in the street. We've been eating fruits all week: cher

My wife is from Paris, and every now and then we go back. It's always quite easy to find food there, fresh fruits are all over in every small stores, even the 24-7 ones that the arabic run everywhere. And there are now several organic stores in the city. And if you are looking for asian delights (durian and a lot of other exotic fruits), go to Tang Freres. It's a big chinese supermarket in south

I guess it all depends on what "kind" of raw you are. For me, mostly fruits with some greens, it was actually pretty easy to find some food, fresh and local. Even if I was excpecting more tropical delights, I'm just picky. But if you look for gourmet kind of raw, it might be more difficult than in NYC ;-)

I just got back to San Diego, and my experience in Hawaii was wonderful. As soon as I could get out of waikiki though... The landscapes, biodiversity, fauna and flora, were so different, that was great. I just found sad that they keep importing so many stuff from mainland foodwise, while they can grow pretty much everything year round, as I could see around.

This morning I went to the farmers market at the kapi'olani community college, and everybody told me that was the best one in honolulu. For me it was a big disappointment. There were just a few farmers selling some greens, nad only one or two organic. Nobody was selling tropical fruits besides papayas and bananas, not organic, and dole pineapples... And all the other vendors were selling cooked f

Rawrr, there is latex in the mango skin, and you might be allergic to latex. To eat a mango, I take it vertical, and peel the top part first half way. Then eat the opened part to the pit, turn it around and hold it by the pit, Then I finish the peeling and eat it around the pit.

Even for winter I m pretty happy with the fruits I can find around so far. Today, I got more mangos from some guys in the street, and some star fruits. I also found mangosteen and atemoyas in a store. While on a walk, I came across a noni tree with a ripe noni on it. At least it looked ripe. It was soft except on the very top of the fruit. But when I tried it, the hard part was not edible, and

Most fruits at chinatown are 2.99 a pound, and jackfruit are 3.99. But the best store is were I went this afternoon: in the street. I just talk to a guy in the street while taking pictures of hawaiian cherries, and he indicated me a neighborhood with a lot of very big mango trees. So I went there, and it was great, I talked to a few locals, and got about 10 tree ripe mangos! I also picked a coup

I'm just coming back from chinatown, and I found some stuff there: jackfruit, soursop, sapodilla, ramboutan, logan and mangos, all local. I also checked a farmers market this morning, but it was really small, and nothing appealing. I might try some of the ones tomorrow, but I'm pretty stocked right now... First time I taste jackfruit. Pretty fun, it reminds me some bubble gum, both texture and

Thanks, I've been there just after I arrived, and again today. Very nice people, but their fruit selection is rather limited. Kind of sad for Hawaii I would say.
