Hi amooba, Organic firm tofu is just boiled soy beans squeezed through muslin bag (to make soy milk), then the soy milk is boiled back up again with either nigari or calcium sulfate to make it go firm. Think of it as clotted over-boiled soy beans :-) If you wanted to keep soy as a small part of a primarily raw diet, you'd probably be better off just eating soy beans as the double boiling

Does anyone here eat flowers, and if so, which ones? Is there a list of flowers that are edible? Nutritional content? Also, is it considered fruitarian to eat flowers? Thanks!

Most of the aloe vera juices I have seen have sodium benzoate (E211) added. Not good for people with food sensitivities.

It's like a banana, with wings and six legs. Just kidding :-) Have you considered using a sprouting (glass) jar with the hard screw-on lid with the tiny holes in it? They seem pretty tough, IMO.

Thanks for the replies :-) That Vegan Outreach article was good (read it quickly, will go through it properly again later). Can I ask a (possibly stupid!) question? Aside from the B12 in the red clover sprouts (which I'm thinking is more an error/misprint), it makes you wonder WHY (from a natural perspective) we can have foods such as spirulina- which are very nutritious- have a screw-up wh

Thanks for the replies guys! Glad to see my taste buds haven't just gone barmy! :-) I might get some again, just in case the first ones I had weren't a one-off! I really like how they look. Kind of like some kind of alien vegetable

My mattress is fairly hard. The cats enjoy it too, which is a good sign :-) Once I slept on the landing (carpet on floorboards, 1st floor) to keep my cat company. I had the worse back ache ever when I got up. Like someone had shot me! But laying on uneven, grassy ground outside is very comfortable :-)

I have an A. Vogel pamphlet at home that came with a sprouter-thing of mine. Under red clover, it says it has B12. I think this might have been the only (or one of the very few) sprout listed with B12. I really didn't think any sprouts had B12? I can't see why they would. It's an old pamphlet (4-5 years old, at least, I think), and the information isn't repeated on their web site or anywher

Sprouts are so easy! You wash them, put them in a jar. Rinse them in the morning. Rinse them at night. Then in a few days, you have lots of home grown food. It's so cheap, easy and healthy! Sprouting equipment can range from cheap to expensive, but you could do it with just a jar if you had to. :-)

I tried these for the first time today. They're notorious for their bitter taste (hence the name). Once I sliced them open (I had 3, they're quite small) it just seemed like a cavity with a tiny amount of pith-like flesh and lots of large seeds. Didn't taste even remotely bitter! Did I have a bad one, or are my taste buds shot? LOL

Simple Living Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > My mouth just felt > like I ate dirt all I wanted was water. When using cacao with avocado or making smoothies, I think it's not so bad (esp. if agave is added and there's lots of liquid). But I've found the store-bought raw chocolate bars/energy bars definitely have that dehydrating dirt taste!

I have used my oven before, and it's very hard to control the temperature. Even with the door ajar & the oven on the lowest temp, I kept getting the nagging feeling that the food was being cooked. Also, I disliked the idea that I was wasting enormous amounts of electricity! There's instructions for a DIY dehydrator here :

I initially laughed out loud when I heard about this. If that drink is 'raw', is the regular brand Pepsi Toxic Swamp? I'm kind of glad that they're doing this though. I'd much rather someone drank this type than diet pepsi etc. When I used to drink cola-type drinks, I would always drink an organic-version of cola if I could find a health food shop, but in general, I'd end up drinking a

LOL, nothing yummier than a big tasty jelly-like mango! :-) I have a book called Foods That Heal, and although it doesn't say the the skin shouldn't be eaten, it does say this: "since mango peels may be irritating to the skin, you may want to wear rubber gloves when peeling, especially if you will be peeling several mangoes at the same time" If the skin is a known irritant, may

I have Rawvolution (Matt Amsden). It's a really beautiful book with colourful photos for each recipe BUT a lot of the main course recipes are based around a raw onion bread (the onion bread recipe is in there, but what if you didn't want onion bread every other day?). In hindsight, I'd wish I'd spent the money on a book more about the science etc behind raw health, as a website like www.gonera

I made a recipe of thinly sliced courgette and eggplant, marinated/topped with a sauce made of blended tomato, olive oil, sundried tomatoes, fresh herbs, dried herbs, onion and garlic and a tiny bit of salt. It was quite nice, but at the time I was going off that sort of thing so didn't enjoy it as much as I might have done a few months ago.

hi brenna :-) Were the chicken tacos takeaway or home made? If they were home made and you think you'll slip up regularly, maybe it's worth having some organic tofu or quinoa mince in the fridge/freezer so if you absolutely have to have that taco, at least you're eating a healthier alternative. It might be easier to wean off of the meat that way. Also, could try and swap the tacos for whole

I'm London based :-) There's a shop in St Ives (Cornwall) called Living Foods of St Ives. It's still quite far from you, but maybe mailorder would reach you pretty quick :-) They do cacao and super foods, sprouting kits and things. I haven't personally shopped with them, but family members have and have had good experiences :-)

Hi veganforlife. I've been slipping in and out of raw for a few years now (also an ethical vegan gone raw). My goal is to be 100% raw, but so far, having that kind of goal is proving to be unhealthy for me. I can't afford to buy the range of raw fruit, greens etc that it would take to meet my nutritional needs, so end up overeating fats to fill me up. There have been countless times where I h
